So is the moral just like, don't fall out of a helicopter?
>>
I actually had a Blackburn (no relation) in my squad. He got real fucking sick of being told to never ever go to air assault school.
>>
>>64719137
Or try to dismount too soon. A bro of mine tried to dismount the rope halfway down when we were doing night training, tried hanging on for dear life in the vertical position and just burned his face with the rope and ate shit at the bottom. He still tried to pull security when he got back up, though.
>>
>>64719137

That’s what happens when you use tabless bitches on real world operations.

At least in Grenada, 1st and 2nd Batt configured ad hoc squads made up of tabbed Rangers for the initial combat jump. Some tabless bitches were flown in later to the secured airfield to fill out the ranks and add additional support and firepower.

Then 3rd Batt came along and started sending tabless bitches into combat, while their were to tabbed dudes in the other Batts they could have used. So stupid. And it’s not just having a TAB, it’s the additional years of RGR experience that goes along with having/wearing a tab.
>>
And don't stick your penis in your 12 year old daughter. Ends up eclipsing any combat accolades one receives.
>>
>>64723013
To be fair back in those days tab protecting was obnoxiously over done. I deployed with 1/75 and the shit I heard from the guys that got in before the GWOT kicked off is absurd. Making dudes duck walk for miles to destroy their hips and legs during fucking pre-Ranger and shit just to have an excuse to say no.
>>
In Mike Durant's book he is adamant that it wasn't Blackburn's fault. Durant maintains that a SOAR pilot who had only previously flown observation missions simply put the bird way too high and Blackburn fell off the bottom of the dangling rope. Who knows what the truth is.

I would be more inclined to take the first hand account than the Hollywood version. Dodging an rpg is way cooler than being a dumbass pilot getting dudes rekt.
>>
>>64723103
crazy how a 7 year old can say those things after the wife separates and has a phone argument
>>
>>64719137
The moral is that no mater the amount of training, or how specialized your skill set is, you are always still a human that can be killed by random and inglorious shit. See: Delta Force operator who got the top of his head cut off by a little bird rotor during a training event.

That and

>don't launch a raid in the middle of a city in broad daylight if you can help it
>don't have a 30 minute window with zero room for error
>don't assume Somalis can't shoot down your helicopters just because they're illiterate cannibals
>don't neglect to inform local US commanders of the raid so they can have their Cobra gunships on standby to assist if necessary
>don't let your Secretary of Defense be distracted by a FUCKING SALAD while you're giving him a briefing

>>64723456
>Durant maintains that a SOAR pilot who had only previously flown observation missions simply put the bird way too high and Blackburn fell off the bottom of the dangling rope.

How come Blackburn was the only one in his chalk to be injured in that manner then?

Tabbed as in tabernacle?

Was he the first guy in the rope? I honestly don’t know. Seems like it’s possible, and pilot brought it down a few feet after?

>Tabbed as in tabernacle?

Tabbed as in Ranger Tab.

This is going to be a bit confusing but bear with me here. But US Army Rangers actually refers to graduates of two separate entities, Ranger School and the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (formerly Ranger Indoctrination Program).

Ranger School is a general leadership and small unit tactics course, it's very demanding (you have to conduct trainings in numerous types of biomes, jungle, desert, snow, and mountains), but it's open to everyone, regardless of whether or not they intend to actually serve in the Ranger Regiment. A lot of officers and NCOs will take the course just to add to it to their resume. Graduates of this course are issued a "Ranger Tab" (basically a big gold and black bar with "RANGER" written on it) that you are permitted to wear on your uniform

Ranger Assessment and Selection Program is the course you take to join the 75th Ranger Regiment. It's also very demanding, but is more focused specifically on the mission profile of the Ranger Regiment. Air assaults, airborne jumps, airfield seizure, long-range reconnaissance, use of light vehicles. Graduates of this course are issued the "Ranger Scroll" upon being assigned to the Ranger Regiment (a green and black insignia that resembles a scroll with the name of Ranger Battalion they're assigned to, "1st", "2nd", or "3rd Ranger Battalion", or just "75th Ranger Regiment" if they're serving in the Regiment Headquarters Company or Regimental Reconnaissance Company).

To join the Ranger Regiment as an enlisted private, you just need to get a Ranger Scroll (re. complete RASP/RIP). To join the Ranger Regiment as an NCO or an officer, you need to get a Ranger Tab (re. complete Ranger School) first.

He was one of the first, the pilot had to maneuver to avoid an RPG which ment he missed the rope and fell the whole 70ft to the ground
>>

>tabless bitches

As a maroon beret wearing paratrooper (the real kind), I worked with a whole shitload of ranger tab wearing meatheads during my career.

Every fucking time one of those dimwits was in my bird, I had to triple check their shit for catastrophic stupidity before I let them get anywhere near the door.

They are great for carrying heavy shit and doing what they're told (as long as the orders aren't complicated). Beyond that, they're just jarheads in a different uniform.

Be proud of that tab. You earned it. Shitting on others who are on your mission earns you a fucking kick in the balls, you disgraceful POS.

It's preferable not to fall from a helicopter, yes

I have a cousin in the army who pretty much hates everyone in the army except for his specific specialty (mos?). I assume this is a universal trait.

Granted the US army is massive, but it's fascinating how an organization can function if everybody in it thinks everybody else is a retard.

What is the medical name for your mental disease?

hey no different than the rest of the world

Attention whore syndrome
>>
>>64730308
>I assume this is a universal trait.
Yeah, that's how social circles work
>my squad>my platoon>my company>my battalion>my mos>my branch>military>civvies>foreigners
When there is a conflict between the two, the one higher up the order did nothing wrong, and the other are mouthbreathing retards. For lower enlisted, this is even more pronounced, because the only thing they can really do about it is sit around with one of those inner layers of the onion and circlejerk about how stupid everyone else is.

Can confirm that rangers are autistic.
2/75 showed up to Al Udied during Allies Refuge with the expectation that they were going to be sent into Kabul, and apparently their mission got scrubbed so they stuck around to help us process the inbound refugees. Fucking retards rolled up wearing full combat load, nods, and all their cool guy shit to what was essentially handing out milk and diapers to moms and ended up scaring the shit out of all the Afghans who thought they were about to get snatched.
My buddy told the entire BN command team to get the fuck out of his way and got away with it.
>>
>>64724293
oh fuck off. Was Ann Frank poster a scroll Ranger this whole time?
>>
>>64730308
protip, literally everybody in the army is a massive retard and they're just blinded to that fact among their little tribe but have no problem recognizing it among everybody else
>>
>>64723103
Yeah I don’t think anyone on /k/ needs to worry about anything having to do with their own children, guys with a hobby that is just “guns” - not exactly impregnating a bunch of chicks
>>
>>64732773
The people that joined the army, did so because they could not learn and develop a skill to sustain themselves after high school without government intervention

Sounds mean but that’s the dry truth

Had the government not fed them, clothes them, employed them and micromanaged everything they did for 4 years they would have died starving on the streets homeless

Stand right there and make sure no Muslims walk onto the base is about what they could handle
>>
>>64730308
>Granted the US army is massive, but it's fascinating how an organization can function if everybody in it thinks everybody else is a retard.
Are they wrong, though? The US military isn't powerful because of the people in it but because of the factory workers and engineers back home making them really powerful hardware in massive quantities.
>>
>>64732810
Movies and TV show delta force , there’s like what 200 delta force dudes?

They don’t show Daryl from rule Michigan who can’t do algebra but is tasked with filling sandbags

Or Tyrone that knows about 500 words in English tasked with hearing up the bagged food

Or Susan who’s job is to literally walk around and pick up trash

Not everyone is an operator or doing HALO jumps or is a systems engineer or surgeon that happens to be in the military
>>
>>64719137
No, it's literally never help Africans. Don't try, don't get involved in their problems, nothing you do will make Africa a better place or improve your life.
>>
>>64719137
>fuck ONE goat
>>
>>64723013

>>

That's not true. Nuking africa will make it a better place.
>>

>>64732773
So I have two cousins in the US Army, the the loudest one who thinks everyone is a retard is a medic who rambles on about giving retards IV's because they drink too much also they injure themselves doing stupid shit. The other one complains but he's a food inspector logistics something, not sure what he has to complain about unless people are dropping turds in the cafeteria. Now I have two other cousins in the Marines, they don't complain about their fellow Marines ever but they get really mad at the two Army cousins for fucking with them all the time. 4 Cousins in the US Navy, they seem pretty happy for the most part and well rounded. 1 Cousin in the Air Force, he's the biggest complainer about people in his branch but he's the only one career oriented and actually gives a fuck about his work.
>>
>>64732819
Well, you have the grammatical skills of an ASVAB waiver so I take it you speak from experience.
>>
>>64732956
I don't think that counts as helping Africans, but I can get behind it.
>>
>>64732810
and because of the institutional experience and training it has. Something the comes second probably only to the British
>>
>>64736302
the bong army is third world tier. it isn't better than anyone at anything. they unconditionally surrendered to egypt and got their shit kicked in in both world wars and needed the US to bail them out both times
>>
>>64723578
can I get a link on that accident you mentioned, seems interesting
