For those looking at the m1922 Hotchkiss kits and put off by welding, this welder will be good enough. It's electric and doesn't require gas. Will be a little messy, but if going poor fag and no skillz, this will work. I've rebuilt and converted mg42 using this.
>Kit $350
>Repair sections $400
>Semi firing pin $20
>Dremel with cutting disks $100
>Metal Files $20
>MAPP torch and oil to heat treat $50
>Welder $200
>Welding safety gear $100 to $200
>Roughly $1400 to do a lot of no experience
>Get the kit, firing pin, and repair sections if on tight budget
>Get the kit first if absolutely poor fagging it, then the repair section and firing pin, get tools as you go over a year.
This is legit going to be an easy build. You will use the front receiver stub and the feed cover to measure how long the repair sections need to be and then spot weld it slowly. It will be legit hard to fuck up this easy measure and weld. Even with low or no skills. Instead of collecting 10 mosins like 10 years ago, can have the next surplus be a rebuilt Hotchkiss and build party on /msg/ to help out other /k/ommandos wanting to repair a surp
>>
>>64598118
I remember you, you were that kid who bought a clapped out Israeli Mauser, got mad at everyone for pointing it out, then sperged out and bought like 10 milsurps in 2 weeks
>>
>>64598574
The trigger pack/lower, along with the front receiver stub , and top cover will be holding the repair sections in place acting like a welding jig. Won't need a vice or any fancy reweld jigs and frames. The front receiver section with quick change barrel is already doing most of the head spacing work and just require a check after rewelding. You can poor fag that with a spent casing and painters tape.

Will recommend gauges though if you start looking at rebuilding more kits in the same caliber (8mm mauser - Yugo M76, MG42, and whatever else comes in the future with barrels) or even if get into more 8mm surps. I've used my gauges plenty when I get bad juju from a boomer and they see me bust out the gauges to check headspace and they panic because they know their surplus is going to fail headspace and they were knowingly trying to offload a kaboom piece.

It was probably like 7 years ago at this point. I remember because I'd never seen anyone here get so unironically angry, and he fought so fucking hard against everyone who corrected him or explain his mistake. Then he got obsessive with the idea of trading up, like the thing where you start with a paperclip and end up with a house.
Finally about two weeks later, he had a shit load of milsurp he knew absolutely nothing about.
I'm assuming he's grown as a person since then, hopefully

I'll post a step-by-step. I'll try to make a video of one of the build for odysee as my thanks back to /k/ for the /k/ommando that did the M53 video. It only has four main welds. One each side and two on top back half.

I'll try to go simple as possible and explanation for it with pictures. Gonna try for video for those that need more than pictures for visualization and understanding. /K/ already knows my voice and my dainty pastey hands so really don't care for build video. You'd be insane to use a flux core welder for anything important.
>>
>>64601914
oh yeah of course. Wouldn't use it on anything requiring thick welds. There's nothing for the reweld parts that are thick or huge gaps on the m1922. If trying to reweld a FAL or a ZB30 on a flux core welder would be absolute retard level since entire receivers on those are pressure bearing

The Hotchkiss? Good or very good kit. Depends on your budget. If able get a good and an extra top cover and feed tray while those are still available and cheap. The feed tray and top cover extras I got were in better condition than what my good kits had. Somebody is working on a belt conversion. You'll be able to do a clipazine and belt hopefully. I'm assuming the feed tray and top cover will need to be modified to run a belt and I kind of want to run a clipazine as I yell Hon, Hon, Hon.

>>64610205
That “lead” round nose is probably not lead but hard-cast alloy. But You’ll know for sure if you fire repeatedly and lose your accuracy dramatically and quickly from fouling, this would be pure lead; in which case you can just scrub it out with solvent and your designated jacking hand. A barrel obstruction in an old top-break is not a winning combination. But, again, it’s 95% likely to be hard-cast.

>>

eehhhh not quite the take I got from his post but youre not totally wrong.

There is a subset of surp collectors that are allergic to shooting their surp, usually because of a perceived (boomer lore) damage modern ammo can have. To be 100% fair, there are examples of this. But a quick read and non retarded levels of research allows one to find the right loading or ammo where this applies.
On that note as well, people are retarded and dont read or do research, so the cycle repeats.

For a gun soaked in cosmoline, yes. For a rifle that has had its wood repeatedly dunked in motor oil and is so incredibly soaked with it that even repeated dunks in acetone and cleaning sessions only temporarily make the wood a couple of shades lighter until it inevitably comes to the surface again, absolutely not. Blame India.

I mean..snow on the ground is probably the best time to cross that of the “not the smartest ideas” list. I’ve never tried petroleum products on wood. Lemme know what happens if you nut up enough to try. I’m dumb enough to pour gasoline in a pvc pipe on a hot dry day I just always thought it would damage the wood’s structural integrity.

I've tried this in the Florida summer on my mosin & mauser stocks with zero luck. Gently using a heat gun and continuously wiping it off worked much better.
With metal parts I just scrape the majority off with a heat gun and rag, throw them in the wheelbarrow, and pour pots of boiling water on them and scrub with an old dish brush.

The more nausea and dizziness, the more something works. I’m stripping paint rn and I’m down to the good layer I actually used primer on, which is even giving and acetone and ethyl/ether-based grease scrubber a slow time.
And gas is $2.01 rn.

>I’m dumb enough to pour gasoline in a pvc pipe on a hot dry day I just always thought it would damage the wood’s structural integrity.
That's my concern as well. I know kerosene can be used to pull water out of metal parts (cracks and gaps, etc) but whether it plays nicely with wood, I don't know. Kinda risky as my stock is a London Small Arms, as is the gun (strangely common in 410 IMs despite being a rare maker). Not sure for the forestock but IIRC any used replacements are like $60-80+ IIRC so not a cheap replacement on a ~$70 rifle. Maybe I'll grab some offcuts of the walnut I used to replicate the missing parts and see what a little kerosene does to those scraps. I figure if kerosene is supposed to be low vapor and smudge pots can use a fucking ~2 gallon bowl full of kerosene on fire with little more than a ventilated chimney on top to regulate the burning and bring in fresh air, it can't be too bad, maybe even nicer than acetone. Whether it flashes off in reasonable amounts of time and doesn't just become another oily substance in the wood (turpentine, IIRC), now that's the real question. I don't work with kerosene enough to know. Gasoline, I know that's pretty volatile and bad with vapors. Don't want to try gas, but even it is relatively cheap compared to acetone being $20 a fucking gallon.

I'm also concerned with swelling the wood and losing the fitment and markings. And I could use whiting but I don't like to use acids and bases if I can help it. Then I have to worry about screwing the PH and leaving residue and etc etc.

>>64613245
>The more nausea and dizziness, the more something works.

i shoot my s&w 686 with round head lead .38 for competitions.
the lead residue makes the bore diameter smaller over time, when i clean the lead out it affects the accuracy:
clean bore = big diameter = shit groups
after 1 x 250 box of s&b lead round nose .38 = good groups for like 750 rounds/3 boxes, then
i have to clean again because groups = shit when the bore is to tight from lead residue. a never ending circle of lead poisoning.

my welbley mkiv only produces good groups with fiocchi .38 s&w, which has very soft lead. an armorer told me the welbley needs aenemic loads and therefore only really soft lead is properly slugged thru the bore. never cleaned it tho. groups are good but i dont shoot it too often.

modern 8mm in commission rifles
modern 7.5 in 1889 Schmidt Rubens. But thats cause modern loads are GP11 spec vs GP90

No modern ammo is straight up dangerous or imminent explosion every time. A gun in good condition will have tolerances for higher pressures +/- whatever gas mitigation it may have. While not wise, and certainly not good over time its not an immediate threat to life if the gun is at least in good shape. That immediate danger perception is the crux of the issue with people. Folks just gotta read more than a boomer post of some fudd who blew his head off cause he loaded Unique in a shaved rim 30-40 in a Lee Navy and therefore somehow connect that all Lee Navys are dangerous.

I just bought an Astra Ruby yesterday, and after shooting it today and getting some feeding issues, I decided to take it apart. I remove the barrel, and everything online I'm seeing says that the slide should follow relatively easily, but mine just isn't. It's not really moving forward at all, and I don't know what's going on. The safety came out at one point, but I was able to get it back in, and it feels secure. Did someone sell me a broken gun, or is this user error?

>>
>>64636736
your gun is stuck on the protruding striker. you need to remove the grips, drive out the cross pin holding in the mainspring - the spring will be under tension and there should be a metal shim in there that will get launched into space if you properly cover the base when you remove the pin. once the mainspring is removed you can get the slide off.

usually feed issues with rubys are mag related, but without working on the gun myself I couldnt tell you whats wrong with it.

I bought: an East German Makarov, a Spanish Civil War attributed 91/30, a Finn captured M91/30 from 1941, which apparently isn't a common date for those, another Russian Capture K98k, and a 1918 Steyr-Hahn with post-war Czech issue stamps on it. I plan to pick up a 9x19 barrel for it if they're even still made. I also bought a bunch of German WW2 document groups because I primarily collect and research those, and some Austro-Hungarian WW1 medals.
I sold: my Bulgarian Makarov, one of my two M1 Garands, 1943 Izzie 91/30, one of my two Steyr M95 carbines, a shit ton of random WW2 U.S. and Commonwealth militaria/gear that was taking up bin space.

Not gonna spam a bunch of pics, so here's a final collage of my cleaned up display Turkish M1922 Hotchkiss.
As promised, the receiver says "Yes Homo" (اوت لوطي) in Ottoman Turkic and the serial is the trips that won.
Worst part was I had to dremel down a nail to make a replacement pin for the top cover. The pin that came with the kit was completely mangled and wouldn't fit at all. Otherwise, it was a fun project. 10/10 would recommend.

Merry Christmas /msg/!

I’ve bid on 6 guns this year, and only on December 22nd did I actually win something. I bought 1800rds of Greek .303 so that’s something.

It looks really good. Merry Christmas Anon!

That’s awesome. Merry Christmas anon. Does it operate in any way?

Actually looks pretty smart. I’d keep it like that and get the cleaning tip. Year?

Why not cut down the barrel to the length of a 38?

So here’s where I’m at fellas. I’m wanting an old beater rifle (hence why I’m actually thinking about RTI); but I’m thinking about buying either an old 6.5 Carcano from RTI for like $350, or either getting a sporterized Arisaka for $400.
What do? I really don’t think I want a NICE rifle. Just an old rough beater. What do you think?

I feel like it just looks kind of awkward as it is, I’d rather look for the correct furniture and keep the M38 furniture if I ever need it in the future. This one was made in 1915.
>>64678776
I’ve thought about it but I’m only lukewarm to the idea.

Merry Christmas /msg/.

That looks pretty damn good, nice work anon!

they fit berthiers…
>>
>>64678825
as a beater? both are fine with 6.5 being better to find than 7.7 jap

Federal, some batches of Remington UMC, Sig Sauer, Speer. Federal is even used in picrel. This is an irrelevant, time wasting line of inquiry.
>7 tons is only 15% more
nobody proofs anything in long tons anymore. Everyone goes by CIP or SAAMI specs, and this is the key issue for anyone with a shaved webley not shooting deliberately underpressured hand or factory .45 loads.
>>
>>64679434
fuck me, almost forgot to add, 21,000psi (SAAMI spec) is roughly 9.375 Tons, and is approximately 56.5% higher than 6 Tons.

Thanks! I can hold the trigger and pull the bolt back manually and the feed strip will move like it's supposed to. But I took out the firing pin and put in a denial just to be safe/legal, so it can't actually feed anything.
>>
>>64679310
>both are fine
Based. Idk why, but 6.5 Carcano just looks fun.
>>
>>64678825
Don't be a foolie don't buy from Uli. If you want a beater just go ahead buy one from Cabela's, give them the money instead of that pretend polack jackass.
>>
>>64679533
I don’t like the carbines though. I like the full stocks.
>>
>>64664591
>CETMETON
THEY KEEP USING THAT GARBAGE FOR PARADES AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>
I'm interested in getting one of those CMP Navy Mk2 Mod 1 Garands, the ones in 308. Anything I should know before buying? I know the Mod 0s with the throat adapters are not really safe to shoot unless you are checking every spent case.

Turkish mauser.
Cheaper 8mm surplus is super common to find over the other two.
>>
>>64679650
>I don’t like the carbines though. I like the full stocks.
Cabelas usually has wide array of Milsurp/sporters just go check. But hey if you want to give money to that jewish retard, be my guest. Note you're going to be made fun of when goat piss soaked sewer pipe shows up, because you bought from Uli.
>>
>>64647810
Only problem is the ammo (both 7.7 and 6.5) is ungodly expensive, reloading does help minimize cost but still expect it to drain your wallet
>>64664529
Just buy it off j&g , only like 15 dollars more for a good quality Carcano, RTI is a meme company
>>
>>64679912
J&G is also a meme company.
>>
>>64679912
>ungodly expensive
theyre relatively tame compared to other common-ish surp calibers. 7.7 being more expansive than 6.5 though. As the anon above suggested, a clapped out turk mauser is a not a bad suggestion for the even cheap 8mm mauser.
>>
>>64679930
The Carcanos are the only good deals, I'm not paying 800 for a regular Mosin don't worry I'm retarted but not that retarted
>>
>>64679732
Are those the ones built from reclaimed receivers? I'm cautious about the reclaimed receivers so haven't gotten one.
>>64678825
Old Mauser. Turks or Yugos for Mausers can be had for the $300-400 range and be in very good condition with 8mm mauser being common enough.
