I need a safe for muh gunz. It needs to be able to be wall stabilized or not a tipping hazard. Needs to be able to fix six rifles, and around a dozen pistols. Other room for bullshit like mags and ammo, and bullion would be ideal. It doesn't need to be high end, it's quite literally only being purchased so small children cannot access it with ease. I am not worried about burglars.

I've never seen a gun safe that was good at stopping burglars, but many people like to buy a safe that would protect their valuables in case of a flood or a fire. While I can't shill you any brand, my advice is to buy a safe that is a little larger than you currently need in case you ever need to buy a seventh rifle or another handgun.

There are basically 3 types of safes to consider, all with their own pros and cons. Which one to go for depends on your needs, budget and preference.

>Cheap ass cabinets.
These are like the $100 stack-on key safes you see at sporting goods stores. They offer pretty much zero real security or fire protection but they do contain everything in one place, keep kids/nosy guests out and cops can't open/search them without a warrant.
On the bright side they are lightweight enough to easily move in/out easily if you need to move. Because they are so thin they also have relatively good capacity for their size. If you need something that's just better than nothing then one of these ticks that box.
>Composite safes.
These are the middle child with the advantages and disadvantages of both. Effectively just sheetrock sandwiched between thin cabinet metal. You want to do some homework on these and not settle for chinkshit. They are heavy enough to be annoying to move, far more expensive than sheet metal cabinets and if made poorly they can still be popped open in 2 seconds with a crowbar. Made properly it'll take at least a few minutes for an under-equipped burglar to get in and they can have some fire protection. Not enough to save your guns if the whole house burns down around it, but potentially enough if the house burns partially before the fire department gets it under control.
I recommend looking at Liberty Safes with an mechanical lock (they gave a backdoor code to the feds who were carrying out a warrant once, so fuck that). They are controversial as a company, but actually make their safes in the US with actual security and fire ratings instead of made up bullshit printed on the label. There might be other US made composite safe company that won't give a backdoor key to the feds on demand, but I don't know who. If somebody wants to chime in I'm all ears.

>Plate steel safes.
These are gigantic monsters made of solid steel. You need to pay actual laborers with heavy duty equipment to move these things so you better only get one if you own the house it's going into. They are great investments, but buying a new one is incredibly expensive.

The big brain move is to get a used one that somebody is trying to get rid of. Like a gigantic piano or pool table they will sell it cheap, free or even pay you to haul it out. After that, have a bonded locksmith change the combination and you're set. Paying full price for one of these things, plus moving and locksmith is dumb if you can get the safe for cheap/free and do a neighbor a favor at the same time.

But you better plan on living wherever you move it to for the rest of your life because moving it again or trying to sell that house with a safe that nobody wants is going to be a huge headache.

>tfw kids break in and steal all your bullion

You stack that much gold on a cheap ass cabinet like that and the shelf will break immediately. That shelf is rated for maybe 15 pounds at the absolute most.

I would hope anyone stacking that much gold could afford a better safe

Honestly, I'd probably give them an escudo each that they can hold onto when they come over if they want (it's my nephews). But I know how retarded kids are, and they aren't taking them home to lose. The safe is really because their mothers don't like guns, and they aren't comfortable with me watching them until the guns are in a safe. I kinda think that's ridiculous because I can just throw them into my attic in locked Pelicans, but apparently that's not good enough and they want them in a safe. I'm fine with doing that to keep my brothers and my nephews happy, the wives... different story.

They're my sister's in law, and they are both not fine with me watching my nephews at my house because GUNZ R BAD and fine. They're terrified of something insane happening, I get it. It's hysterical, but I can eat the money if it makes them chill.

You would think so, but you'd also be surprised. There was an Asian techie in California who invested like ~200k in NODs, plates and various gucchi tier non compliant guns only to stuff all of them under his bed while renting a bedroom that didn't even have a lock so his crazy ass dysfunctional landlords could waltz in anytime.
Sure enough they had a domestic, cops got called and found everything this guy had during a safety sweep even though he wasn't involved in the situation. The crazy meth smoking property owners kept being crazy mutually abusive shit stains with no consequences but their tenant got to be nogunz4lyf because he didn't spring for at least a $200 stack-on cabinet.

Or, you know, maybe an apartment of his own where he wasn't sharing a roof and beholden to violent drug addicts. Crazy thing is that I knew a guy who was living exactly like that for like 5 years with his deranged schitzo cat lady landlord threatening to call the cops on him every other day until he wised the fuck up. He seriously could have bought a condominium, inflated California real estate prices and all with the money he spent on guns that were at risk of getting confiscated any second. Based but not smart.

A sheet metal gun cabinet is the cheapest option and don't bother putting ammo and other shit in it, get a sturdy shelf and use ammo cans.

Whatever safe you get… buy a wifi connected door sensor and put it inside the safe… then load the app on your phone. I did that on mine and mines in my garage. I’m the only one who should be opening my safe, so if that alarm goes off I’m calling the cops then opening the garage door remotely.. more realistically, if one of my kids gets bored enough to play “guess the password” I’ll know if they get it right. Change the battery every year preemptively… Cheap security for what it is.
