Last time on /gq/, I tore Militech a new ass. Anons debated on whether the Hesco 4601 or REV. G ESAPI is a better deal. Gilliam changed the specs on the 9969 Level IV plate five times. I really like my Protech 2230s, anons realized the NIJ's BFD limit of 44mm is kinda bad and CAPs really need to make their way to the US. Actually, they did, you can buy them from Aliexpress, AA Shield, or Ars Arma right now. Also the Gilliam 8002 is still on sale for $314 a plate and provides XSAPI+ protection on a /pfg/ budget. If you want maximalist, there you go.

Somebody but me posted that. Damn. I'll be making a Militech infographic soonish.

The serial number of the plate on their page is listed in the NIJ recall

That's evidence #1. #2 is that they were also selling the 3410, 3610, 4400, and 4600 in large quantities. Those are the four models that were NIJ-suspended, revoked permanently, and then recalled in large numbers. A lot of the recalled plates were privately-owned, so Botach is being very shady when they're calling them "police trade-in."
Working theory is that someone at Hesco sold them out the back door, Botach bought them up in 2020-2021, waited for the warranties to expire, and is now selling them with no ballistic guarantee since they're expired. Keep in mind the LTC 26605 has been suspended twice, but LTC was able to resolve the issue and get the plate reinstated. Hesco was never able to do the same with these four plates, so there are issues that extend beyond just the "problem" batch with the naughty serial numbers and poorly heat-treated ceramics. Same deal with the OG RMA 1155.

I think it's AI slop.

I agree. AI op pics make the thread go fast as fuck though.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did get a good deal on some agencies dumping them but buying them from Hesco for pennies is also very likely.

The timing, IMO, doesn't add up for agencies dumping them recently. This was half a decade ago and the NIJ failures were extremely publicized. I think PDs would replace them immediately, given the NIJ letters, and we know Botach has at least one of the recalled 4600s. To this day you can't even bring up Hesco without having to address their past four FIT failures, a record. When Hesco recalled the plates, they offered upgrades. 3610s were bumped to 3810s, for example. Who would refuse that deal? IIRC 4400 guys got 4401s or 4400MCs, 4600s got 4601s and 3410s got 3411s. Additionally, it's an insurance requirement for a lot of outfits to have presently certified armor, so there would be an additional incentive to boogie on replacing plates.
Not to drag Hesco through the mud. Their current lineup is rock solid with the exception of the 4800. It's too light on drop protection, but most IVs in that weight class have that same problem. It was originally meant for a go-fast FBI req and was originally black-side, so that's IMO excusable. 4403 is the best budget IV unless you want to gamble on Gilliam or policesurp Protech 2230s. 4601 is a solid generalist. Hesco's SRTs are best in the biz. 3811 is the lightest white-side III+ / RF2.
