Because Olympic shooting is min/maxing: the sport. All these tiny things like magnified shooting glasses, weak eye eyepatches, stiffened shooting jackets, weighted guns, 1oz trigger, and whatever are to try and get you in the 10 ring instead of the 9 ring as often as possible. A normal shooter shooting a centerfire caliber wouldn't even notice most ot this because the benefits are so small, but when you have people at this high a skill level competing trying to beat the tiniest margins then all this crap might give you that little advantage to get 10 10s instead of 9 10s.
