I lie awake alot thinking about how ill prepared I am or how I would handle myself in a Self Defense situation, if the drills ive done, my knowledge and experience are enough. I wonder whats the best drills to train for such scenarios within the confines of budget and whats able to be trained in the confines of a simple range, And even then drills aren't enoughDraw to first shot on target,Multiple target drills, Reload speed, immediate action drillsStress inoculation drillsMost incidents whether you are or aren't the target, even if you can draw insanely fast really depend on the current context in milliseconds, like if you are or aren't being observed drawing. Most incidents are ambushes at most, a stick up, surprise attack/robbery, or home invasion. I think if I would be able to handle my nerves hopped up on adrenalineAs far as I can I understand the old adage that you fall to your lowest level of training and rarely rise to the occasion. So whats the training plan?I understand theres lots to itRaw gun skill(speed+accuracry)Having the discipline to always be carryingUnderstanding the push and pull or right time to actAs well as cognitively understanding legal limitations of where you are at to avoid jail timeShould one just train to get blistering fast shots on paper or is there other things to do I just lay awake feeling paralyzed with analysis, thinking of whats the best way to go about training one self for something that hopefully wont happen, but if it does, can come out of it unscathed
>>64634611Martial arts can help with suppressing the panic response, so I'd advise training that (a real one, not Aikido or Taekwondo).Another related consideration is the possibility of being grabbed and needing to draw your gun. Check out some of the Shivworks ECQC classes and maybe consider attending one. The flashy disarms you see in media are almost entirely bullshit, but being able to control someone's wrists while they're trying to stab you and being able to reverse into a dominant position while protecting, drawing and utilizing your own weapon could make all the difference.Lately my biggest consideration has been for the ability to make hits at longer ranges. You can avoid a lot of self defense shootings by utilizing your Afro-Evasion, but if some retard decides to open up on the food court you're eating at with your family from 30 yards away you should be able to draw and engage accurately. Look at the Dickens case. He took out an armored shooter who had a long gun from long distance using a Glock 19 with damaged iron sights. That's why I don't really carry carry my subcompact too often any more. I feel much better carrying something I can at least get on paper reliably at 30 yards.
