I can't make it in the real world, Anons. I am an utter fuckup, no gf, no job, couldn't finish high school. I figure I can't fuck up as a grunt being told what to do.

1) What branch, and why?
2) I'm 35, will they still take me?
3) What should I know beforehand?

Thanks
>>

>2) I'm 35, will they still take me?
no
there is a slight chance in hell they will take someone old despite their age but they want useful people. not you
>>
>>64682410
>35
nope
>>
>that CV
Yeah nah sorry dawg but you just straight fucked your only chance at life
>>
>>64682410
>I figure I can't fuck up as a grunt being told what to do
You sound like someone I would absolutely and totally hate to deploy with, if you fuck up everything you do just by being you then yes, you'd fuck up being a grunt as well.
>>
>>64682455
It's called a "resume" in america, faggot. Here's my "CV":
>trades
>trades
>trades
>office tradie
>trades trades
>assistant project manager
>project manager

Fuck you. I can take orders, doesn't afraid of death, and shoot better than you. Suck my cock. private.

If I didn't have parents who loved me and siblings who cared, I'd consider doing something dangerous for money but not kms. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Literally the civilian, larper, war movie understanding of the military ever. You're so far removed from that world you don't know how embarrassing you look to even think those are defining traits. Stay out lol, please, don't make other people suffer your presence in high stress environments.

Except they don't because you come across as a total dickhead and they clearly gave you a shitty upbringing
Consider the following:

I thought you can join the army up to like 40 as long as you are in shape and don't have any health problems. Probably need some kind of waiver. Definitely can not join marines. I know that for sure. Might also be able to go airforce.
>>
I see the appeal of "letting go" of responsibility over your own life, but being contractually obligated to die for Israel isn't the way.
Do peace corps or something
>>
>>64682410
>>64682509
You're the sort of delusional loser that would get their teeth knocked out in an actual unit if you didn't get filtered by infantry school.

I too have fucked up pretty much every aspect of my life as well, I'm also 35. Can't even blame my parents, they did a good job, I'm just a headstrong dumbass.
What I'm getting at is we need to find meaning and find joy in the things we are competent or skilled at.
You seem soft hearted, don't join the military
>>
>>64682509
get a ged and some kind of cert/license and then just lie if you're insecure about it
had a friend that did it as a hs dropout in his late 20s

>2) I'm 35, will they still take me?
yes you can still enlist in the us air force, us space force, or us navy.
the fact that you had to ask 4channers instead of google or a recruiter shows that you have deep-seated confidence problems.
oh well, print this out so if anyone gives you shit, you can show them i told you it's okay.
>>
>>64682410
It's worth a try. But I don't like your chances.
>>
>>64682691
Well he has admitted to failing in life repeatedly, I doubt he feels like the king, especially because he's interested in signing up at 35
>>
I'm in the same boat OP, but I'm only 27... Just kinda failed at every level of life. I blame my parents who are enablers. Did a little construction but never did anything particularly stable. I have so many hobbies but never settled on a single thing that I wanted to commit my life to.

My dad is retired Army and has said I would make a terrible soldier, but maybe that's almost a source of spite to prove him wrong.

I wish I had a good answer. I feel too soft to join the military, but maybe I need to lose some innocence to actually figure life out and progress. Don't know where I'm going with all this.

Anyways, life is hard. Men are being tested right now. Don't kill yourself and stay sane, we will need to stick around for when this shit does go sour.
>>
>>64682736
Scratch that, my parents aren't really the enablers, I'm just a piece of shit that couldn't settle on a career. My sister is doing far better than I am, so I don't think the problem is necessarily my parents. Kind of uncalled for to blame them for my situation.
>>
>>64682509
its over bruh
>>
>>64682410
Try Job Corps and Conservation Corps.

They take losers and turn them into not losers.

If they won't take you (obvious drug addict, extremely obese, no clear skills at all), seek help with Salvation Army, any local charity, and local CATHOLIC churches. Avoid the protestants, as they'll use you for free labor and chuck you to the curb. You're not a child, so your odds with the Catholics are way better.

Good luck.

>I blame my parents
Growing up is no longer blaming your parents. You didn't know better at the time, but you have known better for probably at least 10 years. You failed yourself, not your parents failing you.
Only after accepting 100% responsibility for every single minute aspect of your life, can you advance beyond being a peter pan

As a former infantry officer, please, do anything but infantry. Officers and SNCOs spend entirely way too much time dealing with fuckups who are incapable of even the most basic of tasks unless they are directly supervised by their squad leader or platoon sergeant. The infantry needs competent people who are capable of independent thought and action and not fuckups who need constant, direct oversight for every fucking thing. Go supply or logistics or fuel handling or ANYTHING but infantry.

>>64682871
Someone is offended. I'm sorry Mr butter bar
>>
>>64682871
At OCS the retards almost always get force branched Infantry.
>>
>>64682591
Marines age limit is 28, Army is 35, Navy is 41, and Air Force/Space Force is 42. OP can’t be infantry but he can still enlist. I’m older too and considering joining because my civilian job keeps screwing me over a little more every year.
>>
>>64682843
What did you expect it would be? These are 18 year olds who probably would have flunked high school were it not for no child left behind. And the pool of eligible people is shrinking.

If you don't want to deal with retards, you find niche communities within the organization who are smarter. You're the one that joined the army with a degree, albeit more selective than enlisted, but that's not saying much.
>>
>>64682889
Pretty much all the age limits are waiverable with no injury history, there is no age limit for infantry. His bigger issue is no HS Diploma
>>
>>64682887
Source?
>>
>>64682907
NTA but it's near impossible to get fired from the Army. Even if you're a total shitbag you still get paid and you get a roof over your head with healthcare.

In this economy it's not the worst gig.
>>
>>64682863
I’m well aware. Os and SNCOs (who are themselves competent) basically turn into quasi case workers in garrison, to make sure PFC Schmukatelli shows up for his court dates, pays his bills, goes to psych/medical/dental appointments etc etc etc etc. I’m trying to prevent yet another self admitted fuckup from entering the cycle.
>>
>>64682916
What are your thoughts on a NEET going infantry... am i fixable? I at least have none of this baggage like you say
>>
>>64682914
Shit. Deleted the comment because a typo was pissing me off. Thought I'd get it fixed before anyone got back.
That is a good point. I've thought of that before, that you just keep getting more chances unless you've done something really heinous.
>>
>>64682907
Ehh good point but I feel like I could easily just do a four year enlistment, and then get out with GI bill and veteran status to improve my job prospects. My old civilian job will still be there when I’m done anyway.
>>
>>64682906
Experience, the majority of an OCS class will get one of the branches they want. However, when it gets to the bottom of the OML there are typically a few infantry slots left and people WILL be force branched infantry.
>>
>>64682926
>trust me bro I seen it myself
Okay, no source, return to me when you're got something of substance please.
>>
>>64682931

>>
>>64682934
>no evidence to back up my incorrect claim
>gets called out
>HURRR STAY MAAAD
Lol, many such cases.
>>
>>64682919
I still wouldn’t advise it. When you get out, only the intangible skills are transferable to any kind of civilian job, and it isn’t an easy transfer back to civilian life. Unless you want to be a cop or a security guard after you’re done, do something that has a directly transferable skill to the civilian world, like a mechanic. Otherwise, when you get out, unless you make it to 20 years (which at your age is unlikely), you’ll just be back in the same situation.
>>
>>64682948
This.

>be me
>NG
>6 years infantry
>no marketable skills for my resume except for the bullshit "works well in a team" meme
>switch to drones
>get 6 figure job roughly 6 months after completing training
>turns into R&D opportunities
>suddenly qualified for tons of tech jobs in the mil side

Don't regret the infantry stuff, but unless you're prepped to make a career out of it, eventually you'll get out and realize you have nothing special on your resume.
>>
Reminder that if you're joining anything other than the air force or coast guard, you're probably doing something wrong. Army is only acceptable if you truly have some desire to be a soldier.
Do not join the marines or navy under any circumstances.
They all end the same way after 4 years. You won't waltz into a 6 figure job, but you will have GI bill, and a VA home loan.
>>
>>64682410
If you're so tepid and indecisive as a grown ass man that you need total strangers on the internet to tell you what to do with your life then you won't find any solution in the military. Take accountability for your actions and stop trying to be so fucking lazy that you need to crowdsource your life goals.
>>
>>64682410
You will make more money and have more freedom just doing private security. They will literally take anyone with a pulse who can afford an $80 certification course. Many companies even sponsor your course since you're probably retarded and can't even manage that. You just show up, sleep and shit on the job, and go home to your shared room apartment. Better than being crammed in a barracks and being told you can't fap, then having to go die or lose a limb for you-know-whos. Way better opportunities too, you can move up to higher paying stuff like hospital security or executive protection. Nobody actually hires ex military because of how they act, they're a huge liability when their manufactured ego breaks down and they snap with violence.
