Think we'll ever get full body armor?
Not until you remove the need to have a good cheek weld and actually see down your sights
>>64717812I have a crackpot theory that the very first full body armor/powered armor (not exoskeleton, just armor with electronics in it) will be adopted to support bulky helmets with HUD and laser-proof optics once combat lasers proliferate enough. One missed shot or a stray reflection, or a deliberate enemy attack is enough to permanently blind you faster than your eyelids can close. Soldiers will have to start wearing anti-laser goggles at all times in combat zones
>>64717812Why would you equip your scouts with helmets that reduce their field of view by having blinkers?
>>64717847german swat teams use these drop stocks for face shields theres even a g36 stock that can switch between normal config and the helmet cutout
>>64717856>Soldiers will have to start wearing anti-laser goggles at all times in combat zonesOn the money. This will be essential even in riot suppression and SWAT stuff as well. Ebay lasers are cheap and carry a lot of power, watts, even.
I wouldn't assume there would be much use in it. Mobility is increasingly important in battle, and since drone faggotry is starting to take over full-body armor will probably just be viewed as excessive and unnecessary. We're more likely to get some kind of Matrix-style pod that lets us plug into whatever we're operating, and there MAY wind up being a few guys in smaller mech-style suits with relatively low computer reliance to run defense against anything getting too close to the base without a huge risk of getting hacked.
>>64717847Realistically, this is NOT very far away, and could potentially be done with existing tech in the Hololens (now Anduril iirc) project
>>64717812Next-Generation Integrated Head Protection System (NG-IHPS)
>>64717812In time we certainly could. Look at the material advancements from WWI to 1st Gulf War. We went from wooden airplaine frames laid out on chalk lines on a shop floor to stealth bombers with laser guided munitions. We will just use drones instead.
>>64717812You're more likely to get full body soft-armor than hard armor, at least for the foreseeable future.
>>64717847>What is railed camera and HUD?
>>64718089Hopefully somebody was taking notes after Portland during the summer of love. I remember some of the high speed types from the Marshals had to deal with that sort of shit from the firey but mostly peaceful protestors.
>>64717847Literally THE smallest problen
>>64718754buy some surplus SPECs and you've got cheap, credible laser protection against typical ebay lasers. Bad news is that they dull your own red dot. My experience is that the new brown lens still works decently with yellow dot sights from Holosun. Green lens is 90s vintage from back when green lasers weren't really a thing. For an additional data point, a large batch (15+) of LA-12 GLIS 200mW dazzlers all got sold on fleabay for $200-300 a pop. This was about six months ago. These are green laser and were designed for checkpoint work. Can be used as a CQB tool if you've got balls and have high-OD laser eyepro (needs to be enclosed goggles because it's a dispersed beam) sufficient to "tank" it if it reflects off a mirror, because 200mW up close will damage eyes instantly and easily. Ebay lasers are far stronger.
>>64717856>>64718089anti-laser lenses are only good against an extremely specific wavelength of laserthey can't really protect broad-spectrum without being more like very dark welding glass than sunglasses
>>64718804This infographic is completely retarded. The brown lenses are better than the ESS lenses in literally every way, the only "gucci" thing about the ESS lenses is the fact that they're 30x more expensive. The Ops-Core "Eclipse" is like OD 0.5 against blue, 2 against green, and 0.0 against red, which is literally fucking useless.
>>64719938it's much easier to swap out optics than to swap the wavelength of your combat lasers. I vaguely remember hearing about a special kind of material that can rapidly turn opaque when you shine intense enough light at it once, so you could probably use that too
>>64719938>laser gogglesNo. Pic related connected to optics on your head. Your eyes protected from lasers.
>>64720136lol input lag, latency, artefacts, etc. Why do you think nobody takes digital night vision seriously?
>>64720145>there’s no way technology can improve!!!Yeah. Keep thinking that.
>>64720145I dunno. Those fpv drone racers these days require pretty speedy feedback, and i doubt there’s be much input lag if you’re hardwiring the optics to the headset and just using normal video as a protective device against lasers.
>>64720161There's a difference between moving a drone and replacing your own eyes with a laggy screen. You're still much better off with the goggles. Also, what do you do if a laser fries your optics? Take the goggles off, or go blind?
>>64720191I just know that laser goggles are wavelength specific and broad spectrum laser goggles are prohibitively dark as well as not really good. I would rather an optic fry/get damaged and take cover than be a casualty.
>>64720200As dark as normal sunglasses, and sometimes not even as dark as that. Light a few more flares.
>>64720161look up how digital night vision works before talking please
>>64720352Whos talking specifically about digital night vision, what about just vision?
>>64717812I still think that Gree had the best armor look in all of star wars. The camo mismatches, alice rig style webbing, fairly un-camo'd helmet. He just looks really nice.
>>64720359The ankle latch straps look so stupid.
>>64720145Nah, just cap out the display's output so it can't produce eye damaging light. >>64719938Actually, there's several broad spectrum anti-laser lenses for sale. They can't cover every wavelength but they can make penetrating lenses a crapshoot.
>>64717812Probably. SWAT could use them because they need to take suspects in alive and rarely need to run half a mile.
>>64718730I've heard claims that Russians are fielding "Fragsuits" that are basically full body soft armor specifically for fragmentation. Not credible, obviously, but also not beyond plausibility.
>>64720352>Please do my work for me because I can't win this argument.Digital NV has a fuse to prevent dangerous outputs. You can still be temporarily blinded by the goggles whiting out but you can't be permanently blinded.
>>64720503>not credible>something in common use and over a decade old/k/ is truly slopified. I've seen basic physics called impossible here.Anon, fragsuits were a staple of Russian combat engineers and counterinsurgency units in the early 2010s due to the proliferation of homemade grenades (mostly khattabkas) among muslims/chechens in that time period.
>>64720526Considering how we've seen cardboard ERP, I wouldn't be surprised if those fragsuits were just quilted cotton.
>>64720479This. After all, ballistic shields are in use and that's pretty insane if you think about it.
>>64720555It helps that police generally aren't expected to deal with .50 cals and 40mm grenades.
>>64720359Commandos and Phase 2 Rex mog him thoughbeit
>>64718780We have full face protection solutions already and we don't use them because you can't fucking shoot with them on.
>>64717896Supposedly helps when piloting speeders and walkers. Also was needed for binocs and advanced targeting equipment built in the helmet
>>64717847So some kind of indent in the cheek?
>>64717856Man warfare is going to get ultra gay if the blinding laser taboo is ever broken>>64720359For me it’s the Galactic Marines, although honestly ever single clone trooper armour in ROTS was kino
>>64720145>input lag>latencyI fly a drone through gates, bandos, and trees at 60-100mph with a digital HD system, the latency is a non issue. 10 years ago digital was laggy, not today.
>>64722198Digital night vision is still very laggy. It needs to get a lot better if it's going to totally replace your eyes.
>>64722245It doesn't need to totally replace your eyes. It just needs to partially replace them when you're being attacked by blinding lasers you don't have appropriate lenses for. Kinda like how gas masks would reduce a soldier's vision and stamina but in this case you can just shoot the dude with the laser.
>>64720191FPV cameras aren't laggy though. They're analog and have sub 10ms latency. If they break you just plug in a new one. With a dedicated quick connection standard it wouldn't take longer than changing a magazine.
>>64717812We already have it, individual lives of soldiers are not valuable enough to train with it or form doctrine around it. The average SWAT officer is far better protected than your average soldier.
>>64720511no, the reason why people don't like themthis post: >>64720161 describes exactly how digital night vision works and it sucks ass
>>64718754I was so surprised we didn't see mass lasings become a thing. Evidence that 90% of the movement was controlled op.>>64720136This but with distributed imagers that are meshed together.
>>64718804I picked up some old sperian and Honeywell lab goggles off ebay after people started getting lased in 2020. They weren't too expensive but wish I knew about the SPECS at the time.
>>64721626>phase 2 rexjesus dude come on, you don't have to out yourself like THAT
>>64720359Counterproposal:
>>64720191Would you rather it hit your eyes directly? It's like complaining your plates are compromised after stopping a round thst would have ripped straight through your chest otherwise.
>>64723932Digital video is fast enough to fly a drone?
>>64725245It has been for a long time grandpa. A decade plus for hobbyists and 3-4 decades for the military.
>>64724026I don't care if it's zoomershit. It's a Phase 2 helmet with the visor of Phase 1, literally the best of both worlds.
>>64725430Can you explain why digital NV still sucks then?
>>64720145Regular combat isn't cawadooty twitch shooting where the latency is going to be a severe issue. >But they'll break! Artfacts! Latency!Versus fucking BEING BLIND>>64725245Look on youtube for fast-flying drone shit. Technology has been going in leaps and bounds, professionals just lag behind. When I took a drone class taught by some cops back in 2019 they stipulated someone (you or a partner) had to have physical visual eyes on the drone at all time rather than use a camera. At the same time you had people racing drones through really tight urban navigation, it was just professional regulations then wanted to be anal.
>>64725573It sucks because it's low rez high lag slop for poor consoomers, not because it's somehow related to drones' bandwidth.
>>64717812
>>64722187> warfare is going to get ultra gay if the blinding laser taboo is ever broken Nothing would make it gayer than lifting the ban on chemical warfare.> Release industrial quantities of sarin gas> Everybody drop and start convulsing > Combat over
>>64725630It's banned because it's completely useless against a 1970s era mech division.
>>647178122026 and fighter jets still maintain 9-6 line instead of rear firing missiles
>>64725630Keep in mind that Gas Masks are still a thing. Arguably, they've gotten better with the invention of teflon, activated charcoal, and HEPA filters.
>>64725245yeah, and not fast enough for walking apparentlyif you think you can do better you should make that product a reality
>>64725842doesn't help you against skin contact poisons
>>64725878NBC rated clothes are also a thing. You could use a gaseous contact poison but that kind of reactivity would eat through any container you'd store them in. >But muh VXAerosolized oil. It doesn't take up volume like a gas and doesn't last long in the air before settling on surfaces.
>>64726015You have no idea how extraordinarily potent sarin is. A minuscule vapor droplet on your skin is enough for you to die seizing and foaming.Only a fully encapsulating, vapor-tight suit with closed system respirator can get near sarin. It takes a CBRN military unit to get things right, and not fuck up the suit seals or the following decontamination. And even if you somehow manage to have the expensive gear and the technicians required to use it, it will only keep you safe for a limited amount of time before sarin eats its way through the suit and fucks you up.There is not a single military on earth that can deal with sarin which is why all the grown up countries agree not to use it.Only turbo niggers from third world shitholes like Syria ever use it and that's why they get bombed the fuck out soon after.
>>64726110>a child's first thoughts about nbctime to read some actual operational research instead of MSDS sheets and tubeslop anon. chemical weapons are not very impressive outside the theatre of the mind.
>>64717856>bulky helmets with HUD and laser-proof optics>>64718089>anti-laser goggles>>64719938>they can't really protect broad-spectrum without being more like very dark welding glass than sunglassesYou are like little babies of eye protection. No lens, just cameras and screens with electrical and digital censors between the world and the operator's eyes.>>64720136>Pic relatedYou've got the right idea but modern cops will only use it if they're intimidating so think picrel.
>>64726110Are we talking VX or are we talking Sarin? Their different chemicals. Sarin is far more reactive but also has a short shelf life and doesn't persist well. You can't use it in the rain because of how well it mixes with water and incendiaries would cause it to ignite. Anyone that gets exposed can be treated with Atrophine or 2-PAM. Biperiden has also been suggested as an antidote.
>>64726183> You are like little babies of eye protection.> Posts sci-fi shit that doesn't currently exist and would be a laughingstock if anybody tried to implement it today.
>>64726130Kek you won't read mops on sarin because gas is not a munition intended for the battlefield since WW1.It's optimized for civilian agony and trauma. It's a terrorist wet dream which is why large sums if money are being dumped into antidote research.
>>64726189>sci-fi shit that doesn't currently existSee OP>>64717812>Think we'll ever get...What thread did you think you were in?
>>64726185Current antidotes against sarin are kinda cope. If you were to survive a sarin exposure it's because you were underexposed and would have survived without antidotes anyway.Lethal exposure means death in minutes and we currently don't have effective antidotes but it's a work in progress.
>>64717856>enemy attempts to blind me with lasers>I turn 360 degrees so the lasers cant reach my eyes >I then turn around and shoot the enemy I think I just solved the problem
>>64726234That's what NBC gear is for. Skin doesn't absorb anything quickly so simply putting on a gas mask and running away could reduce your dosage enough that antidotes can treat the symptoms until the nerve gas breaks down.
>>64726535>Skin doesn't absorb anything quicklyCould you just pour out a few drops of methylmercury for us anon. We're just going to wait over there.
>>64721626
>>64723988There were a bunch of lasings reported. But the reason we didn't see mass lasings is pretty simple. If you're a normie at the protests you're probably not there for violence. If you are there for violence you're probably looking to throw some punches. If you're part of an organization you've probably been told over and over again to not bring or use weapons because incitement laws and civil suits are how political organizations are wiped out. Most people showing up at a protest aren't looking for violence, and most of the ones that are will be geared more towards street brawling. Showing up in masse with lasers to blind people displays explicit criminal intent and the optics alone would get most protest groups to avoid you like the plague.
