Would the existance of a cyborg like Smasher change modern warfare ever so slightly?
>>64607118Considering the cost of building him, and how few human beings could undergo the procedure without going completely bug-nuts crazy . . . not really. Maybe you get one or two guys who are quite literally 'built like a tank'. Great. There's lots of things that can fuck up a tank, they're just not generally carried by street level criminals in a Cyberpunk setting. He's just one guy with a lot of guns who doesn't care about small arms fire - if you could field divisions of guys with the same set up that starts to change things, until then, no.
Yeah
>>64607186But he is also fast unlike tanks,
>>64607118Suppression-resistant infantry is a dream for a reason. It would be a significant advance for the side with it.
>>64607205But when you're making a division of top of the line tanks officially the 'cheaper option' you should probably find more efficient ways to spend your defence budget.
Cyborg supersoldiers with that much of a moneysink only make sense in long term limited ROE environments. Otherwise guided ordnance is just going to pick off this guy for pennies on the dollar.
>>64607118Not if there's only one. You'd need a way to mass produce them.
>>64607118Smasher is a bitch
>>64607118No, Pondsmith has even pointed out that Smasher isn't actually that difficult to kill for anyone with decent firepower, the danger of dealing with him is that he doesn't work solo.
>>64607287The anime animewanked him too much in the minds of casuals, like for one it had him brush off being hacked as if it doesn't affect him.
>>64607257>Gets built up as the single scariest motherfucker in the history of the setting>Have the backing of one of the most powerful and best funded military outfits on the planet>Get first dibs on all the latest and greatest killing machines made by Arasaka>Still gets utterly roflstomped by some random street kid/Nomad/laid off Arasaka nobody with a dead guy in their head. I've not actually seen the original TTRPG, but does he at least get a statblock that would justify that reputation a little better than his portrayal in the 2077 game?
>>64607205>Unlike tanksYou do know most tanks can go over 40 mph right?
>>64607313>but does he at least get a statblock that would justify that reputation a little better than his portrayal in the 2077 game?Yes. 2077 did him dirty. Actual Smasher in CP 2020 is a "rocks fall, you die" from the GM, he didn't even have stats for a while. To note if you're unfamiliar with the system: an attribute limit of 10 is the human maximum without bonuses from cyberware.
>>64607313The anime portrays him better than the game.
>>64607426Is that also the edition where he's noted to have an Elvis themed body he wears when he's off the clock and partying?
>>64607426>>64607313>Actual Smasher in CP 2020 is a "rocks fall, you die" from the GM, he didn't even have stats for a while.Yeah then he got stats and he's a punk. Any decently built squad with his budget would kick his ass. The video game was pretty accurate to how he is on the tabletop. It's the Anime that billed him as a supersonic death machine.Yknow general Grievous from star wars? Where he's a faggot retard that can be killed by like any ten guys but in one animated portrayal he could kill entire armies and that was the portrayal that made a big impression on a whole generation? It's exactly like that.
>>64607118It comes down to cost whether you're talking about the anime or game versions.Super speed and hucking tanks around is great but if he costs fifty billion dollars he's a novelty.
>>64607894Sandevistan in canon doesn't even act anything like it does in the anime. It doesn't turn you into a time-stopping Flash.
