I used to like shooting long guns as a kid, but after getting to shoot handguns, that's been my main interest. I don't even know why, but since the days of playing Goldeneye 64 and watching The Matrix, the handguns always seemed the coolest, and actually owning and shooting long has showed me:
>Shooting static targets with a shotgun is boring
>Shooting flying targets with a shotgun requires paying for clay pigeons and machines
>Shooting long range rifle is fucking expensive and occasionally rewarding
>Shooting mid range rifle is expensive and boring if you don't hunt
>Shooting short range rifle is expensive and makes me feel like a queer who didn't own a gun before 2013

That's actually the only rifle I regularly shoot. It's chambered in a pistol caliber I can easily reload for, so it it's still relatively cheap to shoot. I have a handgun to pair it with, it's short, it's light, it's effective out to 200 yards, and it's really fun. But I still only shoot it maybe twice a year.

>>
>>64617830
My point is that it’s much more worthwhile to save for a very specific purchase that provides longevity and training accessibility rather than another purchase that only offers the rush of just having another gun. Unfortunately the latter is rather tempting when investments that fit the former are more expensive.
Also, there are A LOT of shit guns out there, especially in the very large used gun market
>>
>>64617834
>Also, there are A LOT of shit guns out there, especially in the very large used gun market

nta but this is 100% true. I'm not gonna bother listing them all off but I've bought several guns in the past 12 months alone that I either had to send in for warranty repair or that I just couldn't be assed to get fixed and either returned them (buds lets you return stuff) or i sold them right away to Cabela's (i have no moral qualms about selling a bad gun if it's to a bad company)

Buying guns these days is like playing Minesweeper. Q.C. is in the fucking toilet across all brands.
>>
>>64617845
Not really anon, just need to research a bit. There's plenty of quality manufacturers still around, or new.
>>
>>64617181
I feel the same. The only rifles I like shooting are 22s where 200 yards is like shooting long range with a real rifle. Anything other than 22lr is just too fucking expensive. Even .223 is too expensive to shoot unless you are shooting slowly, at long range, but the only ranges near me that have that much space are either an hour drive, private member only ranges, or public land that is a 4 hour drive away.
PCCs COULD have that effect, but none of them are even remotely accurate guns and even if they were, I would still rather shoot a 22lr.
Shotguns are fun, but only for a little while. They are too big, too heavy, and require large amounts of land and clay throwers to be fun for more than 5 minutes. If I had land where I could go outside and shoot clays whenever I want, I would probably love shotguns almost as much as my handguns, but I would still prefer my handguns as they are just more fun and more practical.
>>
>>64617700
If I ever had to shoot a person, I would probably become one of those retards that are paranoid and obsessed with pistols and start carrying a full size 10mm and three spare mags because I want to make sure I have enough ammo and enough power. There is no way in hell I would stop using handguns after a defensive gun use.

I like shooting 30 cal rifles and above even if its magdumping trash at close ranges. AR-15s IMO aren't that interesting if you can't reliably shoot them at long ranges but an AK or G3 are fun to blast with at any range.
>>
>>64617830
Wrong, there's a lot of shit guns on the market. My friend who never seems to be able to save much money keeps buying used cheap guns and its never anything good like copsurp its used Ruger Security 9s or obscure 40 cal handguns that don't work properly because the design was an afterthought. >>64617191
Where I live (medium city in the south east) we have at least two trap/skeet ranges. I've never been to either, even though one is really close to me. I've used their pistol range and it has a pretty hardcore NRA Fudd boomer atmosphere. I prefer the let-yourself-in range 45 minutes away, even if it is starting to get crowded.
>>64617271
>I don't mind shooting shotgun and rifle but only if I'm at an outdoor range
Yeah, long guns inside is miserable. I have a lot of fun with paper when shooting milsurp bolt guns. It's crazy how easy they are to be accurate with. If I'm shooting intermediate semiautomatic stuff, I prefer mag dumping into trash.
>>64617277

>>
>>64618631
Larping.

>>
>>64618633
That's for damn sure. I still haven't sighted in my Ruger American after I put on a scout rail with irons in it just because it is a pain in the ass to deal with long guns in general. I'll probably never need a long gun outside of a home invasion and even in that case, a handgun would probably work just fine too and it will be easier to get to, get out, and maneuver in the home. Why bother with a diminishing rifle skill that you will probably never use and is more expensive compared to the diminishing handgun skill that is more likely to be needed and can overlap with the rifle skill?
>>
>>64618653
As a Texan, I approve of the belt buckle!
I didn't realize that you could carry in the Czech Republic. Is it somewhat common or is it more like carrying in New York/Commiefornia where even if it is legal and you are licensed, you are going to get sent to prison if you ever use it by a jury of liberal faggots regardless of what happened?

What gun? Aftermarket striker springs are a thing, but usually people want to go the other way, getting a lighter one since it affects trigger pull. Is the LCR the actual best carry revolver?
>Great out of box trigger so you don't need to get a trigger job to make it usable.
>Can be had with or without the hammer
>can be had as a pocketable snub nose or a 3 inch adjustable sighted belt gun.
>Can be had in every relevant revolver caliber 22LR, 22 Mag, 9mm, 327 fedboi, 32 H&R, 357 mag, and 38 special with no random changes like with J frames.
>Ruger has good customer service
>Has a pinned front sight as standard so it is easy to change it out for a fiber optic or tritium sight.
>Stock grips work just fine with speed loaders designed for the LCR, unlike J frames where you have to buy a different grip or the speed loaders made for them bind and jam up.
>Every bit as lightweight as competing brand's offerings but kicks less for its weight category because of the polymer grip frame having a tiny bit of flex and the stock grip being nice and cushioned without an exposed metal backstrap.
Seriously how do J frames even compete?

Pistols have a much higher skill ceiling than long guns(excluding extreme distance shooting). Pistol shooting is one of those lifetime skills whereas rifles it's a lot less to work on.

Also handgun is the most likely thing you'll use in defense, out and about at least, if that's important to you.
>>64619953
Stock barrel sucks, light strikes are common, grip sucks get grip tape.
>>
>>64619855
Honestly, yeah
>>64619866
Actual skill issue, that's a possibility with all da revolvers. Always pull revolver trigger fully to the rear.

>>

>>
>>64617132
Guns are a rich person's hobby. If you're poor and want to exercise 2A/self-defense get a G19 and ammo and stop there if you don't want to destroy your finances.

Saying this as someone who's been poor and bought nothing but a glock and ammo for years.
>>
>>64619384
It's good but the comp comes loose and it's Sig so there's probably a basket of surprises if you shoot more than a rental's worth. I'd go Kimber if that's your price range.
>>
>>64620080
This is the first time I've seen a normal person online recommend Kimber in a long time
We are Healing...
>>
Calling it super overblown is a bit much. Heres why...

One of the main reasons someone would consider a revolver over a semi-auto is due to its simplicity. You pull the trigger and it goes boom. Willing to sacrifice the lack of rounds (in contrast to a semi-auto) due to the confidence that in a bad situation it is going to work with a significantly lower chance of failure (FTF, FTE).

Secondly, in a life or death situation too many ppl have seen too many movies and shows and thus think they are going to react like Clint Eastwood or John Wick and fire one shot in between the eyes. It's much more probable that you are going to rapid fire multiple rounds.

Enter the LCR's design flaw of false trigger reset. Specifically during rapid fire your cylinder will turn but the hammer doesn't drop. No boom in the precise scenario when you can't afford a malfunction.

I love Ruger but I'm really surprised that they haven't addressed this flaw in the 12-13 years since the LCR debuted. Now some ppl may agree with you and say it's not a big deal or it's overblown. That's fine, it's just not going to be me
>>
>>64620097
Not sure of the drama surrounding it, purely based off holding renting several 2011s. The Kimber is better than the Staccato P and compact Staccatos. Can't speak to XC and all the new HD models.
>>
>>64620131
adding that I wouldn't carry either of them despite Staccato's marketing. They both grit up in ways that relegates them to range toys for me.
>>
>>64617132
I set aside a bit every paycheck for buying new hobby related things like TCG boxes, computer parts, firearms, and/or good storage solutions for hobby stuff. Though I do a bit of monthly things like being single TCG packs, vidya, or boxes of ammo.
If you want to go full cheapshit though you can get a Heritage Rough Rider 22lr 6.5inch barrel revolver for around $100 and a $15 box of 22lr to plink with. It won't be as nice as some other things, but it's usable.
>>
>>64620110
>One of the main reasons someone would consider a revolver over a semi-auto is due to its simplicity. You pull the trigger and it goes boom.
That really lasts until the first detail strip, strikerslop pistols are so much simpler compared to the watch-like timing mechanisms that rotate and locks cylinder hidden in revolvers.

/hg/'s eternal seething over glocks will never cease to amuse me.
>>
>>64620231
With glocks you point the gun at the target with your thumbs while with a traditional grip angle you point the gun with your index finger.
>>
>>64620283
>make the gun worse for literally no reason
>u mad?
>>
>>64620293
Yeah but that's inferior to an index-finger oriented grip because humans naturally point with their index.
Iirc the Glock was intended to be an index-pointed gun, but when it was being designed they measured the natural human grip angle wrong. Can't remember where I read that though.
>>
>>64620231
As someone who slightly prefers 2011 angle, he's right it's mostly a skill issue. It takes me 10 seconds to adjust muscle memory when switching between them, past that I'm nearly indifferent.

Glock angle(and glocks in general) are harder to learn. The Kiral backstrap is meant to alleviate tendonitis for a subset of people that get tendonitis on extremely high volume over several years, not make it a 2011. My advice is just take the strap off and learn to shoot the gun. Or just sell the gun and get a PDP or something who cares up to you.
>>
Don't mind the gun, hate the company, hate the owners.
>>
>>64620309
It advertises itself as improving the grip angle.
It's definitely true that you can practice around the grip angle, but it's totally asinine that you're forced to. If Glocks just didn't have the stupid grip angle I'd love them. Beretta 92s are a particular favorite of mine, when I present the pistol the sights are right where they should be.
>>
>>64620319
It can advertise itself as whatever it wants, it's doesn't recreate a 2011 feel but people with glock tendonitis swear by it.
It's not that hard to learn. If you like glocks then practice and learn it. If not then don't. I just grabbed my microdot glock that I haven't touched in weeks and got the dot like 10x in a row.

Why would that matter though? You aren’t building the revolver, you are an end user. Is gram gram gonna build the revolver or is she going to want a gun that you open up, put bullets in, and then pull the trigger? To check if it is loaded, you open the cylinder and look for cases.

Semi autos have more steps to make ready and more steps to clear. If gram gram does the clearing steps in the wrong order, she can accidently up killing someone because there is a round in the chamber. Oops now the neighbor's kid, Little Timmy is dead because she racked the slide and then removed the magazine rather than the other way around when she tried disassemble her Glonk for cleaning.

Emailed the shim guy. He thinks I should try a . 005" shim to lower end shake. I measured . 002 and . 008 forcing cone gap difference depending on how you push the cylinder.
I wasn't thinking end shake in the first place. I was thinking of shimming the hammer pivot because the marks on the side plate suggest the sear pin is dragging.

Here's a better angle demonstrating how Ben Stoeger grips a Glock. Notice how his left index finger is inline with his right middle with the rest staggered between knuckles. This grip both maximizes purchase and has your digits function as a structural abutment where they meet the trigger guard

Black bear country, 9mm.
Grizzly, 10mm or .45 super.
Both of which using heavy for caliber, solid bullets.

Is heavy for caliber actually the best for penetration? In 9mm, don't 124 grain bullets penetrate the deepest?

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding things but wouldn't porting this aggressive massively reduce your fps? I can't imagine venting that much gas behind the bullet would help. Is this more of a competition thing were actual lethality means nothing?

>>64620441
I think the purpose is to rest your support hand's thumb on them to better be able to push down the gun during recoil.

It reduces it, yeah, but like, 5% max? It's not even enough to make the bullet subsonic and even if it would you'd still be plenty lethal for engagement ranges where pistols are used.
Comps are fine. They make your gun super loud tho which is the bigger issue imo

>>
>>64623902
It can’t since a limited amount of pressure can vent out of the ports at one time based on the size of the ports, there is pressure reduction but not enough to drastically change velocity. Velocity still will increase the longer the barrel despite ports down the length of the barrel.

Those extended barrels aren’t super effective but are better than nothing and due to being an extended barrel there is a slight velocity increase. I’m talking about an extended and ported barsto barrel for instance. The port cuts aren’t super effective. I think EFK dragonfire has larger ports but I don’t know if they do G27s

>>
>>64624252
Ppanon at length has discussed his usage of Grindr, his fag preferences, how he needs to take prep to not get aids, and has posted gay porn in these threads. And that’s not the worst he’s done

“Pastebin” is the name of a poster from arg who tried colonizing here about a year ago, he shitposted relentlessly for about 8 months (January to August) trying to push out all the other personalities and drowned out on topic discussion, only stopping when he was outed as “pastebin”. We called him Glock troon before that.

The major drawbacks of heavy for caliber bullets are velocity and, by extension, range. Since pistol calibers rely on energy retention in the target, weight is theoretically better, but that's how we ended up with 10mm and .40 S&W, which, like basically all pistol calibers, are pretty mid in the grand scheme of thing.
Also, 10mm is the new .45, but which I mean
>muh stopping power
Don't get me wrong, I like both, but you can practically replace the boomer lore of
>If you hit a man square in the chest with a .45, it'll blow him at least 6 feet back.
With 10mm pretty easily.
Oh, another thing that I really like about heavy for caliber bullets is that the recoil impulse feels better pretty much every time. 147 gr 9mm feels a bit more like 230 gr from a 5" 1911, which, all gun related issues aside, is a really nice shooting experience. The opposite of that would be 125 gr .357 SIG or .357 Magnum, for that matter.
There is are diminishing returns once you get into the world of moving heavy bullets as fast as possible, but guys like Big Bore Anon, get a lot of enjoyment out of that, so like, it's OK for people to like different things.

His name was glocktroon since he would spam the thread with his gen 3 Glock that is almost if not entirely stock as if it gave him license to be the center of the universe while butting into every single conversation in the thread with irrelevant input which is a tactic to prevent being banned for off topic. Basically talking to a wall or a bot.

He would post police activity videos and play water cooler quarterback despite never training any sort of practical shooting like retention/holster, rapid fire, or the use of a red dot which puts him at odds with other shooters in the thread

There is more to owning a handgun than what the guntube/training instruction shills would have you believe. It's perfectly fine to only own a .22 target pistol and keep it unloaded in a safe or an old revolver or milsurp and do the same.
This isn't to defend an annoying poster, but just to serve as a reminder that people own different guns and use them in different way for different reasons. I have a lot of different guns for a lot of different reasons. I have plastic stuff for TCB, and many more for theirs history or simply because they are fun to shoot.
