I recently saw a video which made me impressed by the advantages of a straight pull rifle. Who makes them besides blazer? Andy doesn’t everyone make them? In the past you could more reasonably argue that turn bolt are more precise but I’m not sure that holds anymore? Also manually operation rifle thread I guess
>>64640769Striaght pulls are just bolt actions that pull striaght back. So fag is tlrunning around actually saying they are not even bolt actions rifles, because they aren't turn-bolt actiins, which isn't even remotely true. I hate that guy.
you aren't fast firing a bolt-action, stop pretending. straight-pull is almost purely 'for funsies' and has no real benefit. if anything the real meta is cock-on-close.
>>64640769turn bolts were never more precise. WWII era bolt guns were like 5 moa. the sniper rifles were just cherry picked guns that would have some modifications done to them. the main benefits were that they used to be cheaper to accurize due to things like a one piece stock and I think the lock up's easier to blueprint, but you can free float and blueprint an AR.97% of biathletes use the Anschütz 1827 FortnerHeym makes a straight pullthere's the k31, merkel, savage, beretta, mauser might, browning, there's a whole fuck ton if them. They aren't popular in the US for the same reason pump action rifles were never popular outside if Pennsylvania and rimfire. American hunting generally does not require a quick follow up shot and if it does someone would just use a semi. People just use bolts because they are cheaper.yuros use straight pulls because lol no semi auto and allegedly they need them for driven hunts. And yuros of course, fucking refuse, to use American actions like a pump or lever. I'm not even sure what yuros use them for that they need rapid fire while hunting. I guess they are cheaper than double rifles
How do you know the gun is in battery? With a bolt action, if you’ve performed the vertical bolt movement, then the gun is 100% not out of battery. I imagine short stroking is a real problem with straight pulls. Is there like a spring assist near the end of forward travel that clicks the bolt in place?
>>64640769I dont get how a straight pull works
>>64640835Imagine there’s a handle attached to the bolt carrier on your ar-15. Actually straight pull ar patterns are a thing
>>64640869Yet theres some force stopping it from cycling when fired unlike an ar bolt carrier and also it cycles when you pull straight back on it
>>64640833I think the handle clicks/rotates downward a little at full-forward
>>64640835>>64640833there are a few kinds of straight pulls. one type is basically like an AR without the gas system or buffer spring where the bolt rotates and cams. you see a similar action in the browning blr and various clones and the remington 760 and whatever the most recently produced American made winchester pump action shotgun was, I think it's still in their current pump guns. The blaser has a weird radial locking collar thing with a wedge connected to the handle
>>64640876It just doesn’t have the gas tube driving the bolt carrier back.
>>64640769Swiss K31 and Beretta BRX1
>>64640876>Yet theres some force stopping it from cycling when fired unlike an ar bolt carrier if you remove the gas tube an AR won't cycle. the bolt cams and rotates into the locking lugs when in battery and is locked up. the bolt is then unlocked by the cam pin when the gases from the gas tube cause the piston chamber inside the BCG to expand. that's why people will be annoying and say the AR isn't a true DI gun, because the bolt and carrier work as a piston>and also it cycles when you pull straight back on itthe AR cycles when you pull the charging handle straight back too because it forces the carrier back which cams and turns the bolt
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3DzVI1OdwAThis is the rifle everyone uses for the biathlon, it's like a G3 or MP5. There's a wedge inside the back of the bolt, when the charging handle is forward the wedge is forward and it pushes the ball bearings out which lock into a groove in the receiver, when you pull the handle back it pulls the wedge back dropping the balls back into the bolt body. There are a bunch of different straight pull bolts, not all of them work this way
>>64640817>1827>Designed in 1984What did they mean by this
>>64640769>Who makes them besides blazerFor a few years Sig badged the Blaser R93 as the Sig LRS.>expensive>nice riflest. used to own one
>>64640808>anything the real meta is cock-on-closenot in target shooting, I took my sportsman 15 to the range to see where it was sighted and having to compress the striker spring calmly would get tiresome. Might see how fast it can run as then I wouldn't notice the striker spring ham fisting the bolt.
>>64640991>made in nazilandthey have some fucking retarded numbering system like HK does for the roller guns which is made even more fucking annoying because only like half of HKs roller guns actually correctly follow their retarded fucking numbering convention the first 2 digits denote the action the second 2 denote the type of gun outside the actionHK has a similar thing they only follow half the time where the first number is the gen the second is the gun type and the third is the caliberan HK91 is a first gen US export semi auto rifle in 7.62 nato. an HK94 is a first gen US export semi auto in 9mm. An HK 43 is a semi auto only clone of an assault rifle in 5.56 designed to be sold to conscripts/national guardsmen in countries with conscription, like how the swiss take their sg90s home and can buy them but need the trigger pack changed to remove full auto

>>64640769>Andy doesn’t everyone make them? The "problem" with straight pull rifles is that there's no reason not to add a gas piston and turn it into a semi automatic rifle, so most designers just do that.

>>64641920Its mainly a legal thing. Many countries ban semi-auto rifles. Even more ban semi-autos for hunting. Some US states do too. So the next fastest thing is a straight pull. Also, in Europe there seems to be this aspect to hunting culture of having an eccentric/novel/unusual actioned firearm that’s built very well and works superbly despite being very unconventional, almost as a flex to the rest of your hunting buddies/circle. It’s also a weight thing. Typical bolt action or straight pull hunting rifles in a “full power” cartridge like .308 or 6.5 CM or .270 or whatever tend to weigh 6.5-7lbs. Most semi auto rifles in those calibers or larger weight 8.5lbs or more. While plenty of people hunt with semi-autos, barring prarie dogs or pigs, it’s really not necessary. For white tail, elk, mule deer, and varmint hunting the most I’ve ever needed on an animal is 2 shots and that was only on 2 separate occasions where the range was long enough for the animal to move between me pulling the trigger and the shot landing. Even then a semi-auto wouldn’t have changed anything.
>>64641380C-More (yes the red dot company) makes the M26 straight pull shotgun.
>>64640817>People just use bolts because they are cheaper.True>yuros use straight pulls because lol no semi auto and allegedly they need them for driven hunts. And yuros of course, fucking refuse, to use American actions like a pump or lever.Lmao what? Pump action are semi common in boar hunting in France, Germany, Austria, Italy etc with :Verney Carron Impact Browning bpr, dualisAnd a shit ton of old Remington 7600 in 270/30-06/280/35whelen...For the leverguns the issue lies with the fact that most lever action weren't ( until recently with Hornady ftx) rated for modern spitzer bullets ( ok there are the Savage 99, Winchester 88, Browning blr and lately the new Henry long ranger, all of wich I owned/tested) but there are expensive and confidential.30-30 is considered barely enough for cervids up til 150 m...45-70 wasn't easily found with decent hunting bullet until pretty recently 444 marlin, 356 win, 307win and 308 mx had their minute of fame each.>I'm not even sure what yuros use them for that they need rapid fire while hunting. I guess they are cheaper than double rifles They use semi autos ( usually caped to 2+1 with a non detachable swing out magazine) the most common model in use is the browning bar mk3.
