>In a combined arms what is their role?
They add flavor to the dish. Like garlic and onion. Having a combined arms without them (or something similar) is a fools errand.

the purpose of a Bradley is to carry around infantry for armored units.
the purpose of a stryker is to carry around infantry for units that aren't built around tanks.
>>
The LAV-25 was better than the Stryker.
>>
Strykers make less noise. I've heard stories of them rolling up to a target at night and the target was still sleeping.

For when you need to be there now
For when you need to be there in force

Wheeled vehicles have much longer maintenance intervals compared to tracked vehicles. I'm honestly surprised that we don't see diesel-electric vehicles making a comeback. I guess electric car makers aren't making big enough motors. Brushless DC motors really are a modern marvel.

Lithium-Ion batteries react very badly to getting shot.

>Stryker
>5,000 built

Damn, I didnt realize so many were built. I thought the Stryker program was deemed a failure and they are no longer making new ones.

that's not what diesel electric means

It's okay, you Americans are illiterate

That was specifically the M1128 MGS variant of the Stryker. The APC and IFV variants are perfectly fine AFAIK.

IIRC any procurement changes have had to do with whether or not something is viewed as useful for a potential war in the Pacific, and the Stryker really isn’t built for an island hopping campaign. Beyond that, while it was never a world beater it was perfectly competent at what it was intended to be, a vehicle heavier than a humvee but lighter than a Bradley that could be moved with a C-130.

Can't compare a 2000 era vehicle to an 80's one thats 2x its weight on maintenance needs

Diesel electric only makes sense where gearbox size is a limiting factor.

Stryker isn't really an infantry fighting vehicle, doctrine-wise. As a platform, it is either a weapons carrier or armored personell carrier.
