As part of the modernization and consolidation of its combat fleet, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) successfully conducted the first launch of an MBDA Meteor air-to-air missile from a Gripen E fighter jet. The test, carried out on November 27th from Natal Air Base (BANT), represents a technological and operational milestone that confirms the full capability of the Brazilian Air Force's most advanced weapon system.

During the exercise, the missile was fired at a Mirach 100/5 aerial target, designed to replicate the flight profiles of fighter jets maneuvering at high speed and altitude. This challenging scenario allowed for the evaluation of the Meteor's accuracy and performance under realistic combat conditions, as well as testing the Gripen E's capabilities in long-range air-to-air missions.

Major Gregor Gaspar, of the First Air Defense Group (1st GDA) “Jaguar,” explained that the weapons employment profiles were carefully selected by a highly trained crew to maximize the exercise's performance. He emphasized that the launch not only represents a technical achievement but also consolidates the operational doctrine developed by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) for the use of long-range weapons, fully integrating the Gripen into modern air combat standards.

The integration of the Meteor missile onto the F-39E Gripen significantly expands Brazil's deterrent capabilities. This advancement places the Brazilian Air Force at a new level in air defense, reinforcing its sovereignty over its extensive airspace. With this combination, the country possesses a weapon capable of detecting, tracking, and neutralizing threats at a range of over 150 kilometers, strengthening its strategic position in the region.

brazil's brics membership is reflected on its diplomatic positions.
lula took a lot of heat for maintaining brazil's historical BRICS position.

military procurement goes through a different track. it will take some time to align it with the new realities of the world.

Does it bother you that the acronym BRIC was invented by an English banker? Not trying to agitate, genuinely curious.

I'm just curious what the BRICS countries are actually getting out of it.
>no military cooperation
>negligable economic cooperation
I guess having someone that will veto for you at the UN security council is nice to have, but even that is of dubious use since it doesn't protect you from betting wrecked by sanctions.

"BRICS" is a new avatar of thirdworldism. It's nothing new. It was very much a thing in the 1970s, after the oil shocks. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_International_Economic_Order).
In fact, BRICS countries are trying to use this platform to leverage their interests globally. This is mostly reasonable. russia desperately tries to spin in into an anti-Western alliance, but it won't work, because that isn't what most BRICS countries want either.

BTW this is the current standing of South American airforces reference chart.

Future changes:
Colombia has signed a deal for 17 Gripen E to replace its aging Kfirs.
(Though not sure if Meteors as well)

Peru is still defining its future aircraft purchase with possible contenders being the Gripen E, the F-16V, and the Rafale. They are aiming for 24 fighters.
There's also a MoE for KF-21 Boramae but not sure if that's actually a done deal or not. Either way that's on a longer timeline.
