>>64666311The 1875 frame is actually a lot beefier than the 1858. To be fair though, it's a pretty fun pb marker. Getting into stock class and weird shit like revolvers has really brought to fun back to paintball for me.
>>64666311Yeah brass is softer so it theoretically can stretch out faster than steel but that’s still over the course of thousands of rounds. I imagine that will go faster if you load hotter or heavier 45 colt bc pressure curve. Why not an 1873 colt or a 1875 Remington already natively in cartridge? The conversion cylinders for cap and balls are almost the same price as a peacemaker copy and your still stuck with needing to reload it all weird

I have been considering my first revolver and I think I might like to carry it. .38/.357 seems like a pretty good entry point and I have been looking at ballistics tests between the two. I'm noticing that .357 typically has better expansion in defensive loads but generally lower penetration while also having significantly more recoil and muzzle blast. It really seems like maybe a .38 Special or .38 Special +p load is really the way to go, despite >muh chronograph line go upCan anyone red pill me on .357 from a 2-3" revolver?
>>646674673" is the minimum for 357 and 357 hits hard that's the point it's like a punch from god
>>64667399>i see some complaints on the internetIt's totally a YMMV thing. From working in the restaurant industry, I remember a quote, IDK if it's numerically accurate, but they say that if you go to a place and have a good experience, you are likely to tell 2 or 3 people. If you have a bad experience you will tell 10 people.I guess my point is to maintain an positive outlook and deal with the bad stuff if it comes. You're 99% likely to be in for a great gun that runs fine.
>>64667467running .357 in such a short barrel is a fools errand. you get a marginal increase in velocity and a hefty increase in recoil. the only people that will tell you to run 357 in a short barrel don't shoot and are bench racing for the sake of feeling tough for running big boolet. it's just not worth the trade off. run 38+p and enjoy good velocity, penetration, and expansion while also being able to shoot more than a few cylinders worth of ammo before your hand gives up for the rest of your range day. personally i believe faster/accurate followup shots are more important than how "powerful" your first shot is in a defensive scenario, which is the what snubbies are made for.
>>64667399I just picked up a Cobra in 38+p for a good price. It does have some endshake that I dont love but I've yet to measure it with feeler gauges (will finally have time after work today). It looks in spec but had I paid full price I'd be a little miffed. At worst it will need to be shimmed, at best it's fine and I'll ignore it for the time being. That said everything else on it is fantastic, namely the trigger. DA is incredibly smooth, but I'd want to handle it in person first if I were you.
>>64667349I saw one conversion cylinder for like $200+ something. The only main benefit is with it being black powder it can ship directly to you
Hello, revolver freinds. I am norevolvers, but I think they are neat and I think I want to get one. Please post your favorite revolvers and tell me a little bit about them.I think I want a medium steel frame 2" .38 or .357, any suggestions would be appreciated. >>64672218Well, that's good, but I'm not surprised.I'd go ahead and order them so you don't have to wait when you need them. They are cheap and don't take up much room.
>>64652056>>64652084How do you like that beast? I nearly picked one up just because I have pistols in all the common auto calibers but no revolver and I want something that can shoot 357/38. Everyone on here was saying they were shit but it looks better than a Taurus to me.
Are revolver cartridges ever going to get shorter?
>>64667359I would be all over the 3" 692 if it had a fluted cylinder. I just do not care for the unfinished look of a smooth cylinder. Otherwise it checks just about every box I could want in a revolver of that form factor, with the added benefit of a spare 9mm cylinder for cheaper range plinking.
>>64671710no such thing as cheap .357, even 38 costs as much as 5.56
>>64671805>>64672125Excuse me chuds, he declared himself competent with guns one handed now, so you can stop lying. Those are clearly all bullseyes.
>>64660578I've thought about making a space revolver. I hate the looks of most modern revolvers, but there are some set-ups that tickle my fancy. The R8 with a red dot and flashlight that runs flush with the muzzle looks quite nice. It wouldn't be too hard to get.
>>64672679No, only longer. We must secure the existence of revolvers and a future for wheelguns, and therefore cartridge should never be small enough to fit into a grip magazine.
>>64648104Asked in another thread, but does anyone know if changing an Enfield No2 Mk1 in DAO to DA/SA just takes a hammer swap? Not sure if there are any glaring issues with this. The markings are shallow, so I'm unsure if it's a Mk1* or Mk1**. The gun has no collector's value by the way (it's been bubba'd by importers) so I'm not too worried about devaluing it.
>>64676273Without being overly familiar with the internal workings of those guns, I would assume so. Not sure if it was originally a DA/SA that someone just bobbed the hammer spur off of, or if it was a true DAO hammer. what's the sear surface like on the hammer? is there a single action sear position? I'm thinking if so it should probably just need a replacement hammer that has a usable spur.

I handload for my .357 but I don't want to splurge on magnum powder, will max loads with mid-slow burning pistol powder cause more wear and forcing cone erosion than a full case of magnum powder?
During the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, Legolas only speaks directly to Frodo once, saying "And my bow." Why? Did he hate hobbits?
>>64671406Plot twist: THIS is actually OP, too
>>64679093https://youtu.be/UOrSHb_TSH4IDK, but 6" seems to be a sweet spot for factory loads. You could have a pretty good time developing loads that suit the gun you want/have.
>>64685199>will max loads with mid-slow burning pistol powder cause more wear and forcing cone erosion than a full case of magnum powder? So, I'm not super up on the international ballistics of revolver cartridges, but if they are anything like bolt guns, your main enemy is chamber pressure, which basically equivalents to heat. That being said, my GUESS would be that a slower burning powder would reduce max pressure and therefore heat at the forcing cone and distribute it more evenly along the length of the barrel. On the other hand, a life of studying physics and engineering has taught me that things make sense until you realize there is something you haven't considered. The unknown unknown, as we call it, so I would be interested to hear a more experienced, or lacking that, educated answer.
>>64688198>international ballisticsKMFS
>>64688198You’ve got it pretty much exactly backwards. H110 is considered a slow powder for pistols. it’s extremely powerful for what it does though and works great in magnum revolver loads. But it’s still burning as it passes the forcing cone which can cause erosion. If your really worried about erosion on the forcing cone you load fast burning powder with heavier projectiles loaded to slower velocities. Lighter projectiles are gonna require more powder and end up with more gas escaping past the forcing cone…. Heavy and slow is about the best you can do… but honestly unless you have a very old or poorly made revolver, or your running constant nuclear hot loads then your not all that likely to run into forcing cone erosion..

i am really enjoying .32 HR mag but man new SW quality control is trasheverything is so gritty and the surfaces grind on each other in mostly cosmetic ways so far. how are sp101s in 327 quality wise? smooth?
>>64671481>>64671353i am loving 100 gr high desert wadcutters and JHPs in .32 hr magthe recoil is extremely soft. half the recoil of standard pressure 38 with more or less .38+p ballistics/effect. federal 85g jhps get like 20" of penetration too. deeper penetration but slightly less cavitation in gel than 38+p but there wasnt much in the first place so it's all shot placement. you get 6 rounds and while QC is hit or miss with SW now that's the industry standard and the 632UC has great grips.for a 16oz gun, half the recoil of .38 with 38+p tier performance is great. if you get an SP101 which i might you can use buffalo bore's hot .32 mag loads which are .30 super carry tier. might need to send this off a gunsmith for an action job but it works fine just meh jeet quality control compared to old SW but that's every company now for the most part. highly recommend the cartridge though.for what extra power 38 gives you over .32 its only a little and frankly not worth the recoil, hand pain and loss of an extra bullet when you get faster and more accurate follow up shots and still in the 38+p category of overall effectiveness with the right loads
>>64694172only real downside is the ammo is expensive but you can train with 32 long from sellier and bellot since they hit about point of aim tooi enjoy the grips and actual iron sights and the ability to put this in a coat pocket and do anything with it. holster or no holster. very easy to be armed in those moments you'd normally leave your gun at home and you're not underarmed by any means either and your hand isn't going to get raped like with a .38+p in an airweight
>>64694164I have one of the new 3" barrel ones with the half lug, its OK but has sticky extraction on standard pressure factory .327s. I really should send it into Ruger and see if they'll polish the chambers under warranty.

>>64700352Sadly I live in NJ where handguns are very annoying to get, so Ive just been focused on rifles and shotguns for now. Ive really been dreaming of finding an early 7mm Mauser sporter I can set up as a perfect adventurers rifle. 7mm was all over the place in South America, and was very popular for hunting in British colonies, so alot of Africa, the Middle East, and India, as well as being decently popular in America at the time. A kind of "go anywhere in the world" scout rifle, but circa liek 1930
>>64701948Sticking to the thread though, yeah Id adore a New Service, basically any like "pulp" revolver or handgun that works as something youd see on the cover of something called like Jungle Adventure while also fitting on like Crime Capers Weekly. A 1911 would be pretty nice though, cause it really covers alot of duty for the various 20th century aesthetics I love. It my oldest gun in terms of manufacture date and it has the same bullet diamer as 6.5 Sneed More, but with a lot more case volume, so it is easy to find projectiles for, if you are into reloading. While it is a pretty ancient cartridge, I guess it didn't gain popularity in the civilian market until after the war.>>64701964>the cover of something called like Jungle Adventure while also fitting on like Crime Capers Weekly. You seem like a pretty cool dude.>A 1911 would be pretty nice though, cause it really covers alot of duty for the various 20th century aesthetics I love. I have modern guns for anything serious, but I really want a wheel gun. I have been reading a lot of The Black Mask magazine, which is full of detective and adventure stories, perhaps most famously those by Raymond Chandler and Dashell Hammond creators of legendary P.I.s Philip Marlow and Sam Spade respectively, so I have been eyeballing. 38 snubbies, too. It is also at least part of the reason for the 1911, but I am really liking those old No. 3 horse pistols. I have more guns than I know what to do with, and honestly I’d just like to get rid of like 90% of them. I think I have a genuine problem. Like I’m always after “the next one”. In my head I have this fantasy of “oh that would be so sick to have a rabbit ear 12 gauge or an 1897 Winchester.”; but as soon as I get x, y, or z- it quickly becomes apparent to me that I literally just spent x amount of money on something I’m just going to look at. I hate it.

>>64711225what are you going to do with it
>>64711225GP100 no question, the SP101 is just not as good feeling during each trigger pull, and hot .357 is much more easy to shoot out of it.
>>64648150>>64648182this. My Wrangler is fun as hell.
>>64711225GP100. It was my first gun and its an absolute unit. Recently hit the range for new years and was hitting targets at 100 yards with some puny .38 special.
Purchased this 38 Long Colt Spanish revolverfor $50 at the local Gun Show. It has an issue with chambering and the hammer doesn't lock. I'm taking it to a gunsmithing friend who is going to give it the once over and hopefully fix it. I'm not planning on making it a shooter, but for blanks. Another friend who does French resistance for ww2 reenacting is intrested.
>>64710552Not the poster of this gun but I own a 6in 19-3 and I fucking love that gun. Best $550 i ever spent on a magnum. K frame and target grips are just mint. Even at 50 yards away I can still hit dead center mass. And funny enough I could have traded it for a ww2 P38 with original holster and extra mag. They are worth it. Now I want an 8in model 29.
Just want to run this by /rg/.1967 no dash model 36 light strikes only in double action. It's not the firing pinIt's not the springIt's not end shakeIt's probably not side plate friction All these things are in spec or have been corrected to spec. Hypothesis: New Republic slavshit ammo and over lubrication is the culprit. It leaves yellow grey specs of unburnt powder in the chamber. Gun has never failed on first cylinder. Light strikes always work on second strike. The light strikes are being caused by these grains sticking to the inside of the star or rim of the chambers and cushioning the first strike. This happened in the second cylinder after second test with new factory spec spring. This happened only after an entire box with extra power spring to the Hornady ammo (the slavshit caused the critical defense to fail?)Question: is it likely that the 9 pound spring is unnecessary and that a complete cleaning and degreasing followed by minimal oiling (so the star and chamber rims remain dry) and NEVER using slavshit in this gun again might make it reliable to carry? Leave the 9 pound spring in anyway? Also I bought the Ruger but I'm still considering the Smith as a New York reload plus the single action trigger is really really good.
>>64709548It's probably fine if you don't live in the ghetto. Despite what the rest of /k/ says outside rg, almost no civilians get in any John wick shootouts. I've recently started pocket carrying my NAA mini .22wmr if I'm going somewhere I know is safer than average. Honestly I love carrying less weight. It's never misfired, but about 1/10 tumbles out fyi. I don't consider it a big issue, since I wouldn't want to get gutshot by a .22 doing cartwheels anyway. Paul Harrell said NAA mini is what his dad always carried. Obviously things were much safer and Whiter back then fwiw.Typically I appendix carry a Taurus 605 .357.
>>64711227Need a new conceal carry pistol and I can't find any LCRs in .357 for a good price so I'll just lean into the SP101 or GP100.>>64711233Do you CC your GP100?>>64711317Looks like fun anon!
>>64714497>Do you CC your GP100? Nope, I’ll carry my Desert Eagle though once it’s cold enough, can’t beat 31 rounds of .357 mag!
>>64711303Mine would be fun if the damned base pin wouldn't pop out every 5 shots or so.
>>64714517.357 out of a desert eagle has always struck me as a waste when you can shoot .44 or even .50 African Eliminator out of it. you can load 10mm to .357 energies and it will be more reliable and easier to conceal than a desert eagle.

>>64716907Honestly this.
Clean happy girls. I can't decide what to get next. Save up for a 5" RedhawkCap and ballOr whatever wood handled 4-6" .357 I find locally.
>>64717565I vote Redhawk What caliber?
Probably .357 since I already have a big stack and am familiar with it. Besides which we don't have grizzlies down here.
>>64715235I carry one as a backup pocket carry. Maximum convince, but underpowered and takes a ton of practice.
>>64717565Redhawk, get it in 44 mag. I had a 5 inch blued and it was nice but I traded it for a 7.5 inch blued because I wanted more velocity. They are both awesome guns but I noticed a difference with the 7.5 in barrel which better suites my needs for putting hole in steel. The 5 inch was better to carry around which I didn't do with my 44mag anyways since I lug my .357 instead. Also if you go with the redhawk get some bigger grips for it the stock woods they come with are tiny and hard to grip.
>>64714567That’s because you’ve never shot one, it’s amazingly controlled and accurate, .50 is just a wrist wrecker and the .44 mag barrel I have jams after 3 mags, while .357 mag is perfectly reliable for at least 4 50 round boxes before some oil and or cleaning is needed.
>>64717750Do you have the "grip holster" on it or just regular grip? I saw they have swing out ones and the Scholfield style "Ranger II" as well. I would want the conversion so I could spam practice 22lr
>>64718077A 50 ae desert eagle is only a wrist wrecker if you’ve never tried a revolver in hot calibers….
>>64718654Just the standard in .22lr. I've only heard bad things about the conversions.
Alright so I probably sound like a silly billy, but Ive been thinking lately about a little carry gun for the sole purpose of carrying around the farm rain or shine to just plink and carry on my side all the time, and run black powder through just because why not- I love black powder.I love .38 but here’s the deal- I have a couple 38 revolvers. One is my grandpa’s old m&p 1905 target model which I absolutely love, but it’s kinda sentimental to me. The other is a snub nose Taurus, and I don’t like it.So my question to you anons is- should I just run my grandpas old m&p or should I buy an old police trade in model 10? What’s your honest take on this? I’ll admit I know it’s kinda dumb having guns just to keep nice, but man..
>>64650059Perfection.
>>64718654Mine is a sidewinder. I've heard the break top has issues with guys accidentally opening it with their thumb when trying to cock the hammer.

>>64715856i love how you pmg types all have 10k or less in physical metals then try to flex online like thats any better than nogs posting pics of their cash
>>64719202>I’ll admit I know it’s kinda dumb having guns just to keep nice, but man..Guns that you have just to keep nice are called "safe queens" because they just sit in your safe and look pretty. There's a name for them because a hell of a lot of people have them. (I've got a couple myself.)Keep the 1905 model in the safe, and get the old model 10 to carry, if that's what you feel like doing.
>>64720158I've got a ranger 2 and have never once accidently opened the gun while cooking the hammer. I actually took it shooting yesterday too. The rounds land a bit high when shooting 22lr through the conversion cylinder.
Finally took my SP101 shooting after fixing it up. I was able to do 1.5 inch groups at 10 yards DAO and sights were dead on with Federal 357 mag HSTs. (Which is what got that best 1.5 inch group. That shit is perfect!) I am super happy with it! Got its first powder burns on the cylinder from my pissin' hot handloads too.
>>64721356I think you may be right, honestly. I’ll think on it a little while. I may or may not change my mind about the 1905, cause it’s not pristine or anything; just sentimental. Anybody know what model 10’s go for in pawn shops these days?
I know gun shows are almost always shit these days, but is it still possible to find old revolvers in decent shape at them?
Anons, I’m curious. So between 38 Special and 45 colt, what do you honestly prefer and why?
Should I buy this shit? Everyone says it's fun to shoot because you can larp as a cowboy but I can get lever action rifle for the same price and that would be even more fun I guess.
>>64724236Do you want to saw yee hah or do you want to say howdy partner?
>>64724236I personally hate to shoot, load, unload, aim, cock, hold, and generally handle these tiny-gripped pieces of shit but it’s a piece of Americana so I respect it anyways, you do you, but I can’t personally stand them.
>>64724363have you tried an 1860 Army conversion
could anyone share insight on handgun caliber revolvers?getting a 10mm revolver and moon clipping .40 seems rad but I'd really rather stick to a 9mm just for that extra shot at the very leastlooking at a Taurus 692 with the 9mm cylinder
>>64723953Depends entirely on what you're doing with it.Pocket carry? .38 spl.Long range target shooting? .357 mag.Rootin' tootin' backwoods larpin'? .45 colt.>>64724236>gunYes.>>64725052I have a 9mm cylinder for my 1875, mostly because it's cheap to feed. Unless you're already set up for shooting a lot of 10mm/.40 I don't see any reason to go there with a revolver.
>>64722443>Anybody know what model 10’s go for in pawn shops these days?Same as on GunBroker because that's their reference for guns just as Ebay is for everything else they're selling.
>>64724307>pic related>>64724363>>64725202Well, yeah it's a gun and I like guns. It's just that I am a bit worried I will shoot it couple of times and then put it away or just fingerfuck it while watching some western movies at best.
>>64725931Well I don't know about you, but single action revolvers are my favorite guns to shoot.
>>64726476Yeah, I fucking love single actions. Everything is so manual. It feels like you are operating the gun rather than just pushing a button over and over like with striker slop. I actually carry my Blackhawk sometimes just because I think it's cool. They also make great fidget toys while working. A lot of the time I unload my Blackhawk and just play with it, Spin it, and just listen to all the clicky clocky noises the action makes.
