>>64692922>they date back to the Spanish American WarReminder there is a great book about this war available for free download on gutenberg.org, "The Gatlings at Santiago". It was written by Lt. John H. Parker, the commander of the first official machine gun unit of the US armed forces. If Parker and his unit hadnt acquitted themselves so brilliantly in that war, earning the highest praise from later-to-be-president Roosevelt himself, military history might have taken a very different turn. It is a great book, as informative as it is readable and entertaining. Parker has some amusing insights about the Cuban native soldiers that would prevent that book from ever getting published nowadays, LOL
