There is literally no reason why you should not have one.
ok but not boafeng
I have two Quanshengs so far, a K5 and the new K1They're kind of cool with all those custom firmwares.
Chines made. Chinese firmware The new ones even come with wifi DO NOT BUYThe day of the happening, China will disable all of them. Same with your DJI drones.
I only have 1 UV-82 don't even know if and how to make it works since I only have the 1 and no one to contact kek
>>64719957Just yesterday I was scanning my PRM channels and randomly got a conversation with random anons. one was far away from me by 22km
>>64719998I only know how to turn the knob on top on and off...
>>64719781>There is literally no reason why you should not have a $20 sex with X-29.Agreed. Not sure how your pic is related though.
>>64719942You have two options:1. do what Ukrainians do and replace the firmware ASAP hoping you'll have removed enough chinkshit backdoors, or2. deal with it and treat it as a cheap toy with all the drawbacks that entails.
>>64719942>The day of the happening
Is there any middle ground when it comes to comms? It seems like the community divides hard into two extremes: the "Lol just get a baofeng guize" seems to be 99% consoomer retards who have no idea how to actually operate their new toy. On the other hand you've got hamboomers. They seem to know what they're talking about, but insist you need $20k in gear (half of it out of production and therefore difficult to source), and you need an advanced math degree to keep up with the antenna discussions.
>>64719781I have one and they are not useful beyond listening to weather and music radio
>>64719781I can give you several.1. Wife and I have cell phones. Don't need a walkie talkie. 2. Kid isn't old enough to play with, or operate a walkie talkie.3. We work full time jobs.4. No time outside of work, house care, and child care to play with it.5. If we did have one, why would we use it? We can yell to eachother in different rooms. Not everyone uses radios, m8.
>>64720137I'm not deep into radio, but yes there is a middle ground, which is a cheaper, but much more powerful transmitter and DIY antennas from available plans + a decent receiver OR SDR. The Baofengs are low power and just serve as an intro to radio/mobile solution for hitting repeaters. These aren't a replacement for a powerful transmitter, but with a nearby repeater, you can make contact
>>64720641Sorry, I was asking about a middle-ground *community*. I'm 100% sure that reasonable mid-tier hardware solutions exist. The question is who is discussing them and where?
>>64719942Youu can't remotely disable a shortwave radio receiver, dipshit>>64720137This basically allows you to broadcast over short distances, probably in the same range as air traffic control at your local airport or ham radios. The expensive equipment is for people who want to recieve and transmit on a global or continental range. One of these chink hand held radios won't be able to recieve broadcasts from more than like 100km away without an antenna array
>>64721233Middle ground communities only exist online for people who just listen to broadcasts as a hobby. That's because broadcasting is highly regulated and you can easily triangulated and fined by the government for broadcasting without a license on an unapproved frequency. Needs who have spent 10k on radio equipment will help rat you out to keep you from broadcasting over other frequencies
if they made one of those rugged phones that could actually transmit on consumer radio bands i would be so happy
>>64719781I only use mine to scan police frequincies.
>>64720137I have yet to make contact with anyone other than my circle of friends, since everybody seems to be EXTREMELY ANAL about radio government authorizations, licences, government certified equipment, callsigns and in general gratuituous gov dick sucking that doesn't bring them a single plus and I am completely disinterested in.>BAWWWWWW YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO TX ON SAID FREQUENCY UNLESS YOU HAVE A LOICENSENigga I just want exchange a word or two
>>64720212>on that normal man's grind.Yep. This.
>>64720212>things never change or get bad we are still in the garden of eden :)lmao retard
>>64720137AFAIK you need a digital radio to keep up with the times. Baofeng sells some but they're more expensive than what OP tries to shill. Here's what I suggest:BAOFENG DM-32 GPS N9TAX VHF Slim Jim J-Pole antennaBF-771 antennaBut it's not really worth getting into beyond this or what OP suggested because the radio waves are just shitty version of the internet with less people on it. Nothing of interest happens there. And you need a licence anyway.
>>64719781>There is literally no reason why you should not have one.the reason to not have one is that you should have at least 2 so you can hand one off and have someone to talk to
>>64721980>Youu can't remotely disable a shortwave radio receiver, dipshitHe doesn't know
>>64719781What's their use case besides being /out/
>>64729958>Nothing of interest happens there. And you need a licence anyway. From what I know of the ham community you're exactly right that there's no big drama, but it's more a "journey" than a "destination" thing. They're constantly fiddling with building strange new antennas, assembling kit electronics, etc. It's a bit like the gearheads who are constantly wrenching on their cars but rarely race.
>>64719942You can modify the firmware dipshit.Meanwhile other companies (West and Japan) keep selling exactly the same crap designed in 1982
>>64730127Sitting in the closet.
>>64719781I don't have a ham license
>>64730908They work on the honor system. Just don't talk to anybody and you're more than legal. It's really nice to be so trusted by the government, but it's like that with most all laws. Just don't break laws and you are a good guy!
>>64730127>listen to weather stations>listen to marine weather stations>listen to boomers talk about radios and the weather
>>64719781I almost bought it but the top review told me I need a license. Do I really need a license for this? Am I going to get the heat knocking on my doors if I order one from aliexpress?
