From the news reports, it seemed easy and quick. When Afghanistan fell. There was a Marine MEU in Kuwait standing by, as QRF. The ARG without the Marines and a CGS was off the coast of Pakistan. The MEU flew in on USAF transports to take over the Kabel Airport. Biden later changed the evacuation of the embassy to a "humanitarian evacuation", and that is when the shitshow started. A US Army Airborne Brigade was flown in to reinforce the Marines. Many of our so called allies also wanted to send in their troops to close down their embassies, so the whole thing turned into a shitshow. So, it seems like it all depends on what the higher authorities want to do. Usually, the Marines will be ordered to close down the Embassy and GTFO, when a country starts to turn to shit. Doing it early is obviously better than doing it too late.
