What the fuck is the point of Hell Week in 2026(formerly 2025), Delta and Rangers don't have Hell Week yet they seem fine.
Bigger culture shock. Army basic is already a diet infantry course, and most attendees to Ranger school are infantry anyway, especially the straight-out-of-training ones. Anyone going into Delta almost certainly already came out of Special Forces, which DOES have Selection, which begins in much the same way. It's a very simple WAKE THE FUCK UP, THIS IS WHAT YOU SIGNED UP FOR, IF YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO THE CUSHY BOTE JOB, NOW'S THE TIME TO SAY SO.

>>64708351Frogmen are gonna frogmen.
>>64708351SEALs are basically condensed ego. Fuckers make the Marines seem quiet and unassuming. Of course they have to do the Toughest And Most Dangerous Thing to make themselves feel special, even if it doesn't have any real effect on their performance.
>>64708351Weeds out shitbags who can't endure hardship. You want guys who are going to keep putting one foot in front of the other no matter what.Ranger school is for building leadership. Delta measures self motivation.
>>64708648Trauma based training is shit, makes me want to shoot everyone in the back.
Rangers have Cole Range, which is basically the same thing.
>>64708671You wouldn't make it.
>>64708351every spec ops unit has their own special flavor of washout/filtering. Hell week is just a naval version of it for example>>64708671is exactly the type of person JSOC does not want
Boot, ranger, selection, seal school are all different strengths of being exhausted, cold, hungry, and made to do pointless tasks without losing your wits and will. Its not to see if you can, but if you will. They can work on the can part later. After they filter out all the people who aren't willing to be miserable and be an adult about it.
>>64708648Ranger school is for shit. I've known multiple aviation officers who went as butter bars, just because they wanted promotion advantage. They were dirtbags and clueless outside of an apache otherwise. If anything in ranger was actually useful or necessary. Every bn, at least, would have mtoe slots for rangers in the s3/HQ
>>64708351Delta has their own selection that makes more sense for the type of unit that they're trying to maintain.(From what I hear) At every stage of Delta selection, the proctors collect data of candidates and ask themselves internally "If I die, would this man get the job done?" in other words "Would I die for this man?" And that's it, that's the only real metric they give a fuck about
>>64708691>(From what I hear)
>>64708696I know, I know hearsay doesn't mean shit but I'm not going to LARP as CAG for internet points
>>64708684You're be cold and exhausted at BUD/S but not hungry. They feed you 3 a day, 4 if you're doing things at night, plus snacks.
>>64708696NTA, but frankly just ask yourself this: Who is the group of bigger egocentric retards? Delta or SEALs? My theory with SEALs is that others are happy to feed into the Navy's delusions just so that they don't shit up the other Tier 1 groups. Basically a retard containment program.
>>64708671It's a rite of passage that simulates the hardship of combat. Don't be a faggot.
>>64708351Homosexuals think being gay make them stronger when it's just erotic roleplay they enjoy
>>64708794male bonding is core to the military experience
>>64708351Seals recruit directly off the street, so they need a more robust filter. Most other equivalent units already have an idea of your suitability from your unit before you even go to selection, seals have to figure you out on the fly.
>>64708671>t. ngmi
>>64708351I have a feeling without Hell Week SEALs would be even less disciplined.
>>64708375this
>>64708671>Trauma based training is shit, makes me want to shoot everyone in the back. It's a filter and you're the person it's designed to filter. So am I for that matter so don't take it personally but they don't want people like us.Now if you're a 15yo edgelord who thinks "I'd punch the drill sergeant" then that goes double for you. They need something that's a hard trial to pass because they want people who see hard things as challenging rather than off-putting. The (wannabe-)alpha types embrace difficult and dangerous activities as proof of how badass they are, that's the kind of people they want and so this gets them that.Trauma based training isn't really a big deal because these people are already traumatised by such things, or they won't be traumatised by it.And if they are, they wash out and the problem solves itself.
>>64708351larping
>>64708945>Seals recruit directly off the street, so they need a more robust filterHell Week has existed since WW2, before they started doing SEAL contracts.
Seals are the only SF you can directly apply to as a civilian, the others require you're already serving. So they have Hell week to weed people out
I dont get why people want to be the expendable wagie with a rifle. Wouldn’t you rather be a real life mecha protagonist?
>>6470992718X, option 40, 0321 contract, whatever AFSOC has going on
>>64708371>It's a very simple WAKE THE FUCK UP, THIS IS WHAT YOU SIGNED UP FOR, IF YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO THE CUSHY BOTE JOB, NOW'S THE TIME TO SAY SO.This.It's a filter for mental fortitude, nothing else.Better realize you cannot take it now than when lost in enemy territory because intel fucked up.
>>64708728Regular SEALs aren't even tier 1. It does lead one to scratch one's head and wonder what they even actually do. If it's something actually important either DEVGRU or CAG is going to get the job, like Maduro getting snatched for instance. The leftover SEAL teams just seem like a light infantry UW unit that doesn't do anything all that different from any other SOF unit that also happens to have UDT capability that hasn't been relevant in practice in decades.
>>64708728SEALs' biggest problems, speaking as a neverserved layman so take that as you will, is the amount of media attention and positive recognition from the '80s to '00s. It started attracting many of poor character, more interested in bragging rights than actual good work being done, and there was no mechanism in place to weed them out (unlike, say, the Green Berets, who can choose not to pass you for any reason, usually character-based ones, even if you finish SFAS)With such people institutional rot begins, and can be very hard to cut out. At least DEVGRU filters them, although they have their own problems
What about pararescue?
>>64708351Delta don't like to be near other shirtless men because it's kinda gay. Also they lose their lone wolf bonuses.
>>64709962Their area of specialty is anything to do with water, but since that's fairly niche and doesn't come up very often other than maritime infil, they do regular direct action so that they don't just sit around waiting for the singular time in their careers that a ship needs to be boarded or an oil rig is attacked by terrorists
>>64709927MARSOC and Tier 1 are the only ones were you can't sign up for right after high school.
>>64709992I was listening to Dale Comstock and he said only 6 guys out of 100 passed OTC. Only 3 of them were selected to go to Delta.... Imagine all that effort and you don't get selected. Fucking hell.
>>64708351One specops team has to be a visible meme to shade the real ones.
>>64711188Interesting, do you have a link to that?I assumed that by the time you got to OTC, they pretty much decided "we want this guy", and you'd get in as long as you were able to complete the course
>>64711188That ain't so bad considering that those who go to Delta selection are already career soldiers while some SEAL candidates come directly from the streets. Imagine fantasizing about being a commando only to fail and being locked in a four year contract scrubbing decks.
>>64708671sounds like it filtered you effectively, maybe stick to flipping burgers or working in excel?
>>64711234https://youtu.be/fwaTxPi-cFk?si=B5dp4RnKGTEZzo21&t=134
>>64708351The point is to have obedient goy piggies that will happily shoot anyone or anything you point them at. Basically glorified pitbulls. Expendable assets that don't complain about being expendable assets and in fact will take massive pride in it.
>>64711188>>64711253People forget that it's not just about the physicality or mental endurance, it's also about being the guy that makes the right decisions at the right time. A good soldier with bad judgement is a bad soldier, and it's typically easier to turn the right person into the right soldier than it is the other way around.
>>64708728>Who is the group of bigger egocentric retards? Delta or SEALs?I’ve never met a Delta guy as far as I know, but I’ve met plenty of Green Berets and SEALs. In my personal experience, both organizations have their fair share of borderline-psychopathic narcissists with massive egos because those traits are advantageous during the selection process. Here are just a few of the things that were going on with the SF guys I knew:>everyone was using anabolic steroids habitually >at least half of the guys were active cocaine users>fucking other SF dude’s wives was fairly common>fucking escorts/prostitutes was fairly commonAnd that’s just the stuff that I knew about as an outsider. Don’t get me wrong, these guys are impressive in the field and good at what they do. They’re also abrasive assholes who are generally unpleasant to be around.
>>64708351Are you implying that "welcome to the salty spitoon how tough are ya" isn't the ideal special operations selection process?
>>64708351The main purpose of the Navy SEALs isn't to create an effective naval infantry special forces branch. it's a PR campaign to pad navy recruiting numbers. They get tons of kids off the street to enlist for 4 years with a promise that they'll have a shot at becoming a SEAL, easily 5-10x as many as they actually need. They then systematically wash them out so they can reassign the washouts to the shittiest jobs in the navy like scraping paint for the remainder of their enlistment.
