I can't think of much worse suck than having to ride horses, in winter, in a shooting war and then someone has made a buzzy flying bomb that's indirectly made to annoy the fuck out any horse just by the noise alone.
Just fly that near horses and they'll go nuts, do random horse things which aren't good for anyone

Were these war horses used for patrolling the front lines or as transports at the end of supply lines?

nobody's charging into enemy positions anymore most of the time. they're infiltrating forward, trying to find a path not covered by the enemy, to establish their own positions from which they can intercept enemy rotations and resupply.

if an attack happens it's usually against isolated and cut off enemy holdouts from forward positions like this
