Im going to join the Ukrainian third assault battalion next month. Please advice me on gear to take with me to buy beforehand and also please on communication / phones hard to trace by radar or ability to read my location

Before political shitstorm in thread im only doing this for reasons of practicality in my life situation not politics. Pls keep topic on gear and comms
>>
what do you get issued?
>>
extra socks and one of those tactical sitting pads you can wear around your waist
>>
God be with you /k/ommando.
>>
Smartwool base layers. 150 weight for spring, 250 weight for winter. Keeps you comfy at a huge range of temperatures and works great wet.
>>
### **Weapons (most common)**

* **AK-74 / AK-74M** — the most frequently issued rifle
* **CZ BREN 2** — modern Czech rifle donated to Ukraine; increasingly common in units.
* **M4-type carbines** — issued irregularly; availability varies by battalion.
* **12-gauge shotguns** (various makes) — used in some Legion/3rd Intl units for trenches & anti-drone work.

### **Uniforms**

* **MM-14 Ukrainian camouflage uniform** — the standard issue.
* **Multicam** — appears often through donations or self-procurement.

### **Armor / Carriers**

* **Korsar-M3C or similar Ukrainian plate carriers** (often in MM-14 camo).
* Soft-armor plates + optional **neck/groin protection** depending on stock.

### **Helmets**

* Ukrainian MoD–certified **high-cut or ACH-style ballistic helmets** (10 models officially adopted; brands vary).
* Legion volunteers often refer to “**DSTU-1 high-cut**” helmets.

### **Issued Personal Gear**

* **Boots**, undershirts, socks.
* **Sleeping bag + foam mat**.
* **Rucksack**, often surplus NATO (e.g., **Norwegian Bergan** reported in multiple accounts).
* Basic **gloves**, knee pads, and minimal pouches.

### **Not reliably issued**

* Optics, red-dots, magnifiers.
* Night-vision / thermal.
* Premium helmets or Western armor.
* Pistols/sidearms (rare; usually only for leadership or special roles).
* High-quality ear-pro; some volunteers purchase sets like **Comtac XPI** themselves.

### **Overall reality**

The **actual brands/models vary heavily** by availability. AK-74 variants are still the true baseline. Modern Western rifles (BREN 2, M4), newer helmets, and quality carriers appear but can’t be guaranteed. Most supplement issued gear with donated or personal equipment.

Given what has already been discussed concerning issued gear you should probably focus on decent accessories that are often overlooked.
Decent socks, decent balaclava that is actually comfortable to wear to you. Good, comfortable gloves.
Earpros. As the other anon said a decent base layer in terms of gloves.
Can't comment on their issued groin protection but maybe bring a crye lap panel just in case.

Wishing you the best, anon.

assault units dont generally have to hold positions for long periods of time

run in what ever shoes you bought to make sure theyre good. i dont think you need full ankle height, i prefer trail running style shoes

get a couple good packs of different sizes
gloves that you like

everything else theyll probably give you or you can buy locally. there is a lot of military equipment stores in kyiv and the safer eastern/southern cities now

Seconding socks and body powder. Invest in quality socks. They cost more, but they go a long way towards keeping you from being miserable. Body powder reduces friction, stink, and moisture. Powder your feet and balls in particular.
You'll want caffeine. I'd also suggest a small first aid kit with tourniquets and hemostatic gauze. If you haven't had first aid classes, now is the time. Prioritize CPR and bleeding control.

Realistically, if you are enough of a boneheaded retard to actually fight for Ukraine, you need to bring a large personal reserve of money. Eventually there may be a time when the battalion commander decides that you will go to suicidal mission duty if you can't produce an FOV drone in 30 days. You better have money to buy the drone in that case

The best way to confuse the russians is to buy lots of cheap handheld radios, tape their transmit buttons on, and then throw them in the bushes beside the road as you are marching along. They will think a giant army is marching right at them from all of the radio traffic and surrender as soon as they see you.
>>
>>64608783
I know that the picture you posted is a bait meme thing but I genuinely can't think of a single time during the entirety of the entire war from 2022 where a single target was struck by 20 or even 5 missiles. Russians do a lot of double tapping to kill first responders though and especially for civilian targets. It's true that the foreign legion was a gigantic shitshow at the start though but the same can be said for the Russians who literally had units run out of fuel and gas because of how badly organized the whole clusterfuck was.

BraveOne is supposed to have droneshot ammo available to soldiers now, you might need points or something to order it for your unit though, idk how it works.

First thing I would do is make a single mag of DIY droneshot in case of an emergency. There are tutorials online on how to make it yourself. For glide bombs you just have to hope EW and interceptors do their job

I'm seeing socks recommended. Keep in mind that 100% wool still keeps you warm when it is wet, cotton and synthetics not so much. Wool breaths a bit better and helps sweat migrate away from your skin. Spend an hour looking up how to care for any wool items you do take. I bought a dozen pairs of U.S. military surplus boot socks about 20 years ago and still have about 8 pairs left, having cared for them & worn them in non-combat conditions in the winter only. They nearly reach my knees and help keep my entire lower legs warm. Not insignificant in helping your entire body feel warmer.

Might be worth carrying a small, lightweight range finder. If it doesn't return values in meters, learn how to convert in and out of the metric system fast & accurately in your head.

>socks as other anons mentioned

If you are in central Europe I can recommend Asolo NSX socks. High wool content + moisture-wicking polypropylene + antibacterial silver-doped fibers.

I could wear them 14 days in a row rotating between 2 pairs (one on feet, another one drying) during the day (changed to another set of sleeping socks for the night) without my feet rotting off or triggering NBC alarms. Good durability, still got 2 pairs I bought some 15 years ago and wore pretty hard for 5 years, no holes in them.

Picrel is the heavier version, there are also lighter weight hiking ones in black&gray with yellow letters.

Not sure what to recommend if you're a burger, maybe bridgedales or darn toughs?
>>
OP is LARPing. You don't know which batallion you'll be assigned to in advance. It all depends on your physical and mental assessment as well as current needs.
>>
>>64614850
>You don't know which batallion you'll be assigned to in advance
Retard, specific detachments have their own recruiting pipelines outside the generic ones. You can in fact know where you'll go if you proactively reach out to them yourself.

OP is probably trolling rather than larping but you can apply directly to specific battalions and they advertise on billboards, telegram and by sms spam.

Or Russian, unironically. Many of the OG guys that were in Mariupol had crap Ukrainian and that is fine.

If you have any tattoos that's a plus in your favor since Russians find any tattoos at all to be sus. If you have any BASED tattoos you get to skip to the front of the line since that is already dedication right there. This is not official. Also not mandatory.
