Long-Range Layer: S-300VM (Antey-2500)
The most capable system in the inventory, capable of engaging aircraft and ballistic missiles at ranges up to 250 km.
Primary batteries were stationed at Capitan Manuel Rios Airbase to protect the capital.

Medium-Range Layer: Buk-M2E and S-125 Pechora-2M
Buk-M2E: A mobile system designed to intercept high-speed targets; at least one unit was confirmed destroyed by U.S. strikes in January 2026.

Pechora-2M: Heavily upgraded Soviet-era systems used for point defense of critical infrastructure like oil facilities.

Short-Range & MANPADS: Igla-S and Pantsir-S1
Igla-S: Venezuela possesses an estimated 5,000 of these man-portable systems, which remain a threat to low-flying helicopters .

Pantsir-S1: Recently delivered by Russia in late 2025 to bolster point defense against precision-guided munitions.

Electronic Warfare (EW):
The network included Russian-made radar arrays and Chinese communication relays to create a contested electromagnetic environment.

JY-27A "Wide Mat" Radar: A long-range, 3D Very High Frequency (VHF) radar with a reported detection range of up to 500 km. Its long-wavelength signals are designed to detect stealth airframes like the F-22 and F-35 by bypassing their radar-absorbent coatings. In 2020 and early 2025, Venezuela claimed this radar successfully tracked U.S. stealth fighters near its borders.

China has supplied advanced command-and-control (C2) and AI-assisted electronic warfare systems intended to jam enemy communications and disrupt precision-guided munitions.

How did the US manage to fly Chinooks to downtown with only one hit from a manpad but no SAMs or AA or hits?

One of helicopters was badly damaged from something in flight. Made it back. 2 injured but seems OK. Only thing that can badly damage an hell without taking it down is the manpad igla. The s300 and BUK would have likely been eliminated first and an hit would likely be an hard kill against an Heli so almost surely manpad as there is no video of flak firing.

Many are claiming that Maduro's vice-president Delcy Rodriguez is now the President. But this is delusional.

Firstly, this is untrue; Maduro is still, according to the PSUV's laws, the lawful President of Venezuela. Delcy simply don't have any powers or rights from the PSUV to rule.

Secondly, the strikes hit the PSUV hard, but it's not a full US deployment, so the PSUV kind of still rule Venezuela and it will block any colloboration attemp with the US of Delcy if she try to do so.

Finally, Trump didn't gave her any legitimacy or right to rule; trump only said that she should as Maduro's VP, submit the US.

But if he give her the legitimacy, she will be removed and blocked by the PSUV's regime, as the PSUV still rule and was beheaded, but not destroyed, by the US military operations.

>>
>>64710855
In this case probably the root cause behind the lack of response was army demoralization or perhaps even having a deal with the US.

But that said, *real* air defense is a very expensive affair. Only a few countries in the world have what I would consider a working AD network. Buying a few capable systems doesn't mean you have a working air defense. You need a fuck ton of them, you need layers, you need redundancy and training.

As for training and tactics, we can look at Ukraine war. Both sides had to learn how to operate AD systems properly and their air defenses suffered heavy attrition in the first months of the war. I'm talking about keeping the strategic systems constantly on the move, keeping the radars turned off until they're necessary and shielding strategic AD systems with tactical ones. Also, learning how to react to specific types of threat, specific munition types (this involves both operator training and targeting software updates).

A common misconception is that a single system like S-400 or Patriot completely closes the sky in the XXX kilometers radius. First of all, the advertised range is in ideal conditions, for high-flying targets. 2) the system will be turned off most of the time (as I mention in the previous paragraph). 3) it can engage only so many targets at once and it also needs reloading. 4) It needs support from additional sensor (e.g. on aircraft) 5) It must be defended by shorter range systems 6) Those systems are mainly supposed to intercept aircraft, large cruise missiles and ballistic missiles (poorly) 7) No AD system has 100% interception rate even for targets it "should" work against.

And I didn't even get into the existence of stealth aircraft and munitions.

BTW, fun fact: in 2022 Ukraine had the fourth biggest AD network in the world. Only the US, Russia and China had more AD systems. They had more strategic SAMs than the rest
of Europe combined (excluding Russia).

Weird semi-related 'tism ramble:
Back during WWII, the German security service/secret police was called the SD.
Since they had very little oversight and basically unlimited power, you'd expect them to just be lazy assholes and send everyone accused of treason or espionage off to the nearest concentration camp.
Shockingly however, they generally didn't. The force was made up largely of older career cops and detectives who took great pride in their work, so they generally did try to carry out serious and somewhat fair investigations.

During all these investigations, the vast majority of reports they received were false, and they were submitted by people who knew that they were actively lying to the SD.
Nearly all of these false tips the SD received were submitted by women, usually wives/fiances trying to get their men imprisoned or executed on false charges.
False tips from women trying to get their romantic rivals, or other people such as random annoying neighbors, etc, killed were also overwhelmingly common.

As far as we know they have two test airframes at Edwards and that’s it, with the one to be used for weapon integration only being delivered in iirc the last six months. They’re years away from being used for anything combat related, because we are not in the sort of desperate situation to be forcing untested aircraft into combat operations.
>>
>>64712718
No need. I bet all of Venezuela's AD systems weren't field deployed.
>>
>>64712767
But also, even if it was operational, there was nothing really super duper special about this operation that couldn’t have been don by F-35’s.
Just like they used super up chinooks and little birds (and probably black hawks but I’ve not seen any footage of them) rather than breaking out the bin Laden special.

Anti aircraft is just vulnerable when owned by shitty militaries that don't do due diligence.

Aircraft can pick and choose where to attack in force to overwhelm spread out AA, they can use test decoys, satillite imagery and sat radar detectors to determine consistent setup locations and range, combined with knowing the land exactly using lidar you can basically decapitate any anti aircraft force.
Dumping reflector strips and decoys into the airspace you can then act with impunity deleting anti aircraft you already preidentified at will, and if the operation is localised into a small area you can overwhelming force delete new threats before they even leave a barn to respond.

If you also use delay tactics after threatening to strike for months by using "I'm not touching you" flights, but then strike hard and fast enough once threat fatigue wears in that will catch them by surprise too.

Over 150 U.S. aircraft — including bombers, fighter jets, intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft — launched from 20 different bases on land and sea into Venezuela.

U.S. helicopters took off with an extraction force. Those forces were protected by F-22s, F-18s, F-35s, E/A-18s, E-2s, B-1 bombers and remotely piloted drones, which began “dismantling and disabling” Venezuela’s air defense systems.

Well, that was fun. Anyone else need a slap?

He was the head of a failed state, and that causes all sorts of problems for us. Venezuela is allied with our adversaries and we don’t want China, Russia, Iran, etc.. in our region. About 1/3rd of the population has fled the country, causing a migration crisis all over the region, not just in the US, which leads to instability in those countries as well. Unlike other shithole failed states (Haiti), Venezuela can be fixed because they haven’t always been this bad off, they have a lot of resources (oil) that can be tapped to bring the economy back online. Also, this is going to be a massive blow to Cuba, which is already facing the worst economic crisis since the Communists took over because of the oil imports from Venezuela being dried up. I bet that domino falls by the end of the year.
>>
I'm sorry but this reeks of inside job or a negotiated surrender. If I'm getting invaded, I'm rotating guys with MANPADs and cannons on every rooftop in the city and there's no amount of fancy SEAD/DEAD or SOAR/Delta jerking that helps with that. The moment some cowboys start flying low I'm turning them into minced meat.

Either Maduro is retarded and didn't think the US would actually invade or there was a backhanded deal somewhere.

This is more aircraft than the Chinese used in their recent drills for Taiwan. They were using something closer to 89 aircraft in their recent blockade at max, going down to about 70. Back in 2025 they used about 125. Some anon here made a post that showed the Chinese, though trying to deploy over more and more sectors, have been using less aircraft in their drills.
This was a real show of force to the Chinese, especially after they just did their little playtime around Taiwan and sent a delegation to Venezuela. Especially showing that the idea that Americans have been outmoded by new military upsets in Ukraine are cope.

It was part of the training in Ukraine. Soviet "эшeлoниpoвaннaя" AD system meant that you have many layers of AD, the longest range being stationary (S200) and shorter being on the move, or protecting chosen objects (e.g. a factory)

S300s, Buks, Tors. These are all systems designed for countering 4th gen aircraft. As expected, they performed well against Russia.

For comparison, Iraq in 1991 didn't have any systems that generation. Their air defenses consisted of older systems like S-75, S-125, Kub and Osa. Notice that not a single of them is a long-range SAM like S-300, Patriot or SAMP-T. And yet they managed to shot down dozens of aircraft.

>Isn’t that their main “strategy” against NATO’s far superior airforce?
It WAS, and the US' (NATOs) counters to that strategy was to introduce SEAD/DEAD weapons and platforms along with specific training in how to accomplish SEAD/DEAD against Soviet/Chinese IADS, and later to design and field stealth platforms that USSR/Chinese IADS couldn't reliably track and target. Now the US has combined both of those abilities with the stealthy F-35 being able to perform SEAD/DEAD from 100+ miles away with new long range antiradiation missiles in the AARGM-ER, along with the F-35 having superior Electronic Attack (EA) abilities only slightly below those of the EA-18G Growler. The F-35 also has the ability to do Cyber Warfare on those IADS, too. The F-35 uses its AN/APG-81 AESA radar as part of its EA suite and can pinpoint focus so much energy into a very small area it can literally burn up the T/R modules that make up the enemy's radar array. Using SUTER V, they can hack into Russian/Chinese IADS infecting them with malware, injecting false targets or deleting targets, and the ability to take control of the IADS radar arrays and point them where ever they want to so that those radars become useless. For example, they can take control of the radar arrays, point them to the south and lock them to where the Russians/Chinese can't do anything with them, then attack from the north, east, or west where the radars can never see them.

>I'm rotating guys with MANPADs and cannons on every rooftop in the city and there's no amount of fancy SEAD/DEAD or SOAR/Delta jerking that helps with that.
The 9K38 Igla is IR guided, and the helicopters used by the 160th SOAR Night Stalkers have countermeasures for those very MANPADs. Your shitty MANPADs aren't going to do shit to the 160th's platforms. You'll be lucky to get a handful of MANPADs that make it close to their helos, and even less that actually explode near them. All you have to do is have a system that can recognize the MANPADs launch, track the missile, and then fire a laser into the IR seeker that blinds said seeker. It's not the 1990s anymore, grandpa, time to get up to speed with reality and technology. Those systems are called Common Infrared Countermeasures (CIRCM), Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM), and Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM).

Realistically you should look at dictatorships where the leader is hated by over 90% of the country.
So Iran seems like most likely target. Maybe Belarus, but I don't think Trump's too keen on messing in Russia's playground. North Korea if we're feelin particularly funny.

I have a trillion dollars in personal reserve, I can't get it and the US can use their trillion... so obviously I'm better off!

That's a really good question. I'm sure there are concepts of a plan.

This is actually really interesting, and a lot of people are missing it in favor of just yelling and screaming. It's a leader change, but without a regime change. That's very new, and we're still in the very early stages of it. We'll see how it plays out, but it looks like the play is to see if removing Maduro and the implicit threat that they can do it again will work as the minimum level of force to get the Venezuelan state to unfuck itself. And if not, then all of the more traditional approaches are still available, but it would be nice to not have to go there.

India looking at that tight chink bussy right now.

China can deploy a line of toilets across the border, no jeet will dare advance toward it.
>>
>>64718984
Given what I've read, that'd just anger the jeets and make them fight harder. Pretty sure I read a story about a jeet paying another jeet to not shit in the street, the streetshitter came back with his friends and beat the man to death.

No it's time to eat shit and die if you don't have a large stealth air force desu. No currently extant technology is effective against this shit.

Maybe drones will be able to do something eventually. Doesn't change radar cross sections though.

God damn, that probably put a hamper on anyone else about to shoulder an igla in the area.

Highly doubt they constantly moved their systems and decoys as would be doctrinal.
They simply lack the amount of systems needed to deter a determined US attack. Maybe they could have taken a few pot shots with medium range SAMs if they were disciplined. Some old ass Igla-S probably fares poorly against DIRCM and has been figured out thoroughly in advance.

the united states performed SEAD, jamming or eliminating radar installations to create a safe zone for US aircraft.
it probably helped that venezuelan C&C was not expecting an attack and was poorly prepared. i would not be surprised if all or even most AA systems available to venezuela during the time of the raid were undersupplied, nonfunctional/mothballed, and undermanned by personnel with limited training for the scenario that unfolded.
i would imagine venezuelan SAM operators receiving conflicting reports and losing contact with linked radars, resulting in general confusion

All the icons are wrong.

Though that single engine F-15 that’s supposed to be an F/A-18 looks sexy.
