What's the best security for a sliding glass door that's been broken into twice? It's kind of hard to properly secure these things.
don't have one
>>64648615>What's the best security for a sliding glass door that's been broken into twice?Replace it with an actual door and not a fancy window
Mild steel
>>64648615Storm/hurricane shutters if you won't replace it with a real door.
?
>>64648615A claymore mine with the detonator wired up to a glass-brake sensor.
>>64648656Ah, I see the "South Africa barred window" aesthetic is making a comeback. Usually only see that in third world countries and US ghettos.
>>64648615You can put security film on it, it'll still break but it will stay intact and they probably won't have the time and energy to chop through the suspended glass.
>>64648615A big-ass dog.
>>64648691You can get fancy wrought iron ones with intricate patterns.
>>64648615Punji spike trap in front of it covered with leaves
>>64648615replace with brick and a steel door
>>64648691Do you prefer the industrial sliding accordion gate aesthetic?
>>64650436personally i'd rather have more of a telescoping blast shield look, sadly most of the options in that bent look like you're closing your bodega down for the night.
>>64648615Get proper security glass.>>64650436That's much cooler, it has that Kowloon sort of feel to it.
>>64648656Came here to post this. I grew up in a neighborhood where these were common and escaped, now I'm starting to see them again because cities spread like cancer.
>What's the best security for a sliding glass door that's been broken into twice?Bait the retards to do that again while you wait for them inside and mag dump them. Simple as.
You niggers are retarded. This >>64648656 is normal and something anyone with 2 braincells should have even when in a safe neighborhood.
>>64648615Did you walk through the glass again anon?
>>64648690>drop a plate in the kitchen>living room explodes
>>64648626That.But wonder if safety/security film would work. Has to be cheaper than new doors or some roll down thing.
First of all, sorry to hear about this thieves are scum of the Earth. If you own your property, I recommend getting quotes from two companies Roll A Shield and Rollac for roll-down security shutters. Roll A Shield does aluminum and Rollac does aluminium or steel. Depending on the amount of space overhead you can have steel (heavier so it needs a bigger spring). I had a lower quote on Rollac but they ended up switching to aluminum on me (lack of space) so you should pull both quotes anyways.I had guys come in for putting the security film on glass but I was told you need a steel frame on the sliding door to anchor the film, otherwise the film will just pop out the glass in one piece instead of shards. Nearly all new sliding doors are Aluminum or vinyl (so was mine so it wasn't an option). One last thing, I ended up asking for quotes from nearby sheet metal shops to reinforce the surrounding frame. Some shops, "don't do quantities less than 200" but some shops are cool and you can just tell them what project you're doing and bring them your drawings and they'll cut you custom sheet metal better than you can imagine yourself and your entire door will be really hard to bust out. Prime and paint it and it will not be visible until you're close-up.If you're budget-constrained, then I'd just tell the sheet-metal shop to cut you a piece to cover the glass and screw into the frame because fuck it, you have to stop the thieves, safety first.I live in California and had to deal with this shit. It isn't cheap but a buy-once cry-once kind of thing. Good luck my man.
Get a Polycarbonate sliding door.
>>64650436>>64650590>>64650901Bars on all windows with egress bars on the bedrooms and basic cheap metal security doors are the most basic level of security every home should have. If you have these on your home, Jamal is simply moving to your neighbor's house to rob. Yes, you can rip these out with a tow strap and toyote corolla, but nobody is going to bother making that kind of commotion unless you really pissed them off.Even these 6 screw ones, if drilled into studs, are better than bare windows or security film.
I have a hurricane rated one, but I still have shutters for it that I lock if I'm out of town.
>>64648615>twiceGlass doors are for high trust neighborhoods. Yours is not at this point. Build a compound or get rid of it
>>64651266>Yes, you can rip these out with a tow strap and toyote corollaOnly when they are installed in a paper+wood american home
>>64648656gonna need a rip and ram for this
>>64651439My house is CBS. I could yank those things out of masonry with my car no problem. You underestimate shock load and overestimate your anchors.
>>64651210>I had guys come in for putting the security film on glass but I was told you need a steel frame on the sliding door to anchor the film, otherwise the film will just pop out the glass in one piece instead of shards.Didn't know that but makes sense.
>>64651472>otherwise the film will just pop out the glass in one piece instead of shardsI'm thinking of doing my windows with it for that reason.t. Kyiv
>>64651439No wall, stud, or mount is withstanding a car or truck tearing them out of the wall.
>>64651459If it's not those cinder blocks which can be picked through with a spoon, then no.>>64651764Bruh, I've seen people try to do exactly this with a grate on an old brick house with thick walls. It failed miserably, because the bars were embedded into the walls.
>>64651796I grew up in Moldova and that's how police forced entry into homes. Rip the shit right down with their trucks.
>>64651368Yes but point being Tyrone isn't going to bother doing so if the neighbors make a much easier target.
>>64648656>ruins view>now living in jailJust get a fucking steel door at that point.
>>64648842A little ass dog.>>64648691>and US ghettos.Like El Paso.
>>64650590I would do this, but put roll at the bottom so I could say>RAISE SHIELDS!And then work on my bamboo canon.
>>64651796>If it's not those cinder blocks which can be picked through with a spoon, then no.Shut the fuck up already. Some gypsy with an old mercedes and a tow strap can definitely yank your shitty bars off of your ancient stone walls you delusional eurotrash.
>>64648615Don't forget to film it in action.
>>64648615Depends .What can you legally do to a home invader?
>>646486153M film
>>64652096IIRC its decent but lab grown rubies are a more viable material because they're cheaper.
just get better security if you wont be home
>>64648615have it double paned and fill it with syrup
>>64651870You can open it while awake dipshit.
>>64648615Not using one
>>64652149Even a small loud angry dog that wont shut the fuck up like a dachsund would work. Better if it just makes noise too, even guard dogs you have to have some bond with to not get mauled by.
>>64652149No offense dude because I love dogs, but I could bash a boxer, pitbull, or German shepherd's fucking brains in with a crowbar.
>>64651870Get steel door and put wrought iron bars over it like I did.
>>64651210Addendum : I checked and I bought from Rollok, not Rolloc. I also mounted mine on the inside of the window.
>>64652165That's why yappy dogs that are used to evading humans because they wont shut the fuck up are the best kind of dog.
>>64650901>normalIt shouldn't be.
>>64652165maybe if youre lucky, but a shepherd latching on to your arm is going to ruin your fucking day and possibly leave pretty bad damage and likely permanent mobility issues. if there are two dogs you dont stand much of a chance.
>>64651213Underrated commentPolycarbonate is cheap, transparent and hard to break, does not shatter.Cop shields are made of higher grade polycarb, it even stops small calibers
>>64652491It'll yellow and photodegrade in a few years exposed to sun every day, there's a reason it isn't used much externally
>>64652149Dogs are shit tier security. I bust your window and throw your dog a chicken breast stuffed with rat poison and it's no longer a factor after half an hour.
>>64648615dog on the outside, guy with a mk18 on the inside
>>64650436Yes, actually.
>>64651860That's just because the install them like ass. Here they have to either cut them down with hydraulic shit or use torches.
>>64650436The pawn shop I worked at had these inside and outside of the doors and windows. They were installed to the door/window framing and floor though. We also had anti shatter film on all the windows, which themselves were glass clad polycarbonate I believe. There are also accordion doors that should install in the current sliding door track you have.
>>64652947Real security bars built into the structure of the wall with long tails and tall heads are a pain in the ass even in a stick and paper American wall, but if your bars are retrofit, it doesn’t matter what the wall is made of. So that’s what it comes down to, if your neighborhood has been shit so long that the window bars were part of the design of the building, they’ll resist a strap and tug, but if your ancestors ever lived amongst fellow humans, they won’t.>>64652656You and most other burglars don’t know enough about dogs to properly dose rat poison. It’d shock you how much warfarin it takes to kill a dog or a toddler.
>>64648615Park car down street. Wait inside in the dark.
>>64652974>Go to pawn shop>Case it and throw off suspicion by buying 2 ladders>File the serial numbers off of the ladders>Use ladder 1 to reach upper windows>Break windows with ladder 2 which is now inside>Grab a bunch of stuff and escape through upper windows on ladder 2>If you can't retrieve ladder 2 then it can't be traced back to you
>>64648615Serious answer: you could get a dog. My grandparents are in their 80s and they have two German shepherds. Two times this year they woke up to barking and looked to see nothing, checked their ring cameras and men had tried to break into the house but ran away when the dogs started barking at them.
>>646526562 out of 3 of the Australian shepards I've had would rather tear your Achilles tendons out than eat food you provided. They would lunge at friends of mine trying to give them treats.
>>64650901Nigger, a safe neighborhood is one you don't worry if you forget to lock the door when you leave, and the gate is there only to keep dogs out, unlocked, just latched.
>>64652656>throw your dog a chicken breast stuffed with rat poison and it's no longer a factor after half an hour.Ah yes, the famously quick-acting delayed poison made so specifically so rats don't connect the dots. Good thing it works completely differently on dogs.
>>64648615Put it on the third floor
>>64653022This isn't the pawn shop I worked at, we didn't have top windows.
>>64653175>a safe neighborhood is one you don't worry if you forget to lock the door when you leaveThat's unrealistic anywhere in the US. I don't care how white or remote it is.
>>64648656>>64650436Which is most secure?
>>64653192Most rat poisons only work because rats don't have a vomit reflex.
>>64653361>That's unrealistic anywhere in the US. I don't care how white or remote it is.The US isn't a very safe society.Arguably, it doesn't even want to be.
>>64652976>properly doseAre you retarded? You don't need to "properly dose" poison, you just cram a fuckload in there. "Properly dosing" is for applications of scale where you don't want to be wasteful.
>>64652532Thats mostly a UV issue that can be mitigated with a UV reflecting surface
>>64648615>>64651396Even if you do live in a good/safe neighborhood. A huge glass entry points with no kind of reinforcement for a home is the dumbest idea. Even a weak storm can have you fucked. Any hazardous weather really. That giant door would be the first to go in any event.
>>64654495>That giant doorThat giant glass door*
>>64654444"a fuck load" is probably not enough. You're talking about using poison meant for a creature of a couple ounces on something 100x bigger. a toddler or a dog can eat an entire package of commercial rat poison and while it'll get sick, it probably won't die.
>>64653529The commercial scissor gate would be, but only because it's mounted to a commercial building and price isn't a concern. These are typically custom fabricated for your required size and made to order, or modular and installed by the company. There's 2 types of scissor gate though. Option 1 is "please don't come over here right now, uwu :3" and that's mostly for loading docks and the cafeteria or nike store inside a mall that's already locked up itself with security roaming. Option 2 is "access denied." You want Option 2. What I ended up doing for a similar situation was putting a gate like pic related in, running solder over the security screws to make them harder to simply drill out, and then I ran a piece of angle iron cut to 96" (I think) near the top and bottom so you couldn't rip the gate out by hand as easily. It wasn't attached to the gate, it just worked kind of as a guide so the gate couldn't swing. Just drilled that angle iron right into the studs, like 8 screws per side. Was it ideal? Probably not. But it was 1/4 the cost of a true scissor gate and like 1/6 the cost of traditional double steel security doors. My intention was looking like a beefed up crack house since most of my neighbors had heavy security doors and windows on their properties.
>>64652011They don't know.
>>64654918Sorry, like picrel for my setup. Right up against the patio entryway.
>>64652157>You can open itYou can open a steel door when awake, too. Dipshit.
>>64652174True belt and suspenders man, riht here. I assume your pants don't just randomly fall down?
>>64652179>mounted mine on the inside of the window. Why? Now all your panes are at risk from hobs and hurricanes.
>>64653361>unrealistic anywhere in the US.I pity you for livingnin this fear. My front door doesn't lock at all. Safe for the last 20yrs.
>>64654925This is a cheap shit solution, that looks like crap, can be easily climbed and looks like a bitch to retract and deploy everytime you go anywhere. Total fail.
>>64654946Survivor bias
>>64654959That's out in the open, mine is against an enclosed patio. You can't climb over mine. Yes it's cheap.
>>64648656>2 doorlmao
>>64652976>or a toddlerspeaking from experience, mate?
>>64655014NTA but I assume that LD:50 estimates are probably available for children and common household poisons.
>>64654968Or reality?
>>64652990That's entrapment!!
>>64655096>entrapment
>>64655090Reality would state that locking your door is a good thing because people get robbed every day. Do you also not wear your seatbelt because you think youre a good driver?
>>64652145ALON and sapphire both are aluminium oxide compounds, they both qualify as transparent aluminium.
>>64654631> a toddler or a dog can eat an entire package of commercial rat poison and while it'll get sick, it probably won't die>probablyCheeky
>>64654946Cool. What is your home address?
>>64652165You probably can, but have you tested this theory against a dog that explicitly wants to harm you?
>>64653529>>64650436>>64648615The scissor gates looks way fucking better, but honestly they're a deterrent at best unless you bar literally fucking everything. Niggers are like flies, the second you let one get away, it will spend its entire life trying to get back into your house. You're better off camping the door with a shotgun for 2 weeks because until Tyrone is in the fucking ground, you're fucked. He'll break in, hell wait until your gone and cut out all your locks, he'll wait until you're coning home and jack you as you're getting out of your car. Niggers are literally fucking animals dude. Either sell the place and move, bait a trap and wait, or better yet, buy an airpod and go "hunting". Those are your options, the cops will not help, and reinforcing your house to the limit costs more than its worth.
>>64655014A cousin of mine found the green candy behind the TV in Grandma’s basement when he was 2 and I was 6. The panic of the adults was a formative memory, especially since the treatment ended up being “don’t let him get a bruise for the next day or so”.
