So I get that 3.5 inch magnums were invented to deal with high flying waterfowl due to the lead shot ban and steel being less dense so worse at range.
Why do Turkey hunters and basically only turkey hunters coopt every water fowl advancement?
turkey hunters use 3.5 inch loads, extra full chokes, red dots or fiber optic rifle like sights and tungsten shot.
Why don't they just use like a .22, .17hmr or air rifle?

Turkey guns often have extra-full chokes because the shots tend to be long. Red Dots and rifle-like sights are often used because people shoot turkeys on the ground, they're using the gun more like a rifle, not point-shooting it at a fast-moving target like a flying bird or clay.

The only curious thing is why many turkey loads are steel shot. I assume that's because some states ban lead but.

Assuming you want to eat the meat, your only viable option is a brain shot. That's not hard with a shotgun but most hunters don't care to aim that precisely with an air gun or 22.

They don't. Red dots and rifle sights have nothing to do with waterfowl hunting. Turkey guns have different types of camo than bird guns. Magnum/tungsten shells are a thing, but those aren't unique to turkey shooting. You can get tungsten buckshot, coyote loads and so on just as easily as turkey loads; that's just the usual dick-measuring marketing that goes along with any kind of gun product, you find everything from 22's to big boi hunting cartridges advertising max velocity. It's numbersmaxxing for advertising purposes. Really it's skeet/trap loads that are the outlier when it comes to shotguns. Those don't compete on power, and the reason is obvious: the game rules limit power, and the high volume of shells fired make high-recoiling meme shells impractical even if the rules allowed them.

It's illegal in every state I've ever hunted in. Shotguns & bows only. Maybe there are states with an exception but I've never heard of it. Hunting turkey usually means heavy visual camouflage with some hunters choosing to stay stationary and other's using a "call and move" method. This presents alot of opportunity for accidents. Limiting your projectile's lethal range to ~120 yards reduces the likelihood of such accidents. A dense shot pattern also increases the likelihood of destroying the pea-sized brain and humanely dispatching the animal. I don't trust most folks to hit an ipsc target in the A-zone off hand at 60 yards with a rifle. Definitely not expecting them to hit a dime at that range.

Pellets in a spread while still aiming for accuracy>1 projectile while aiming for accuracy

The fuck? You can easily shoot a turkey through the chest cavity with a 22mag, 9mm carbine, etc, kill it instantly, and not destroy hardly any meat. If states didn't legally require shotguns for turkey there would be absolutely no conceivable reason to ever use a shotgun for this animal.

You clearly don't cook.

A low velocity hole is how you kill things without needing a headshot and without destroying meat. Works on every animal. I could harvest a turkey almost as easily with my carry pistol as with a shotgun.

Pro tip: If you're advocating intentionally shooting a turkey in the chest with a bullet, everything else you have to say after that will be considered laughable.
>>

Bolt action 22mag is superior in every way to any shotgun, load, or choke combination for turkey if legality were not a concern. 9mm carbine with FMJ also very effective and relatively non-destructive. With a shotgun you need a massive recoiling 3" shell that costs $5 per round and a specialized choke just to achieve an effective pattern at 50 yards. For an animal that will probably be stationary when you shoot it. That's retarded beyond words.

Also, where the fuck do you bow hunter shoot turkeys?
>>

Killing the bird isn't the primary goal in bird hunting, sport. Harvesting the bird meat is the primary goal. Bullet chest shots wreck the largest muscle-mass in the bird, you ignorant dolt.

If you're not using hollow points, the bird will fuck off and you'll be lucky to finding it. If you are using hollow points, say goodnight to most of the meat you were trying to get.

Nobody on Earth intentionally shoots a bird in the chest with anything, numbnuts. It wrecks the entire point of hunting. And you'd know that without feeling compelled to run your ignorant gob about the topic if you'd ever spent 30 seconds cleaning a bird for actual consumption.

>That's retarded beyond words.
Indeed it is. But it's also marketing wank. You don't *need* some special uber-magnum shell to take a turkey, pretty much anything works.

Shooting a turkey in the chest cavity is retarded if you plan on eating it. The last fucking thing you want to do is put a hole in the skin of any part you want to eat, especially in a bird as lean as a wild turkey.

Rimfire or FMJ to a turkeys chest is not that destructive.
