I am trying to draw a cowboy type of guy with a S&W 29 magnum pistol thing, but I dont know how experienced shooters typically hold and shoot it. Can you guys give me some references if you happened to own this gun?I know its probably a meme gun in the gun community but its so cool
>>64702048Actual cowboys preferred single-action revolvers because those were safer to use on horseback, and double-actions of the era were not very reliable. The Colt Single-Action Army and it's various derivatives were designed for exactly that purpose. The "plow" shaped grip is designed to rotate in the shooter's hand under recoil. This lets you shoot the gun one-handed while you are using the other hand to control your horse. Double-action revolvers were not preferred by cowboys because you could inadvertently shoot it by squeezing the trigger accidentally, which is easy to do while you're riding a galloping horse. A single-action had to be manually cocked before you could shoot it which was safer. If you want details on exactly how they held and aimed the gun from horseback go read Sixguns by Elmer Keith, it describes all of that.S&W 29 is a modern double-action revolver, not a cowboy gun. Just about any modern source talking about revolver shooting would be relevant for it. If you want cool references go watch Dirty Harry. If you want more high-speed low-drag tactical sort of stuff go watch Jerry Miculek shoot. Hickock45 on Youtube has a bunch of videos with his model 29.
