Militarily speaking, what weapons would you use to defeat Martians invading Earth with giant machines?
>>64627934kek, easy mode.Attack thrown off in less than 12 hours.Mars overran in less than a week.Martians extinct in a month.
>>64627934Either one of these has a good chance of working.
>>64628024You tank has nothing to do against the HEAT RAY of the martians. It will turn your little toy into a steel puddle.
>>64627934Considering they died pretty quickly from basic, trivial (for humans), sniffles let's just hit the Ayys with Smallpox, Plague, Botulinum, or the even scarier but classified shit that's being bred in the labs governments don't like talking about. Hell, if they were killed by Earth diseases that tells us that their shields and tripods weren't hermetically sealed and are completely vulnerable to airborne agents. Just hit them with every chemical weapon in the inventory until you find one that fucks with their biology; that way you prevent the risk of a runaway bio-weapon, especially if you use non-persistent agents.
>>64628080> It will turn your little toy into a steel puddle.Kek. You don't know a Mk33 BOLO very well. That heat ray will be shunted off by it's shielding well before it even begins to (fail) to heat the Durasteel armor. And that, is assuming the tripod manages to even get within it's firing range, before the Mk33 smokes it from the other side of the planet with a nuke, or chunk of H3 fired at near relativistic speed. That poor bit of Martian tech was obsolete the day it landed on Earth- Laumer 1.
>>64628118>Umm, ACKSHUALLY!You don't have to be talking about capeshit to be just as retarded as a Marvel fanboy Anon.
ironclad torpedo rams
>>64627934Lmao, nice walker. Would be a shame if it... slipped on something. Lmao look at them eat shit, Martians are such fags. Tag me in the livestream
>>64628092the reason why earth diseases killed them is because they had eradicated all disease on mars prior, leaving them with atrophied immune systems and no cultural safeguards against infectionthey literally just slurp human blood out of straws like we are just fleshy juice bags and walk around without hazmat suits on earth, so its obvious why they got infectedthats also why humans dont get wiped out by martian diseases, any microbes from mars would be weak as piss
>>64628153>they literally just slurp human blood out of straws"Syphilis patients of the world, it's time to become a hero! Welcome to the briefing on Operation: I wouldn't drink that if I was you".
>>64627934Sneeze on them.

>>64628130Daww, I bet visiting /M/ terrifies you. If you're going to wade deep, be prepared to get your britches wet.
>>64627934Old style direct-fire field guns were at least somewhat effective in the original. Modern weapons would trounce them handily; its why all the movern WotW movies have the Martians shielded or protected by some other bullshitnium.
>>64628233One reasonably handled Dreadnought fucked up at least three, per the book. Imagine what a CBG would do.>Modern weapons would trounce them handily; its why all the movern WotW movies have the Martians shielded or protected by some other bullshitnium.because modern movie producers cannot produce something worth a fuck. They have to layer on all kinds of garbage to try and add 'depth' to something that is otherwise a parking-lot-puddle.
>>64628233>Old style direct-fire field guns were at least somewhat effective in the originalthe reason why human weapons had some effect on the martians is because they literally didnt expect any resistance from humans on earth and they were creating their responses to our weapons as they saw themso the tripods were built just to remove the pests from their newfound farmland, and when humans turned out to have weapons, they responded with poison gas and flying machines >. Modern weapons would trounce them handily; its why all the movern WotW movies have the Martians shielded or protected by some other bullshitnium.modern WOTW chose not to have the same formula of escalation, in favor of just making them unbeatable from the startthe original 60s movie deliberately did it and removed even the token resistance that humans put up in the original novel because it was building up to a more religious ending, it wasnt any human weapons that beat the aliens it was literally gods planits not even subtle, the humans are praying at a church when the aliens succumb to human diseasethe original novel had the martians dying to bacteria framed more as them falling to their own pride, they had so thoroughly defeated the environment on mars that they believed themselves above nature itself, so they ignore basic safety protocol we take for granted on earth and die to itthe story opens up with a brief talk about how we humans think that our technology puts us outside the natural pecking order of earth, so the martians themselves put us in our place before germs do the same thing to them
>>64628223>my sci fi bullshit would totally win in a fight against your sci fi bullshit!I think you might be confused about what the word 'deep' means m80.
>>64627934https://youtu.be/_9vTobE1DZoReminder that there is a WoTw sequel where a jacked Teddy Roosevelt blasts invading martians with a ray gun
Nice heat ray, tentacle man. Here's mine.
>>64627934When? Because pre-WW1, you're fucked and that's the point of the novel.Post-WW1, and you're dealing with an unfair situation because HG Wells was pre-WW1 and he couldn't account for the changes in tactics that occurred. Martians at the very least have flying machines, so there's that, but they'd get wrecked by anti-tank rifles and rockets.
>>64627934If were talking original book martians that were vulnerable to torpedos, a flight of apaches could mop up the whole invasion. If were talking 2004 movie walkers with the trumpet noise and the everything-proof shield, the shield appears to be a bubble around the tripod, so presumably landmines triggered by an upwards facing laser with a shaped charge calibrated for a standoff about 100 feet from the ground should work.
>>64628024Nigga with a single 2 million ton nuclear pulse propulsion battleship(the largest and most efficient version of the 60s design) we could do that now. >>64628266You mean pre-Dreadnought steam frigate, it probably had the same displacement as the CSS Virginia.
>>646280479000 IQ, I kneel
>>64628233The 50s ones are never hit directly by a megaton yield nuke, since even tanks of the era were highly resistant to the blast effects of a tactical nuke it's not as impressive as it seems to the audience. I've only seen clips of the later ones by I know that Tom Cruise version had momentum being transferred to the walkers(which is how a "shield" would work IRL). I suspect even a 5 kiloton casaba howitzer would bust right through anything holly wood dreamt up. And if not then set of a 50 megaton mine under their feet and the aliums crushed into a fine film across their own floors as their walkers are launched into the air at about 3000gs of acceleration.
>>64629220>impact nuke directly on shield>walker walks out unscathed>reaction shot of citizens looking in terror>cut to guy in command post cradling his head in disbelief because he had just theorized that a nuke could hurt the aliens if it transferred all its kinetic energy into the shieldcome on, man
>>64629220The tom cruise walkers get absolutely railed by a barrage from A10s, M1s, Cobras, F16s and TOWs; to no obvious effect. Surely momentum transfer would have been evident on the surface of the walkers if the shields worked that way, considering a frag grenade was enough to rip the side off one they obviously aren't that armored in their own right.
>>64629188even using the original books logic, you would just see a few walkers get taken down by hellfire missiles, only for the next wave of walkers to have shields the book had the martians just counter the human tactics with a new set of their own, in an arms raceif you hit them with modern weapons, youll just accelerate the arms race
>>64628223Why are you pretending /m/ gives a toss about bolo? It's not /tank/. Go make a thread about it, see if it sticks around.
