Should I run the UM84 strong side or cross draw on the weak side? I find actuating the flap with my left hand and cross draw is pretty intuitive
>>
>>64638488
Zee/zir doesn't need to lean into it so aggressively with those big meaty arms. You are noting zim's grip not shifting correctly?

the leaning forward thing, when I first tried it it cut .2 seconds off my draw and helped with accuracy, I think it's psychological like thrusting a sword or something at the target that helps as when I tried it later with less hatred in my heart it didn't work

Is there a consensus for home defense and/or edc if dot is better?
t. fucking retard whose shot a gun once but started thinking maybe a dot isnt better if most defense situations are so close so wont you be hip firing a lot?
>>
>>64638951
>is there a consensus
No. Use a dot if you shoot better with it, otherwise skip it. Get some time shooting both to be sure of what you prefer.

get something with a shoulder stock or a pistol brace, much easier to aim than a handguns.

contrary to popular belief, handguns are extremely hard to use effectively

>red dot
Red dots are better but take a level of proficiency to use them correctly, they help with training alot by giving constant feedback where the dot = muzzle is. The professional consensus is going red dot, everyone serious about shooting professionally (combat, defensive, sport) uses one.

"hip firing" could mean lots of things, like literally firing with the pistol at your hip like a retard. The more potent term is "Point Shooting" is where you basically aim with your body, your arms, your shoulders are so consistent that they have an "index" where you have a good idea where the gun is aiming because of "muscle memory". Using a red dot is alot like point shooting except when you do it right, the red dot is projecting a red laser into space and if your eyes are lined up with the gun you will see a red dot projected onto the target.

Red dots are faster, if you do it right you look at the target, draw your gun, and a red dot will appear on the target if everything is correct. All the skills from a red dot carry over to irons as well.

Are revolvers because of their heavy fire power actually practically useful against other people in a 1v1 or 1v2?
A 357 mag can stop a person in 1-2 chest shots right?
>>
>>64639453
Yes.
Yes.
>>
>>64639453
With the right ammo, sure. If you use weak sauce loads that are basically 9mm+p+, they aren't any better than a Glonk, but if you are running a Buffalo Bore 1700fps screamer load, you will kill the body, the soul, and the reincarnation with one shot.

Optic is in, time to get it zeroed
>>
>>64639453
There is an infamous story that damn near every American law enforcement official is taught where, on a traffic stop, a trooper got into a shootout with a driver of the vehicle. The trooper landed all 6 shots from his .357 Magnum whereas the assailant landed just one round of .22 on the trooper. The .22 went through the armpit of the trooper and pierced his heart, killing him. The man who ate 6 rounds of .357 Magnum live

Placement matters. I'll take 18(+1) rounds of 9mm over 6 rounds of .500 S&W anyway, even with bears involved
>>
>>64639560
people hate this story and refuse to share it because it doesn't have fun yee-haw rhetoric about buffalore bore this, magnum nonsense or 1700fps of who the fuck cares. People don't want to be told to practice and get their shit ass groups nice and tight they just want to say 'muh magnum' and post their nice clean unfired wheelguns on my basketweaving forum.

Dots are better IMO... IF YOU TRAIN. Dots are worse in every way if you don't train with them. People buy red dots thinking they'll shoot better with them because they're so easy with rifles then are surprised at how much worse they are without training. Iron sights have more visual cues so you reacquire sight picture with them easily even with little practice, on the other hand it's really easy to lose the dot in the smaller optics especially if you don't train. That's the biggest problem that slows people down, they will lose the dot between shots and have to get it back in sight then aim again. The other issue is cheap ones are fragile which is bad for obvious reasons, good ones are pretty expensive, battery life must be minded.

And you have to actually shoot to get good with dots, dry firing can help you with initial acquisition and trigger control, but it can't prepare you for keeping the dot in sight when the gun is moving while firing especially if you're shooting on the move.
>>
If you train then your handgun preference should match your skill level. If you cant hit the bullseye rapidly with 500 SW I'd argue thats a damn good carry for you because no one's gonna tank 6 500 SW to the heart or brainstem. Most people tend to carry high capacity 9mm because its cheap and forgiving to people who don't train enough.
>>
>>64639574
I agree. I make fun of .380 and less calibers but I'd rather have someone that has trained with and carries a .25 or .32 ACP over someone who bought a 10mm Tanfoglio and leaves it in their underwear drawer because they're too afraid to shoot it

>>64639590
The reality is that if you dryfire enough (as you should)you could have a love hornet's nest duct taped to the top of your gun and your gonna shoot by instinct in a self-defense encounter

Dots are extra bulk, extra weight, extra money, and an extra failure point.
Duty gun? Yes.
Nightstand gun? Sure, why not?
Concealed carry gun? Fuck no. If you need the accuracy at range, you're probably going to jail for that shot. If you're in the one in a million outlier (mall shooter) then go play the lotto.

If you live in the ghetto maybe. Some neighborhoods are anarchic enough where you'd both need long range pistol shots and get away with it, but it's almost a duty gun for criminals at this point.
>>
>>64639874
it's always the penis bro, at least here in the states. I get the hunch that your store is fucking with you.

>Concealed carry gun? Fuck no. If you need the accuracy at range, you're probably going to jail for that shot. If you're in the one in a million outlier (mall shooter) then go play the lotto.
the tiny sight radius of conceal carry guns and the use case (rapid fire) makes red dots optimal. with a little practice you can rapid fire almost as fast as you can pull the trigger with accountability of every shot since you can track the red streak under recoil

I literally have. It's happened in deadly force encounters (not to me). It's documented.
You're a dumb nigger.
>>
>>64639560
Now let's say what actually happened. Corporal Mark Coates struggles with some asshole and the guys 22 goes off. It hits mark in the chest. It is stopped by his vest. Mark in the following seconds unloads five shots with his 357 revolver into the guys chest. Mark then "retreats" back to cover and goes to get on the radio and they guy manages to get off another shot. It goes through Mark's armpit and into his heart killing him. The asshat survived after some surgeries and spent life in prison.
The lesson here isn't shot placement. It's make sure the faggot is dead before you walk off. Shit luck. That's all any of this is.
Fucking faggot.

in my experience, drawing from appendix anything that would snag a dot would also likely snag tall combat irons.

FACT: Red dots make you faster and more precise
FACT: Red dots are invaluable training tools, making you a better shooter faster
FACT: Every optic category in USPSA/Steel Challenge scores higher than its iron-sights counterpart
FACT: Police officers randomly assigned red dots score better than ones assigned iron-sighted guns, even those without prior experience with optics
FACT: Eli Dicken was able to kill a mass shooter from 40 yards with a pistol because of his red dot
FACT: Every good shooter who posts groups in these threads uses a dot
FACT: Every god-awful shooter in these threads who refuses to post proof of their shooting not being shit waxes poetic about how irons have "SOVL", because they get mogged by dotchads

All I kept thinking about while watching that Bondi Beach footage is how I could have easily engaged those shitskins with my compact or full sized pistols, but not my micro penis carry gun. Provided proper cover, of course. It's still nothing compared to a scoped rifle, but I could definitely hit a man size target at that range with the element of surprise.
Also, that Chad that dropped that dude in the mall a few years back made a solid 40 yard shot.

You going swimming with that optic? Where you going to leave it?
What if, what if, what if?
I think having a single action trigger is more significant than aiming device for this discussion. You zeroing that optic at 50 yards with your carry ammo Mr Bond? I don't have q branch. I have shifty McHoodrat's indoor range or the many shitty corporate ones that are somehow worse.
Awesome if you can find the time to do that, but I can't. I barely get out enough to know I can hit a silhouette at 7 yards most the time.
>>
>>64638329
Kek. Never thought I'd see my foot in an op. Thanks, I feel useful finally.
>>
>>64638951
Im with this guy>>64638977
But not because of the irons, I really think good SD pistol shooting has a lot more to do with speed and controlling the gun for tight groups than it does aiming. Your likely just pointing the thing at center mass from a few feet away and getting as many shots off as possible in a short period of time.
>>
>>64640291
So, to sum: you're a shit shooter who can barely hit a target at 7 yards, but you know all about how your accuracy will degrade in an actual defensive shooting? And you're so familiar with this degradation in capability that you can actually extrapolate this degradation to other people, and tell them that they won't use their gear properly, because you don't use yours?

And to justify doing all of this, you offload your decision-making to LLM models (that don't know shit about guns, because their training data is horseshit, and LLMs in general lack qualia), as pictured?
>>
>>64640291
A nice SA trigger is a huge help, but I can hit a 12" plate at 50 yards with open sights. I only have one gun with a red dot and it isn't a gun I have ever carried. I use similar ammo (same weight bullet, same manufacturer) for practice and carry and yes, I've tested both at distance. You can do it too, if you take the time and do the work. If you really want something, you will find a way, if you don't, you'll find an excuse.
>>
>>64640328
>Your likely just pointing the thing at center mass from a few feet away and getting as many shots off as possible in a short period of time.
And you do that in training or are you hoping the technique magically comes to you in your time of need? Or it's buried inside of you and "will come out" like some sort of instinct
>>

>>
>>64640353
Care to set the example?
>>
>>64640350
That's how I train. I do also use the irons and shoot for scores as well and it definitely does contribute to just point shooting at center mass. But I don't see myself really aiming under a lot of pressure.
>>
>>64640350

I think it's from either losing target focus, or just simply slipping up on trigger control. Stoeger says losing target focus can result in fliers high, but I'm not entirely sure I understand why that is.

That ammo should only be hitting about 0.5 inches high at 25, and those fliers up top are much more than that, so it's almost certainly a me thing and not an ammo thing.

>there's a literal video on youtube
There's videos of Ben Stoeger, IPSC world champion pistol shooter, on youtube telling you to get a dot. There's videos of Matt Pranka, ex-Delta Force of 25 years, GM shooter, telling you to get a dot. There's several white papers compiled by people like Sage Dynamics that strive to document the performance of red dots in police shooters. You ignore the aforementioned data, and the opinions of better shooters than yourself, in order to cope about your lack of subject matter expertise. You lack qualia.

Moreover, you bandy about terms like "ad hominem" on 4chan because you think it gives you sort of pro forma advantage in an internet argument, but in reality, credentials matter. You wouldn't go to a doctor without a degree. You wouldn't hire a software dev without a github. You wouldn't take car advice from a supposed owner of a certain car but coyly refuses to post proof of this ownership. And you wouldn't take shooting advice from someone on the internet who refuses to post pics of his shooting.

And yet here you are, talking about red dots and shooting, even when by your own admission you can barely hit a target at 7 yards. You won't post pics of your pistol with a dot, and you won't ever post pics of your shooting, because you're a retarded fraud, and it's readily apparent to everyone in these threads but you.

>>64640542
you don't understand, shooting targets 6 feet away with wax bullets and powderpuff loads while we get to larp with wacky names like Sassy Tallahassee is peak combat performance, perhaps rivaled only by airsoft battles in my parents' back yard
>>
>>64640546
No they don't, counterstrike players are much faster. I'd like to see a cowboy action shooter hit a target 200 feet away in half a second like s1mple can.

Literally impossible. No one can hit a target with a pistol at 25 yards, especially with a piece of trash red dot that snags on your cloths, gets foggy and has the battery die all at the same time the Mossad hit squad is closing in to take turns playing hide the all beef frank.

Anyway, don't get too excited about the entire 92 series just because the 92S is a fantastic shooter. You have the best version and you have to mod all the others to get anywhere close to such a good trigger. Even then, they aren't as good as a surplus Italian police gun.
I'm too tiered from being sick to write a good transition, but you can pretty easily mod M9 mags to fit them.

Use gunprime or gun deals, or check PSA. But the base model LTT elite without their trigger job is available from the big distributors for about 700 dollars, I think I saw 650 once. It has fiber optic with blacked out serrated rear sight (great irons), sharp thin G10 grips, and the M9A1 frame. Also the M9A3 slide allows it to get the full LTT optic cut as well instead of the conversion cut for the 92X/M9A4 style slides. It’s a “why buy any other Beretta 92 in that price range” when that one exists.

I am definitely on the dots shoot better than iron sights side of the argument. But I'm not in the camp that thinks it actually matters especially when discussing CCW. Look at the Production vs Carry Optics times. Let's check SC 101 which is definitely one of the more dot favored stages due to the small targets/distance. If there's a stage the dot shines, it's these type of aim heavy stages. And it is only half of a second faster, and not per draw and string, but taking four full draws and 20 shot strings into account. Half of a second faster divided by 4. That is 0.125 faster per string. That only matters in competition against other pro shooters but not in real life.

And I'm willing to bet the draw to first shot in that first plate (plate 1) on the left is NOT where the optic makes up the time, but on the last two further plates. For CCW where people will be defending themselves from attackers around 7 yards give or take, I see zero value in a dot. And I'd argue that people who don't train (meaning not peak time steel challenge shooters) might be better served with irons simply due to the fact notrains don't have an index, but irons are easy to align correctly even for a beginner.

Who here on 4chan or anywhere else for that matter will even come close to being a GM in these type of shooting sports? Most people spouting dot superiority can't even beat an A class production shooter with their 40 ounce "carry" guns with dots, comps, and "totally not a match weight" flashlight
>>
>>64641715
Why not compare sub A class on that stage rather than the GMs?

>>
>>64641718

>>64641719
Most people who still shoot production today are those who don't care for the dot and didn't migrate to it. Within competition shooting almost everyone uses a dot nowadays. Production is usually empty except for level 2, 3, and nats.

>>64641730
The classification cut offs are based on the times people are dropping depending on their division. There was a study recently done at the Enos forums that showed the centerfire pistol divisions were all pretty much spot on regarding the times being dropped by the shooters. If you're talking about the rankings, like what Bj Norris, Max, and some other top guys are dropping, they're way past the 100% to be GMs, but those guys are extreme outliers. If I remember correctly BJ Norris is sitting at 116%. And his iron sight shooting times beat even the average open shooters GM times so you can't really go off what the top guys are doing since they're sponsored shooting athletes who just live and breathe shooting

This is meaningless babble parroted by gun grabbers, same with the "on average you only fire 3ish rounds" nonsense. There are absolutely scenarios where you might need to justifiably shoot longer than 7 yards (or shoot your entire magazine, for that matter).
You are hedging against an extreme tail scenario, and in these anomalous events, you get long tail outcomes.
After all, the median automobile accident is a fender bender in a fast food parking lot. That doesn't mean your car shouldn't have air bags. The average person will never develop a rare disease. That doesn't mean your doctor shouldn't test for them when the patient presents symptoms.

They spend tens of thousands of dollars in guns, gear, etc. Countless time pondering useless shit like making a fuss out 10 to 30fps or a 10th of an inch of expansion between defensive rounds, whether a dot 2, 5, or 8 MOA. But when you try to discuss with them actually getting good at shooting and/or practical real world information, they get violently angry?

If some anon was petty enough to keep engaging autistic retards when they demand "post groups", that anon could just cheat on the groups. The anon could group at 1 yard and say it was 20 yards. Or the anon could take a picture of a new target and just use AI. Demanding anons post groups on this shithole is retarded.

>>64642192
See above about the AI, but also you're fundamentally wrong in your pattern noticing. Plenty of seething even when guns get posted, which they do in every thread. More even, sometimes. There's also the fact that there are only like a dozen or two retards dumb enough to post their guns here, so the discussion is quite small, exclusive, and circular. In other words, pointless. Last but not least, the very act of posting guns is a pointless exercise. It's the equivalent of a thot posting her ass on twitter or instagram.

I'm thinking about getting myself a Beretta m9a4 for Christmas. If you have one, I'd like to know you're thoughts on it.
>>
>>64642208
Even if your flimsy logic made some semblance of sense before, what about now in the age of AI where you really can generate a deepfake that no one will notice?

>why is your logic flimsy?
First of all, who are you to demand proof? No one. Less than no one, actually. You're a /k/ommando, the dumbest and gayest of any chanposter. Second, you assume everyone who doesn't post a gun on this glownigger shithole doesn't have one. In other words, you believe that no one has guns except you, Burt, Berettatroon, and a few more retards in this gay circlejerk.

>but demanding to post guns is important in order to prove authority
If you want certain posters to have more authority than others so badly, I know a site where there is an upvote/downvote system. You should try it out, I really think it would be more your speed.

I've got an M9 and only held an M9A4 once, but I was very surprised by how much I liked it. I didn't have time to really "live" with the M9A4 but I found it very ergonomic and pleasant to hold. Didn't get to shoot it so idk how well the grip comfort translates to shootability because sometimes it can negatively effect that, but Berettas shoot great normally anyways so it's probably safe. I found the decocker switch to be annoying though, its harder to depress because of the spring and feels silly vs just manually flipping the safety back up like with an M9, but this is a training issue. Not much data to give you but I liked it a lot and will probably get one myself after I get this 92XI and try it out
>>

You've been saying a matter of time for years, but it seems like it's never gonna happen. If I'm getting deported, I'll unironically have to do it myself. If you’re actually asking in good faith, in Steel Challenge, you don’t have to draw .22s from a holster like you do centerfire guns, so rimfire tends to be very fast. Also the negligible recoil out of a .22.

>>

Plate=need to adjust
>>
>>64642521
Most direct mount RMRs still require tall back up irons, I have a plate system on my 2011s that makes the BUIS the same height as standard irons

But the stupid thing was that irons > plate mounted dot. Like the dot is still better than irons and you don’t need to adjust if you know how to use a dot. There shouldn’t be a “finding the dot” part in your draw or presentation
>>
>>64638329
On the topic of dots:
I have one with a 2moa dot, but my astigmatism makes it appear much larger. The dot appears bigger than the target that I'm shooting at.
I can't shoot with it any more precisely than I can with irons, so I just use irons.
>>
>>64642548
Damn nigga your stiggy is huge, maybe see if a Gunstore lets you look through different dots to gauge how much they bloom.

Holosun’s bloom a lot for me, more heavily tinted glass like RMR/SRO and Romeo X optics don’t bloom as much for me. The Romeo X to me has almost no bloom. Same thing with the acro P2
>>
>>64642561
I ordered some fiber front/black rear target sights and I'm really excited to try those out next month.
>>
>>64642548
How big is your star? Honestly even if it blooms to like 10 moa, that's only 2.5 inches at 25 yards. And you can actually adjust it unlike most "defensive" irons. And the dot is at infinity, so the target is sharp unlike with irons, depending on your focusing skills. I also have starburst reticles with most dots, and it's still much easier to aim. Try to aim with both eyes focused on target, and turn the brightness down to the point where reticle is transparent and doesn't overwhelm the target, then you can center the star on the middle of the target.
