Hey /K/, I’m an American who’s lived in Paraguay for about half of my life on and off. After a lot of thought I’m planning on moving there after college to set up a house and live there permanently. I’ve owned guns in the states for a couple of years now but don’t have nearly as much experience with gun ownership over there. Anybody over there willing to fill me in on what it’s like? I’m more or less familiar with how the laws operate on getting a license to buy and carry. More-so curious on availability on various firearms and ammunition that would be easily to find in the states. The last gun store I visited had Berettas and Glocks in the thousands of dollars, not exactly ideal if I actually end up using one for self defense and have it locked up as evidence.

Tldr: What do you PYfags use for self defense and what are the most common, fairly reliable firearms to obtain over there.

Does Paraguay have electricity?

Is that in whatever dumb currency they use, or USD? You should probably try to figure out if its possible for you to bring your personal guns from the states (if you have any) and bring them over.

1. Generally speaking SA countries don't allow particulars to import firearms, you need to be an authorized company, you're wasting time if you intend to import your firearms, there're short term permits for hunters but it's for very limited time.
2. the easiest way to know what is allowed is just check websites of local gunshops
3. Generally speaking SA countries only allow FMJ and sub-9mm pistol calibers, anything else is banned except for Uruguay that legalized anything below .50 BMG (with restrictions of SA and tl;dr)

Yeah it’s pretty shitty. Importing is totally off the table so I’m limited to whatever is available there. Even new cheapshit like taurus is twice what it would cost in the U.S. There’s still a market for secondhand items, otherwise everything else on the websites is turkish shotguns and iffy glock clones. There’s also the option of obtaining firearms illegally, but I don’t see how it would be worth it. At least not before I get a feel for my surroundings. Anyway I won’t be living in Asuncion or Ciudad del Este, so less of a chance to get shanked on the street. Somewhere in the country close to family sounds way better.
