Bought some Bulgarian commerically made AK mags from GunMagWarehouse last year and this year. I found out they are actually made by ISD of Bulgaria. Are these only good for range use or any good for survival and SHTF? Supposedly ISD is also a government supplier to the Bulgarian armed forces like Arsenal is.

So I have a steel mags, all polymer, and polymer with metal lugs.

those smoothside polymer steel reinforced Bulgy mags are awesome. The commercial steel Bulgy mags suck ass because the rear lug is shaped all weird which led to me consistently having issues locking up in multiple AKs. The follower is also plastic, which isn't a big deal but god damn man, you can just buy actual soviet era mags for even less.

im fucked i bought about 10 of them.

are KCI gen 2 ak mags only for range use not actual combat use?

well anon you may as well suffer in hell for buying in bulk before trying them out first... KCI mags are typically pretty cheap, at least the couple metal ones i bought. The Bulgarian polymer mags i've ever bought are good, surplus mags are pretty much always good. You could also buy those dirt cheap AC Unity mags from RTG Parts. I bought a box of 20 or so and theyre alright; the polymer itself feels kinda cheap but the lugs are metal which is ALWAYS preferred.

I have already ordered polymer AC unity ak mags that are on their way. but they were from Target Sports USA 4.99 each.
I hope they arent defective.

I also have a few magpul moe mags, and US palm mags.

I hate the metal kci mags, I haven't had enough time on the plastic glock ones to have an opinion.

I kinda like those for some weird reason. Like a black matte version of a bake mag in nylon. Weird because usually I'd hate something like that.

Totally just asking for a spoonfed answer here but are those smoothsides still in production? Mag availability seems to come and go so much over the years for AKs it's insane, surplus or commercial.

FWIW I own a KCI and really haven't used it much at all if at all and the paint, not bluing, is already flaking off. Just from bouncing around in storage. A little more effort would be nice IMO.

My brother in Christ, load up the mags, shoot them in your gun. Do they work? Fucking good. Stop overthinking this. Half my AK mags are rusty dented Romanian trash some of which I had to fix by popping the dents out with a wrench that all cost less than $5/ea. I also have a collection of interesting AK mags that I bought back when they were cheap that would make reddit coom, but that's just because I have autism. I probably actually use the dented rusty romanians more than anything else.
