What, in your opinion, is the coolest gear loadout used by some sort of special operations police? Here are some Australian police kitted up to respond to a suspected terror threat.Any ideas as to why they would be issued camo uniforms despite police usually being deployed in urban environments doing quick response stuff? Most other countries use flat colours for their police.
>>64653464camo does kinda say, "We're here to shoot first and ask questions later, so you'd better do as we say."
Because when TAG get deployed, its generally a manhunt for schizos in the outback where camo would be useful. Secondly, Australia has a lot of cross pollination between elite police and Socomd, in some situations the commandos themselves may be deployed in lieu of or in support of TAG (remember, other than the states, only like 3 countries have posse comitas. everybody else is more than happy to deploy the military against civilians), and TAG have a lot of ex-SOF personnel; so the people they train with use multicam and a lot of them already have multicam gear.
>>64653464I'm a firefighter in QLD and I used to be a grunt in the Army. We occasionally see the special cops come to our big training centre to do rapelling on our rope towers and they frequently come in all their gear. These guys are just wearing Ranger Green Crye uniforms but I've seen guys in full multicam before. I'm not sure what the vests are but they kinda look like what our regular Army gets issued except it's in the regular multicam pattern not AMCU.>>64653506I was still in the Army when that guy held those people hostage in the Sydney Lindt Cafe. TAG East were never going to do the hit, they were building mock-ups of the cafe in Holsworthy while negotiations were going down but it was always going to be NSWPol taking the lead. I was literally at Holsworthy when this went down because I was on a tasking at SFTC.
>>64653464They end up in all sorts of places from inner city to bumblefuck nowhere rural areas.and I think they switched over to using cammy's around 2010-ish or about that time. They still have the all-blue onesie overalls, Raptor still uses those fairly much exclusively.
>>64653464>Any ideas as to why they would be issued camo uniformsThe surplus is probably cheaper
Obligatory
USSS Counter-Assault Team have some strong vibes, although in that specific gig they aren't doing much 'Law Enforcement' as 1811s anymore, being more oriented towards EP work.

>>64653464>Any ideas as to why they would be issued camo uniforms despite police usually being deployed in urban environments doing quick response stuff? 1. Law enforcement and military often source their personal gear from the same manufacturers (ex. Delta Force's vests during the 1990s were bought off-the-shelf from TG Faust, which originally made them for use by SWAT teams) and for law enforcement that operate on a comparatively limited budget, it's easier to get the vest and helmet in Multiscam than place a custom order for ones in black or olive drab.2. Starting in 1990, the United States Department of Defense (I'm not calling it the Department of War, eat my ass) instituted the 1033 Program, authorizing the transfer of surplus equipment to law enforcement agencies ranging from helmets to MRAPs and APCs. I don't know if Australia specifically has a similar program, but I'm going to assume that at least some other countries do.3. There's a lot of personnel overlap between SWAT and Special Forces. It's not uncommon for a member of a SWAT team in the United States to have previously served in the military and served in units like the Army Rangers or the Marine Corps Security Force Regiment. Chances are, these guys like to keep using the equipment they're already familiar with.4. As >>64653506 pointed out, law enforcement, particularly Federal agencies in the US like the FBI and DEA, get occasional deployed overseas and are permitted to source military equipment directly for this purpose.
>>64653464there WAS only ever one "tier one" level of poltice tactical unit and that was GIGN.I say was for obvious racial demographics & political reasons. And before you mention SWAT,it's wildly different from state to state also due to racial demographics & political reasons. In fact this logic also applies to current military forces today.
