People really just think his designs are spontaneous and pulled from the ether, because for them that's probably how all their thoughts are, but there's always a clear conceptual provenance and line of reasoning behind them; provided you're able to visualize a turning apple in your mind.

John Browning has no equal. He propelled firearms forward by a century or more all within a couple decades. Imagine being able to say “I invented gas operation. I invented the pistol.”The pistol (pretty much the entire category of handguns) has been largely unchanged since the 1911. The only real difference is polymer frames (didn’t exist in Browning’s day), double stack mags (he was working on the double stack hi-power when he died) and striker fired actions. Even with the benefit of a century of foresight, there is very little browning could have done differently, because he got it right the first time. That’s what genius is.Kellgren makes interesting guns, but they ultimately fall in the category of “different for the sake or being different.” Not necessarily better and certainly not revolutionary. though in his defense, it’s hard to revolutionize an extremely mature product category.
