The only extended family I have contact with is an aunt+uncle because they stay at my place when they visit my cousin (their son) who's stationed near me. All of the cousins I grew up with are married, special forces, SNCO/officer, otherwise successful. Plus they're all Catholic and my mother is a Lutheran which makes things weird. I can't bring myself to attend the reunions because I don't want to explain why I've been gone nor what I've done with my 20's
