It's time to buy a gun in a big boy caliber. I plan on hunting with it, so weight and length is a concern. 500 yards and in, deer sized game. Thinking 6.5 creedmoor or .308, maybe in a 16" or 18" barrel since I like using a can. Thoughts? I like the springfield waypoint, but the barrel seems a bit long. Sig cross is tempting as well, even though I hate Sig with a passion. It has to shoot very tiny groups (sub .75 moa preferred) because im an accuracy douche, weigh less than 9 lbs, and preferably cost under 2500. Willing to go higher if its not super diminishing returns. Buy a factory gun or build one?
just get an M16A1. it does everything you want.
>>64640857>I plan on hunting with ityeah but you aren't gonna go hunting because you're too shy to go to classes, have no idea where to even go to hunt and have no idea what to do with a deer once you shoot it.so how about you just buy a steyr scout in 308 and have fun at the range instead.
>>64640873I wouldnt call myself a great hunter, or even a good one, but I do hunt. Hoping to go out west next year with a friend for antelope. Thus the 500 yard requirement...>>64640871No thanks, I have too many AR's as is.
>>64640857>deer sized gameremington pump action rifleor a winchester.Idk, what your local Walmart or Hunting Supplier has on his hands?
>>64640857>McNiggeratorBeen literal years since I've been in a gear queer thread.I wonder what he's up to.
>>64640955It's not gonna be just a deer rifle. It's probably gonna spend most of it's life on the range, and I like shooting sub moa groups. But I would like to be able to hunt with it if we do go out west this year. I have plenty of guns capable of dropping local deer, but I want something that's half precision rifle, half hunting build.
Remington 700 adl in .308 Winchester. Keep the iron sights on it and add a mid grade scope and a cobra sling. 20 rounds at the range with that setup and you’ll have both a solid zero and enough familiarity with it to have hunt effectively with it for the next 40 years of your life. The Creedmoor trash will burn the barrel out long before you tire of the rifle and the microscopic long range “advantage” all those internet cunts keep talking about is a load of bullshit if you tune your .308 loads to your skillset and equipment.
just buy a $500 ruger or savage rifle in .308 or 30-06 and buy a nice scope for it.
>>64640873A steyr scout is just what OP is looking for. Almost purpose-designed for his use case. But the scout has come a long way, and these days most AR10s would satisfy the requirements for a scout rifle. So OP, just buy or build an AR10 in whatever caliber you choose. Any short action chambering will suffice for <500yds. The gun should come in around 6.5-7.5lbs if you’re at all mindful about the weight of components, and the optics should get you to 8-8.5 pounds or so.No to incite a shitstorm, but if you really want a short and handy gun with a can, why not an 8.6 blackout? The supersonic loads have BC’s appropriate for energy retention at 500 yards and they produce about 2200ft*lbs at the muzzle, from a ~12” barrel. 338 federal is also a similar option but I don’t know how available ammo is.
>>64641490Really? AR10, or .338mag? That’s your advice in this thread?Put the computer down, find the nearest bully in your neighborhood and ask him to kick your ass on principle. Dimwit.
