8mm Mauser because I’m really stoked on all things German these days.But even in normal times, like I posted in the last 30-06 vs 8mm Mauser thread, the differences between them are minimal and largely trivial, but I would prefer the 8mm Mauser solely for its slightly longer bullets. Other than that, the difference is a few mm case length, few mm overall length, and 2 or 3 human hairs difference in caliber.If 30-06 looked more like picrel (308 loaded to ~3” COAL), I’d change my mind.

For me, I think that for most purposes, a .25-.30 caliber bullet is more than sufficient for terminal effect, superior for exterior ballistics, and if I want a larger bullet for brush busting or dangerous game, I'm going to want a .35-.40 caliber like .375 Ruger, 9.3x62, or .404 Jeffery. So I would choose .30-06 over 7.92x57 every time.
