With what we see with the cuck sheds welded onto tanks to try and counter cheap drones is it safe to say that the age of the tank is over?
What crucial combat role do modern tanks fill that justifies this huge investment when all it takes is a drone or RPG to get rid of it?

When you're not having a smoking accident in a Russian tank then there is actually a good chance of "destroyed" tanks getting towed back to base and put back together.

/k/opers will tell you that tanks are still viable when in reality they’re not. Grey zones in actual conflicts span around 30 km, with all fog of war lifted sending a tank anywhere is just asking for it to be destroyed before it ever has any impact on the battlefield.

That €400 Ali express drone whacks €4.000.0000 US tank with ease and if it doesn’t, just send two. Or three. Or four. It doesn’t matter, spam this shit.

In fact, these days it is more economical to produce a tank and blow it up right after it leaves the assembly line. This at least saves you the training the crew, the costs of transportation, ammunition, gas etc.

Also all new tank production is jus kept alive to keep these plants running and provide jobs for an electorate that elects the decision makers that keeps the plants open. It’s socialism 101.

Also ask yourself this: If you would create an army from scratch, would tanks be part of it? If the answer is yes, your IQ is lower than 85.

You heard it first here, folks. Infantry is also obsolete because of bullets.

Tank is obsolete. That's why we always get multiple threads to educate us about the latest chink tank and how implessive it is

>is it safe to say that the age of the tank is over?
No. It's just the Russian tanks that are going extinct.
>What crucial combat role do modern tanks fill that justifies this huge investment when all it takes is a drone or RPG to get rid of it?
The current situation on the frontlines of the war in Ukraine is because of Russias inability to perforrn on land, in air and at sea.
Turning their few remaining tanks into cuck sheds is their way to cope, not a new military paradigm.

MBTs are obsolete and an evolutionary dead end, just like the infantry tanks or heavy tanks of old. But medium, hybrid infanty-carrying tanks will take its niche, favoring lower cost, high speed, lightweight, stealth, sensors and networking, and BVR missiles/drones as their main weapons. The tank gun will shrivel to 35-40 mm autocannons as secondary self defence weapons.
