Can some revolvers just not take hollow points? I have a snub 38spl that squibs atleast once every box (sometimes once every load) no matter the box or brand, and someone told me it was because of hollow points. Are some revolvers just made for Fmj/ball ammo?

It has a 1.75' barrel but I'm still getting tired of hammering bullets out of it.

If its squibbing either its too low pressure or youve got too big a cylinder gap maybe which would also just cause low pressure, in my humble retard opinion
>>
>>64682450
No, you've got some other sort of problem goin on. The only way i could see a HP design giving a revolver squib issues would be some sort of bizzarro cylinder timing issue. Have you looked at these squib projectiles? are they missing pieces? is the gun throwing abnormal amounts of jacket fragments on firing? even that all doesn't sound right, i cant even imagine the amount of lead youd need to shave to cause a problem like that. Almost certainly got to be an issue with the ammo you're using.
>>
>>64682450
gun's fucked clearly
timing is probably off, if not that then you must have the most blown out gaped cylinder gap ever. your revolver took 100 cocks in college and is ready to settle down now type shit.
>>

>squib
cylinder gap issue
>hollows out of a snubbie
intelligence issue. the velocity just isn't there for a lot of standard and +p ammo out of such a short barrel to expand reliably. semi wadcutter hp would be your best compromise.
>but what about .357
retarded out of such a short barrel/small gun. you're sacrificing accurate followup shots due to a massive increase in recoil for a marginal amount of extra velocity. get some feeler gauges to check your cylinder gap so you can tell the customer service rep how badly out of spec your gun is before sending it in and look into the 158gr "fbi load".
>>
>>64682464
Its all factory ammo, I doubt the pressure is bad.

>>64682476
The bullet is fully intact, even the jacket is fine. I checked the crown, of course. No sign of impact.

>>64682507
>cylinder gap
The gun has barely been fired, you can barely even see light through the cylinder gap if you hold it up to a lightbulb. I couldn't fit the tip of a paperclip through it, I doubt thats a problem
>>
>>64682476
This seems to be the case, but at the same time feels unlikely. Multiple cases of Hornady, federal, speer, all just... bad? If so, where would I even find bullets that work?
>>
>>64682538
How many HP loads have you tried? not different boxes but different manufacturers/lots. Anything other than an ammo related cause is exponentially more unlikely. To be clear, the "hp squib snubbies" thing is completed hogwash on the level of suggesting that putting ketchup on a steak will result in an explosion. Whoever said that either got it from a complete retard or wildly misunderstood what was being said.
>>
>>64682564
Thank you for your response.
I've tried 3 loads from 3 companies, composed of around five boxes. Hornady, federal, and speer.

Your gun is fucked
>>
>>64682450
Either gun’s the problem or defective ammo
>>
>>64682595
Is the that you are using old and beat to hell or new and just defective
>>
What brand and model of revolver OP?

>>64682538
>>64682562
>>64682595
Anon, Federal might make weak as hell ammo for the 10mm and .40 S&W, but their 9mm and .38 spl is famous for their consistency. Unless you bought a super expensive hand-fit revolver from a company like Spohr or Korth, then you have to consider that your brand-new gun could possibly come defective. Listen to the people talking about the cylinder gap, or try and shoot tons of FMJ to see if the problem persists, it's more likely that the cylinder gap people are right.

poster you replied to:

At that point it's definitely time to get the manufacturer of the firearm involved, there's some bizarro level shit going on with the gun. That isn't just unusual firearm behavior, I cant think of a single time i've even heard of a gun only causing squibs with HPs and doing so reliably with bad ammo being ruled out as the cause and I've been pretty into this shit for 20 yrs plus. HP feed issues are one thing but reliable squibs is another thing entirely. I'd be curious to hear what they find. I would also suggest being very clear with the manufacturer as to the nature of the issue and that it is consistent across multiple brands of HPs. They will assume that you are being retarded in one fashion or another for the simple reason of how unlikely that is to be caused by the gun as opposed to ammo. Do you know the specific ammos you've tried? Were there any similarities across them, even that might seem irrelevant? perhaps them all being the same pressure, all being solid copper projectiles, all being designs with exposed lead at the tip(common with revolver JHPs), or something like that? This is a real novel head scratcher of a situation

I'm bringing it to a reputable gunsmith tomorrow (it has a squib I can't get out) and I'll ask them to examine it and tell me what they think. If the thread is still up tomorrow I'll tell you what they find out.
>>
>>64682776
Timing or forcing cone or both is fucked.
>>
You guys are replying to a bot thread started with a stock image. The OP owns no gun or he would've posted it or at least told us the make/model, but OP owns no gun because he isn't a human being.
>>
>>64682784
>stock image means bot thread
Retard
>>
>>64682784
Make your own thread and you can post your guns all you like.

What would the nefarious jew get from making a thread like this, anyway?
>>
>>64682784
Exactly, if someone is having a real problem the details are in the OP, if its a bot engagement thread they bread crumb vague details and shoot down every suggestion you make no matter how valid in order to drive the conversation forward.

Well OP, if you're human, you can check the cylinder gap with copy/printer paper. You should be able to squeeze no more than two sheets of paper into the cylinder gap. If you can get three or more sheets of paper to squeeze in there it's fucked.

If you're a bot

JFC, do any of you know how big the cylinder gap would have to be (with a snubby no less) to cause a squib? There'd be a goddamn fireball and lead and shit spraying everywhere before he got close to a gap that big. We're talking about a gap so big that even a casual shooter would look at it and be like, "What the fuck happened here?"

>>64682450
OP, your gun is fucked. I'm assuming that you got it used or you'd be taking this up with the manufacturer instead of us, so yeah, it needs to go to a gunsmith. I don't know what the seller told you about it but I hope that they mentioned that it's fucked, and priced it accordingly.
