If you can't carry hollow points, does 45 make sense or it's an obsolete bulky shit regardless?
>>64658865Wait till you find a case of old steel ball from WW2/Korea. Then you will know the true power of .45ACP.
IF IT KILLED THE KRAUTS TWICE OVER THEN IT’LL SUIT YOU FINE. NOTHING QUITE LIKE SLINGING AMERICAN BALLS INTO AN ENEMY HEHEH. GOBBLESSSent using an android phone
>>64658865>If you can't carry hollow pointsYou can carry hollow point .45 if you didn't buy a shit gun.
>>64658968>Sent using an android phoneIs that the one that takes photographs?

>>64658865With non-expanding ammo, I would assume that a bigger hole is better. However, some people might think the extra capacity you get with 9mm is more important. Personally, I don't think capacity actually matters that much for self-defense scenarios once you get past 5 rounds.
Yeah yeah but how true is the fudd lore that tells that a single round of 45 ACP drops any man on earth while multiple torso hits of 9mm can't even stop the attack?
>>64659077Depends on local laws. Hollow points aren't legal in New Jersey, for example.
I read an interview with a kurd contract killer, he recommends .45 over 9 mm since the ball ammo will go trough car doors and reliably kill the driver.
>>64659242I CAN TEST IT ON YOU IF YOU LIKE SONNY
>>64659374>Depends on local laws. Hollow points aren't legal in New Jersey, for example. If you can't carry hollow points for any cartridge, then a larger diameter round is better than a smaller diameter round. Find out if your state allows soft points; they don't expand as much as hollow points, but they do mushroom better than FMJ.
>>64659386Modern 9mm loads that pass the FBI quals do that
Why do people think fmj doesn't kill good?
>>64659515Because of a "study" done back in the 90s I think where they interviewed cops who used .45s. Of course, a cop saying he needed two shots, when the first killed the attacked and the cop fired a second because of panic meant the shooting was listed as "needed multiple shots."
>>64658865>if the effect on target is the same, does significantly more recoil and significantly less capacity make sense? Are you fucking retarded?
>>64659515Bullets kill people primarily through massive internal damage to vitals. Assuming two bullets are the same mass and travelling at the same speed (therefore have the same kinetic energy), the one making a wider hole will still have an advantage, as it will have a larger chance of hitting a vital, and even if it doesn't, the larger hole will desanguinate the target faster.
>>64659579>the same mass and travelling at the same speedthey don't, and while energy is more or ess the same 45acp has more momentum so it "pushes" what it hits more
>>64658865I imagine it sucks getting shot with either of them.
>>64659374Thats why I run Hornady crit defense. Legally the closest thing to a hollow point I can use
>>64659719>they don't, and while energy is more or ess the same 45acp has more momentum so it "pushes" what it hits moreI wasn't answering the 9mm vs. .45 debate in that comment. The guy I was responding to, >>64659515, was asking why some people find FMJ inferior to HP, and I answered his question in >>64659579.
>>64659788oh yeah sorry>>64659515well FMJ tend to zip through when you are in the ballpark of 9mm and up energy wise, so HP are regarded as superior because they literally cause more carnage and still are capable to reach vital organs.FMJ is better in lesser powered rounds like .380 and lower though.FMJs out of powerful pistol calibers are in general a waste because you can't reach those crazy rifle velocities where FMJs do crazy shit when they hit the target such as tumbling or even fragmenting>>64659414IDK how much a 45ACP soft point would expand, considering how slow it is.If it would be a .357 Magnum SP out of a 6" barrel, well now we're talking
9mm is the john wick reddit rentoid NPC pistol chambering.
>>64658865Nah just carry 2mm AM rounds. One is enough to annihilate anything and everything in a 5-meter radius, but be aware that the magnetic containment can fail if subjected to fields in the decatesla range or higher. Only buy high quality ammo!
>>64660005The rounds are designed to expand at lower velocities, I remember MAC testing .45 ACP against .45 Super and the higher velocity actually led to worse performance
>>64660027Is it? It was so bad that in the third film he had to upgrade to 9mm Major and then switch to a shotgun when the 9mm Major failed too.
>>64659515because I've shot people with them and they don't. Hollow points dump energy as opposed to zipping through.
>>64658865It's still shit.
>>64660208Skill issue
>>6465886545 Super is close enough to non-boutique 10mm ballistics. Worth consideration in low capacity states.
>>64659515They do when they hit something that matters. Expanding rounds just do more whether they hit something important or not. Ball isn't really particularly good at anything ballistically. Heavy flatnose projectiles penetrate and carry momentum better. Expanding or fragmenting projectiles dump energy better. They're cheap tho.The main problem with .45 as a duty caliber isn't ammo so much that its offer less rounds and slower followup shots for minimal benefit. Cue the muh diameter sperging.
>>64660038This is underappreciated and really important to consider for people who claim to care about ballistics. Expanding projectiles have a velocity range where they will perform optimally and the majority of .45 projectiles are designed for typical loads. Most projectiles with wide ranges of possible loads have these issues. 10mm is a big offender here.

You know someday the gun Community is going to realize there's a meaningful difference between round nose FMJ and flat nose fmj. I'm not going to tell you what it is but it's there, and I await General Enlightenment so I can have conversations Beyond educating others. I'm tired.
>>64660905Are you referring to the idea that a flat-nosed bullet will do more damage by not cutting as clean a hole as a round-nosed bullet?
