What allowed the US to produce the weapons they did?
>>64651382it had 4 different magazine sizes not two
>>64652321American or Bahamian?
>>64653871Yes, thank you. It's why I was wondering if anon was going for a trick question.>36rd double stack mag (got used more later)>40rd drum magazine (early, used very little)>50rd quad stack mag (nice capacity and form factor, but not 100% dependable)>72rd drum magazine (famous one, heavy and bulky, but also super reliable)I wanted to say that the original 40rd drum was something I've never seen, but apparently they looked very similar to the later 72rd drum externally, and they just weren't using the space as efficiently (only the outer track?).If anyone ever made any cut down or stendo double stack mags, I suppose it might actually be more, but it feels like that would have been some oddball postwar stuff.
Here's a Kp/44, it's a reverse engineered copy of the Russian PPS-43 but in 9mm Luger. It primarily used those same 36rd double stack mags you'd also see in other Nordic SMGs, not as delightful of a capacity, but they were cheap, light, and very reliable, and with the slower cyclic rate on the Kp/44 the capacity was fine. Less fun to use in the much faster Kp/31, but they work.It should be noted that the Kp/44 could use all of the same magazines as the Kp/31, so if you load a 72rd drum in it, then you can really make it last a while.(I'm pretty sure the gun in this image is a semi-auto parts kit rebuild in the U.S or something, as the barrel extends through the muzzle device).
>>64650628What is a spandau?
The early 40rd drum which wasn't used much.
>>64654608Later 72rd drum for comparison.
>>64654613On a side note, the 72rnd drum is a bit of a bitch to fill as the procedure is to open the drum up, crank the follower to make room for cartridges, then place rounds in the free space. The 9mm cartridges fall over at the slightest bump. Advanced users turn the follower in small increments to make just enough room for the next cartridge, but it gets heavier to do as the spring tightens. On the upside, this drum design is pretty much impervious to accidental spills once you close it up.
>>64654634Still better than the first 40rd drums.
