When hunting my Israeli Mauser K98k is always within reach.
My brother's bush bashing Lee Enfield No.4 .303Brit that he uses for hunting.
For those looking at the m1922 Hotchkiss kits and put off by welding, this welder will be good enough. It's electric and doesn't require gas. Will be a little messy, but if going poor fag and no skillz, this will work. I've rebuilt and converted mg42 using this.>Kit $350>Repair sections $400>Semi firing pin $20>Dremel with cutting disks $100>Metal Files $20>MAPP torch and oil to heat treat $50>Welder $200>Welding safety gear $100 to $200>Roughly $1400 to do a lot of no experience>Get the kit, firing pin, and repair sections if on tight budget>Get the kit first if absolutely poor fagging it, then the repair section and firing pin, get tools as you go over a year. This is legit going to be an easy build. You will use the front receiver stub and the feed cover to measure how long the repair sections need to be and then spot weld it slowly. It will be legit hard to fuck up this easy measure and weld. Even with low or no skills. Instead of collecting 10 mosins like 10 years ago, can have the next surplus be a rebuilt Hotchkiss and build party on /msg/ to help out other /k/ommandos wanting to repair a surp
>>64598118I remember you, you were that kid who bought a clapped out Israeli Mauser, got mad at everyone for pointing it out, then sperged out and bought like 10 milsurps in 2 weeks
>>64598574The trigger pack/lower, along with the front receiver stub , and top cover will be holding the repair sections in place acting like a welding jig. Won't need a vice or any fancy reweld jigs and frames. The front receiver section with quick change barrel is already doing most of the head spacing work and just require a check after rewelding. You can poor fag that with a spent casing and painters tape. Will recommend gauges though if you start looking at rebuilding more kits in the same caliber (8mm mauser - Yugo M76, MG42, and whatever else comes in the future with barrels) or even if get into more 8mm surps. I've used my gauges plenty when I get bad juju from a boomer and they see me bust out the gauges to check headspace and they panic because they know their surplus is going to fail headspace and they were knowingly trying to offload a kaboom piece.
>>64598603LoL big if true
>>64598608It was probably like 7 years ago at this point. I remember because I'd never seen anyone here get so unironically angry, and he fought so fucking hard against everyone who corrected him or explain his mistake. Then he got obsessive with the idea of trading up, like the thing where you start with a paperclip and end up with a house. Finally about two weeks later, he had a shit load of milsurp he knew absolutely nothing about.I'm assuming he's grown as a person since then, hopefully
>>64598574Isn't a guy gonna be selling Semi Hotchkiss receivers on the forum? I'd prefer that since my shithole state doesn't let me build guns.
>>64599484Think they will eventually or somebody will be offering build services then transfer to your FFL.
>>64598603>>64598781Im the original poster of the Israeli Mauser K98k picture and my barrel is most definitely not "clapped out". So you have the wrong anon in kind.
>>64600142Clapped out does not mean barrel. I recognized your rifle by the bolt handle. That anon (or you) did not think the bolt had been molested and we all made fun of him for it.
<<64600158Im not that guy. Many rifle bolts get some work done.
>>64599760I think I'm competent enough to handle all the fitting, but I need a serialized receiver that I get transferred from an FFL so as to not become a felon in my state.
>>64600189I know what I saw, that's the rifle, all of it. That's all I have to say about that
<<64600294You're an idiot. Maybe you should contribute an image.
>>64598574>>64598605Certainly hope you're not being overly optimistic. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. That said, I'm happy with a wall hanger while smarter people than me sort this out and work through the bugs.Should arrive tomorrow, but I won't have time to get to it until Sunday.
>closed on the property todayMilsurp themed private shooting range soon boyos.
>>64600881>I'm happy with a wall hanger while smarter people than me sort this out and work through the bugs.Yea I'm in the same boat. Gonna jump on the chance to buy a cheap kit now and keep it as a conversation piece until there's finished receivers and enough info for a brainlet like me to be able to put it together.
>>64600881>Certainly hope you're not being overly optimistic.I'll post a step-by-step. I'll try to make a video of one of the build for odysee as my thanks back to /k/ for the /k/ommando that did the M53 video. It only has four main welds. One each side and two on top back half.>If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.I'll try to go simple as possible and explanation for it with pictures. Gonna try for video for those that need more than pictures for visualization and understanding. /K/ already knows my voice and my dainty pastey hands so really don't care for build video. The build vid that dude did like 5 years ago with that M53 is legit only reason I learned and felt confident enough to do kit builds like this m1922
I bought this.
>>64601685now affix it.
>>64601696Hold on..
I need a Lebel.
>>64601715Make one.
>>64601754Checks out.
>>64601898
>>64598574You'd be insane to use a flux core welder for anything important.
>>64601914oh yeah of course. Wouldn't use it on anything requiring thick welds. There's nothing for the reweld parts that are thick or huge gaps on the m1922. If trying to reweld a FAL or a ZB30 on a flux core welder would be absolute retard level since entire receivers on those are pressure bearing
>>64601898Cant believe the French went into WW1 with one of those.
>>64602893Why? Is stronger and makes a better hole than a blade shaped bayo—which, when 400cm long, are not very good knives.
>>64598574Which parts kit should I get?
>>64604988The Hotchkiss? Good or very good kit. Depends on your budget. If able get a good and an extra top cover and feed tray while those are still available and cheap. The feed tray and top cover extras I got were in better condition than what my good kits had. Somebody is working on a belt conversion. You'll be able to do a clipazine and belt hopefully. I'm assuming the feed tray and top cover will need to be modified to run a belt and I kind of want to run a clipazine as I yell Hon, Hon, Hon.
what other parts kits have recently become available
>>64606749Waiting for stuff to come in with barrels. >Apex>Centerfire Systems>RTI>Bowman Arms>Atlantic>Sarco>NumrichAre good for kits. If anybody knows others add them up.
>>64600881What have I gotten myself into....
>>64607566You know you like the abuse of cleaning cosmoline, especially in the winter.
>>64607566Imagine the smell >>64607583Soak it in gasoline til the spring. It’ll come out drier than a martini
>>64597464Speaking of Webley-esque things, are there any differences in cleaning when shooting a LRN bullet as opposed to a normal FMJ or soft point? Like does lead get in the barrel and have to be removed any sort of different way?
>he doesn't know
>>64610205Stop being pussy just shoot it lmao It's factory ammo made for the gunWhy do so many zoomers have this attitude of "c-c-can i s-s-shoot this m-modern ammo through my a-antique c-collectible i-i'm scared the pressure/bullet type will hurt it" like lmao it's as if they believe using a gun designed will damage the future investment resale valueLol. Lmao even. Surplus is no longer about enjoying cheap surps, it's about pussies trying to preserve their "" investments""
>>64610380
>>64598231>those handsAbo detected
>>64610380>>64610416>total refusal to listen to question so they can senselessly belch something insensate and irrelevant. Who let the boomers in? Go explode one of your G43s for fun and go back to your second home. >Surplus is no longer about enjoying cheap surpsWell there’s one accidentally accurate statement. Fucking clowns>>64610205That “lead” round nose is probably not lead but hard-cast alloy. But You’ll know for sure if you fire repeatedly and lose your accuracy dramatically and quickly from fouling, this would be pure lead; in which case you can just scrub it out with solvent and your designated jacking hand. A barrel obstruction in an old top-break is not a winning combination. But, again, it’s 95% likely to be hard-cast.
<<64610425"Abo detected" ..... my brother will laugh about that. He hates Abos.
>>64610380So there's this cool new thing called reading, I highly recommend it>>64610640>probably not lead but hard-cast alloyThanks man, this is new information to me. Hopefully it's an alloy, but I'll check regularly after taking it to the range for fouling
>>64610380eehhhh not quite the take I got from his post but youre not totally wrong. There is a subset of surp collectors that are allergic to shooting their surp, usually because of a perceived (boomer lore) damage modern ammo can have. To be 100% fair, there are examples of this. But a quick read and non retarded levels of research allows one to find the right loading or ammo where this applies. On that note as well, people are retarded and dont read or do research, so the cycle repeats.
>>64611683Filename thread?
>>64597464no drill & tap, fits on the existing scope mount & just replace the rear sight spring with a bolt. Thanks Addley Precision.
>>64607598>Soak it in gasoline til the spring.Wait a minute, NTA but that gives me an idea. Has anyone ever tried to remove oil from wood with kerosene? It's a LOT cheaper per gallon than fucking acetone and a lot better when it comes to vapors.
>>64612392you whats even cheaper than that? sunlight
>>64610380>anon asks about cleaning after shooting>immediately has a temper about anon not shootingIrritability and reddit spacing are signs of lead poisoning. Get yourself checked.
>>64612420Black trash bags in summer for the win.
>>64612420For a gun soaked in cosmoline, yes. For a rifle that has had its wood repeatedly dunked in motor oil and is so incredibly soaked with it that even repeated dunks in acetone and cleaning sessions only temporarily make the wood a couple of shades lighter until it inevitably comes to the surface again, absolutely not. Blame India.
>>64612742>wood repeatedly dunked in motor oil>IndiaAnon, I don't think that shade of brown is motor oil
>>64612853Luckily for me, it's blacker than black and smells like industrial machinery.
>>64612392>wood soaked with KeroseneI mean..snow on the ground is probably the best time to cross that of the “not the smartest ideas” list. I’ve never tried petroleum products on wood. Lemme know what happens if you nut up enough to try. I’m dumb enough to pour gasoline in a pvc pipe on a hot dry day I just always thought it would damage the wood’s structural integrity.
>>64612420>>64612733I've tried this in the Florida summer on my mosin & mauser stocks with zero luck. Gently using a heat gun and continuously wiping it off worked much better. With metal parts I just scrape the majority off with a heat gun and rag, throw them in the wheelbarrow, and pour pots of boiling water on them and scrub with an old dish brush.
>>64612392>and a lot better when it comes to vaporsThe more nausea and dizziness, the more something works. I’m stripping paint rn and I’m down to the good layer I actually used primer on, which is even giving and acetone and ethyl/ether-based grease scrubber a slow time. And gas is $2.01 rn. I’m about to see what the aftermath of drowning an A2 grip in Gasoline. Gonna do that separate..
>>64613185>I’m dumb enough to pour gasoline in a pvc pipe on a hot dry day I just always thought it would damage the wood’s structural integrity. That's my concern as well. I know kerosene can be used to pull water out of metal parts (cracks and gaps, etc) but whether it plays nicely with wood, I don't know. Kinda risky as my stock is a London Small Arms, as is the gun (strangely common in 410 IMs despite being a rare maker). Not sure for the forestock but IIRC any used replacements are like $60-80+ IIRC so not a cheap replacement on a ~$70 rifle. Maybe I'll grab some offcuts of the walnut I used to replicate the missing parts and see what a little kerosene does to those scraps. I figure if kerosene is supposed to be low vapor and smudge pots can use a fucking ~2 gallon bowl full of kerosene on fire with little more than a ventilated chimney on top to regulate the burning and bring in fresh air, it can't be too bad, maybe even nicer than acetone. Whether it flashes off in reasonable amounts of time and doesn't just become another oily substance in the wood (turpentine, IIRC), now that's the real question. I don't work with kerosene enough to know. Gasoline, I know that's pretty volatile and bad with vapors. Don't want to try gas, but even it is relatively cheap compared to acetone being $20 a fucking gallon.I'm also concerned with swelling the wood and losing the fitment and markings. And I could use whiting but I don't like to use acids and bases if I can help it. Then I have to worry about screwing the PH and leaving residue and etc etc.>>64613245>The more nausea and dizziness, the more something works.Sadly true, lol. Contact cement is the best example I can think of off the top of my head. Great shit when used right.>I’m stripping paint rn [...] giving and acetone and ethyl/ether-based grease scrubber a slow time.>I’m about to [...] [drown] an A2 grip in Gasoline. Why not aerosol goof-off? That shit seems surprisingly good. Or citristrip.
>>64613202How exactly were guns cleaned of Cosmoline back in the day when millions needed to be brought out of storage for combat? Or was it not as sticky and embedded when it was newer?

>>64610205i shoot my s&w 686 with round head lead .38 for competitions.the lead residue makes the bore diameter smaller over time, when i clean the lead out it affects the accuracy:clean bore = big diameter = shit groupsafter 1 x 250 box of s&b lead round nose .38 = good groups for like 750 rounds/3 boxes, theni have to clean again because groups = shit when the bore is to tight from lead residue. a never ending circle of lead poisoning.my welbley mkiv only produces good groups with fiocchi .38 s&w, which has very soft lead. an armorer told me the welbley needs aenemic loads and therefore only really soft lead is properly slugged thru the bore. never cleaned it tho. groups are good but i dont shoot it too often.

>>64614167modern 8mm in commission riflesmodern 7.5 in 1889 Schmidt Rubens. But thats cause modern loads are GP11 spec vs GP90No modern ammo is straight up dangerous or imminent explosion every time. A gun in good condition will have tolerances for higher pressures +/- whatever gas mitigation it may have. While not wise, and certainly not good over time its not an immediate threat to life if the gun is at least in good shape. That immediate danger perception is the crux of the issue with people. Folks just gotta read more than a boomer post of some fudd who blew his head off cause he loaded Unique in a shaved rim 30-40 in a Lee Navy and therefore somehow connect that all Lee Navys are dangerous.
>>64614337I hope I make that mistake every time and the vise versa and I hope both are greatly offended by it.
