were important because every naval maneuver was planned with the consideration "what if a battleship shows up?".there werent many grand battleship engagements but that was on purpose because every side planned around them, an in effect battleships shaped every naval action
>>64706077Well yeahAnd they remained relevant until about 1960 when the A-6 Intruder and Blackburn Buccaneer finally made carriers not completely helpless at night / fogNice pic; uncommon to see a Nelrod's AA fit up close
cope, all they were good for was lethargic shore bombardment and friendly fire on US marine positions.
>>64706077The only real counter to another battleship that was at sea was another battleship if the USS Johnston wasn't available.
>>64706183hindsight is 20 20, but at the time they were a fear in the back of everyone's mind now that youre grown up youre not afraid of the dark but when you were a kid you were scared to take out the trash after 7pm
>>64706077>being an AA gunner on top of the main battery when it does a full broadsideWhat does your ears look after that?
>>64706077They were important because they already existed and so naturally they were used where possible. Few were built and commissioned during the war itself, and those were ships already laid and and/or paid for. Numerous countries canceled planned ships.
>>64706077I love her so much it's unreal
>>64706077Nelson class?
>>64706183>lethargic shore bombardmentGermans in normandy would disagree
>>64706271They weren't' maned when main guns were firing, you'd literally die from pressure
>>64706183The tirpitz literaly had alied carrier keep away from GERMANY
>>64706515NTA but im curious about this, please explain
>>64706515>>64706528It's some ESL cope slop are you retarded?
>>64706533yeah im retarded, and? are you going to cry about it? I want to hear more, let people enjoy things sweatie
>>64706515I don't think Germany's biggest problem was some carrier raids.Tirpitz tied up a few allied battleships that otherwise weren't going to be doing much anyway. She then took herself out of the war by putting so many defenses around that she wasn't going to sortie anyway. It's actually crazy that the Kriegsmarine even tried anything with battleships. The Imperial Germany Navy failed to win with a massive fleet, what the hell did Raeder think he would achieve with a *maximum* of four?
