How do we have an air force and whatever the guys who shoot the ICBMs are? The constitution doesn't mention airforce or space force, it mentions Army, Navy and Militia. Shouldn't the air force, the ICBMs dudes and space force be divisions of the navy like the marines are? There are no limitations on the navy. Article I section 8 clause 13 just says>To provide and maintain a Navy;and then doesn't elaborate

>>64694607The air force was part of the army at the start of the cold war, but they kept having to compete for budget with tanks and artillery and other shit; and it was recognized that your strategic bombers who will be delivering the crucial nukes that will open a hot exchange shouldn't have to deal with that shit, so they split them off and gave them their own pocket money. Space force similarly are recognized to have responsibilities that will expand vastly in the next half century, so they'd have to split off at some point; so they did it now rather than wait.
