Why buy exp3nsive tactical boots when much cheaper S3 boota exist?Steel toes and steel soles, fire resistant, waterproof, slip resistant, chemical resistant while many tacticool boots are made of flammable plastics like underarmor. Not shilling im geniuenly asking if there is a reason to buy a 5.11 tactical boot over a work boot
>steel toe and sole>tactical boot
>>64645146My work boots cost $400. Good boots are expensive, while cheap ones are dogshit that will fall apart after 6 months of daily wear.
>>64645146Work boots are much better at foot protection than just some resistances or reinforced toes, good ones are designed to be very high puncture resistant and closed in so hot metal, toxic goo or other shit doesn't land on the laces, sit there and melt through your entire foot. Obviously there's some crossover but I actually don't need ankle support in work boots, but I prefer my old patrol boots for hiking around the farm and walking long distances simply because they're about half the weight, have ankle support and I don't need toe protection for that
>>64645270So weight is one of the main points for tact boots?
>>64645146side zippers are an easy point of failure that will ruin the boot when it breaks.Steel toes are unnecessary and will only make your boots heavier for no benefit. It won't save your foot from being blown off at the ankle if that's your line of thought for using it.If you want your boots to be flame retardant, then you should be buying more expensive leather boots instead of the cheap ass under armor slop for $100. Of course, the easiest way to not catch on fire is to stay away from open flames in the first place.A good starting spot when it comes to boots is to think of what sort of environment you'll be wearing them in. If you'll be doing a lot of hiking in the hills then you don't want a heavy boot. If you're going to be out in the snow then you don't want a low cut height. This is a bit of a hot take, but I don't like goretex and think its a waste of money in boots. It can be hard to figure out how a boot will perform just by looking at it online, but if it looks cheap and flimsy, it is. Your feet are an investment that will pay dividends if you take care of them into old age, trust me on this. Get a good pair of insoles, I recommend Oregon Aero.

>>64645146Tactical larp boots are gay
>>64645422That and strong arch support so you're not feeling sharp rocks, logs and things underfoot, along with the ankle support so you don't roll your foot if its a bit slippy. Weight is sort of subjective, some people don't mind, others are a bit picky about it. Never bother with a zip up side though as they always seem to shit themselves at the worst possible time and then they're fucked. When it comes to work boots, its important to have a reinforced toe at least and some high level of puncture protection from nails, sharp bits of metal, wood and things. But mostly I found the closed boot to be best so if you tip something horrible on your feet like a pesticide, oil, fuel or worse- it won't sit in the area the laces and tongue are. Also especially with welding and any kind of hot metal work you just can't have laced boots and probably a pair of spats as well to give a bit more protection. Otherwise it'll burn through quicker than you can say 'whats that smell' and its better that it rolls off instead of sitting there.
>>64645504I have a 50 year old belgian jigsaw raincoat. It feels like half of the weight of the fabric has shedded over time, and it is absolutely not waterproofBut I far prefer wearing it in rain to my modern goretex coats because it doesn't trap all my heat and sweat and when it stops raining I actually dry out reasonably quickly.I imagine it's even worse for boots
>>64645504The one I posted Portwest FW65 is not a side zipper. My other choice is the adidas gsg 9.7 and between the 2 I prefer the portwest, pw is half the price too and seems much more suited for farmwork and hunting for me
>>64645146I'm a wildland firefighter. My work boots cost $700.Good boots cost money and are specialized PPE for specific tasks. No, aliexpress and walmart work boots are not justasgood for weeks out in the field, hiking hundreds of miles with equipment on your back, or kicking doors.Buy once, cry once poorfag.
>>64646044you can absolutely get good boots in aliexpress,m just that anyone who has $100 to spend on boots will not buy it on aliexpress. Most of the shit boots you see are max $30 so poorfags will just get those
>>64645146>if there is a reason to buy a 5.11 tactical boot over a work boot5.11 sucks on quality of material and labor so if not buying it on big discount, you'll get better quality and comfort with any brand of comparable price.
>>64646076you can find 5.11 stuff online chinesium since it's all made in china for 20% of the price. It's not labeled 5.11 but it's the same product
>>64645695>safety joggerThat's what I'm going to start calling the black dude at my work who calls OSHA all the time.
>>64646044This
>>64645504Boot insulation is kinda retarded unless it's an actual snowboot. Get wool socks instead.
>>64645504In every boot I have ever owned, cheap or expensive, I have never seen a side zipper be the first component to fail. Is this fuddlore?
>>64646248>In every boot I have ever owned, cheap or expensive, I have never seen a side zipper be the first component to fail. Is this fuddlore?I've seen a ton of sidezip boots fail, and when they fail in the field it's always catastrophic: the boots are done, period. You should try getting out of the chair more often.
>>64646268Sure bud, I think you should try pulling your head out of your ass. I admit that what I do you would probably consider more chemically abrasive than physically demanding, but even then I would have expected to see the tinny metal fastening give out before the rest of the boot and that's just not what transpires with a stock product. I guess it's fair that you resort to ad hominem when I'm questioning a facet of your experience, but judging by your insecurity I'm guessing you "saw" those boots fail on youtube.
Milsurp was outstanding workwear and outdoor gear for the price 30+ years ago when only poor people and weirdos bought it and the market was flooded with cold war stockpiles. Post GWOT prices have risen significantly and civillian market stuff is much better and usually cheaper.
>>64646044Suck my dick hope u get burnt
>>646461105.11.makes their stuff in Vietnamese, not China.
>>64646044I'm not a firefighter but I've learned about their boots. I have a pair of Nick's I use for work, and they're absolutely awesome. I do welding and fabrication and they protect my feet far better than any other boot I've ever owned. But most importantly, they actually get the fit right because they want detailed measurements of your feet, not just one number.>>64646060>you can absolutely get good boots in aliexpressEven if they are made well, the chance of them fitting you properly are virtually nil.
>>64646301I'm not >>64645504I'm >>64646044And in my world the people who use zip boots are exclusively dudes who don't work on their feet. They're either sitting in a vehicle or sitting at a desk. When they do need to use those boots for boot shit, the boots fail pretty regularly and very quickly.Like I said, boots are specialized PPE. Zip boots are convenient at the expense of durability, and that makes them not suitable for a lot of the tasks you'd traditionally want boots for.
>>64646424>in my world people who use zip boots are exclusively dudes who don't work on their feetIf I'm not working an active burn, but doing something else (Rescue, EMS, etc), Haix side zips are on my feet. And I've had the same two pair for a long time. Only poorfag boots "fail pretty regularly and very quickly". That's true whether they've got a zip, or not. And pencil-pushing fat fucks rarely take care of their equipment properly. It never fails they're the ones moaning about buying boots all the time.Spend the money/get the features you want. Compromise on price and you end up with garbage on your feet, no matter what else you're doing.
>>64646885>If I'm not working an active burn, but doing something elseOh so when you're not doing what I'm talking about? Ok lol>Only poorfag boots "fail pretty regularly and very quickly". That's true whether they've got a zip, or not.All else being equal, if you compare a boot with a side zip and an otherwise identical boot without it, the zip boot is weaker. Period. There are environments where that matters and environments it doesn't. But across my entire career the observation that desk jockeys and engine slugs love side zips and groundpounders don't has held true.
