What's the best all around gun to have? I don't have any handguns right now, just a 28' hunting shotgun. I want to shoot it at the range, for home defense and maybe carry it a couple of times for camping trips (not every day).

I really like how the Beretta 92 looks, but is it maybe too big for carrying? Should i just be boring and get a Glock 19?

imo a compact 9mm. Glock 19 is one of a gorillion examples of that niche
>>
>>64722285
Honestly, there's a reason the Glock 19 is probably the most popular conceal carry firearm on America for well over a decade. It's almost like it was designed in '88 for a meta that would come to fruition 30 years later.
>>
would a keltec PMR30 be good for self defense against tweakers and medium sized dogs? 30 rounds of 22 hornet seems like itd be enough to take both down, i just want a high ammo capacity with very low recoil in a platform thats difficult to limpwrist
>>
>>64722285
Ruger RXM is the flat out most gun per dollar you can get. If you are only going to carry it innawoods and not EDC, go for something big like that. Beretta 92 works too, but for a lot more money and no more capability. Less actually since they aren't optic cut as standard. If you want something hipster like a Beretta 92 or a CZ75, go for it, but don't think you are getting any tangible benefits compared to cheap striker slop.
>>
>>64722285
Glock 19 is the jack of all trades gun.
>carry

>duty/HD
It's not the best at any of them but it does everything well enough while 'just werking' out of the box.
>>
>>64722329
It's a 22 mag, not 22 hornet. It'll work, but you should probably consider something centerfire. Maybe get a 5.7 or one of the bigger stack and a half 380s like the Beretta 80x or P365-380. Aside from that there is always 9mm anything.

Glocksuckers want you to buy into their cult of personality to help assuage their buyer's remorse, or help justify replacing half of the components with aftermarket parts just to make it enjoyable to shoot.

Truth is you can go with any major manufacturer in your price range and you'll be fine.
Market competition at virtually every budget point combined with social media bullying has made firearm companies nearly identical, if it doesn't work they'll fix it or replace it.
>>
>>64722285
92, and other full size pistols, are just big enough that when you plan to carry them you'll find it inconvenient often enough that you will leave it at home. That's why if you're going to get one pistol, it should be a compact, so G19 size or smaller. Compacts are also fine to shoot as just a range toy, unlike something in the micro 9 or subcompact class which you'll probably find unpleasant enough and hard enough to shoot well that it'll kill your enthusiasm for shooting it at the range.
>>
>>64722355
ah yes, youre right i mistyped. my interest for .22 magnum is the price point, its half the price of 9mm

As the resident Glock shill, you should get the gun that you think is cool. Presumably, you live in America, which means that you can own more than one handgun, and so you shouldn’t feel overly constrained by “practicality.”

There’s all the time in the world to get the gun you deem the most practical, but the time for being cool is NOW.
>>
>glock
>cult of personality
Glock is the "i don't give a shit i just need a gun and i want to shoot" gun. It's everyone else that insists on buying something else because they want to be different and see a gun as a way to express themselves.
>>
>>64722416
>Glock is the "i don't give a shit i just need a gun and i want to shoot" gun.
That's what Glock owners want people to think about them.
People who "don't give a shit" buy a ruger, keltec, sw, etc.
People who post basedjak charts thinking they've reached peak shooting ability with their first RDS mounted gun buy Glock.
>>
>>64722402
9mm is cheaper than 22mag. You are thinking about 22lr. Which will also work, if you can hit someone in the head while they are trying to stab you, but you are significantly more likely to jam or have bad primers with rimfire of any sort. 9mm is the choice if cost is the biggest factor the difference in price gets you so much over 22lr. Is your life not worth 12 cents more a round?

>>64722887
It's same class of pistol. cc9:vp9=shield:m&p With similar differences. For example, all of these pistols have two control levers on the left side of the frame under the slide, one for takedown and another to release the slide on a new magazine. And if you press the latter one on an HK with slide locked back, it will indeed release the slide.

It's finnnneeeeee but I personally do not (did not) let mag capacity laws dictate the caliber I shoot. If I wanted a 9 I'd still buy a 9, it still has the benefit of recoil and cost per round over .40. And since they can perform the same with objective-tailored ammo I don't buy the "more horsepower per mag" malarkey

That said price is also a factor, if it's an incredibly good deal (because nobody wants .40 lol) that could take practical precedence over what I previously said. But being an HK I doubt it

Rimfire has a whole host of caveats. The most reliable high capacity 22 semi auto seems to be the tx22, but you aren't getting a ton of capacity over a 9mm. A comped 9mm might be an option for you. It can be pretty dang low recoil and you get to choose from a much bigger selection of guns.
>>64722402
Most of the time you'll only be able to save 2-3 cpr at most over 9mm with 22 magnum. Use ammoseek and select free shipping only for future use.

I'm an HK fanboy but saying that the USP has a better or even similar trigger to the 92 should automatically put you in a mental institution.
The 92 series probably has the best trigger out of any DA/SA gun ever made. A P30 series LEM gun with the Greyguns trigger and short reset kit is a close second. P226/9 third.

>Get a 2011 and shoot Limited Optics

I'm mostly a Glock guy already and I've carried the 43x for a while now, so that would be a benefit to the Glock route along with being the cheapest option.

so are you actually going to address my original (correct) argument that the USP has a dogshit trigger in comparison to the 92 series?
>>
>>64724775
The match trigger does nothing to the DA pull, the match trigger also makes the reset less positive since it weakens the trigger return spring trying to make the trigger lighter.

The gray gun short reset kit only makes the reset shorter, not actually a short reset like a LTT 92 or other true short reset. You can buy Berettas with short reset trigger bars stock, like the 92X RDO.

If you only shot these two pistols in SA they’re both good enough triggers not to matter but when evaluated as DA/SA the USP sucks even with the match kit with SRT.

I agree with most of what you said, but I still think the USP Match trigger is one of the best triggers on a combat gun. It breaks so predictably and light, with no over-travel. The light reset and the DA trigger pull are just skill issues.

HK45 is taller than a Mark 23 and has less capacity. You'd have to be literally mentally retarded to carry one. This guy is just an autistic weeb who is big enough to conceal a very long handgun.
>>
>>64726258
The only thing "mentally retarded" would be not carrying if you are legally able to

Or carrying a black powder gun. Or a p320 with one in the chamber.
>>
Carrying anything bigger than a G19 in 2025+1 is extremely retarded.
>inb4 I carry full-size everytime I leave the house once a month to get groceries.

>>64726310

>>
>>64726322
NTA but it's comfort and weight too, especially because I only carry appendix because that's what I train around. Just because I can conceal something doesn't mean I want to.
>>
>>64726348
I carry apendix too except when I'll be sitting down for long periods like driving or eating dinner. Then it's 5 o clock.

I carry 5 o clock ever since the West Freeway Church of Christ shooting
>>
>>64725945
While I do think it's important to train the most with the gun you carry (so I'd suggest shooting in whatever division you can with the 43x), getting a 2011/cz/M9 might expand your horizons and you might like it way more. I'd go with the Beretta since it's gonna be the easiest to acquire and swap parts and need the least tlc out of the three hammer fired options. And definitely the cheapest even with Langdon parts.
>>
>>64725945
LTT’d beretta is probably the best for trigger to cost ratio since you can pick up any beretta 92 used

2011 is an entirely different beast and once you get into 2011s they kind of invalidate all other range guns.

>shadow 2/beretta
Except you can get a 2011 for 700-900 dollars now, before 2011s occupied an entirely different cost bracket at 2k but now there starting to be sub 1k for the entry level
>>
>>64726357
>so I'd suggest shooting in whatever division you can with the 43x)
I'm using my 47 for matches. Mostly stock atm.
Looking into the M9 more.
>Except you can get a 2011 for 700-900 dollars now
I've shot multiple Prodigies and I'm sorry but they are flaming piles of shit. They are 2011s in name only. I would take my Glock over them. If I go the 2011 route it's probably Kimber or Platypus, they seem like the best price/performance.

the trigger pull on my friend's staccato XC was almost exactly the same as on my LTT 92 NP3
2011's are tremendously overrated for what they are unless you can get one sub-$1200, and I prefer my 92 because it's drop safe
>>
>>64725877
I basically did what they do to the match champion to my DAO SP101. People love to shit on tuger triggers and it is generally warranted, fresh from the box, but put a little work into them and they really shine. You get a tanky little snub nose that is actually comfortable to shoot magnums through and is a dream with 38s, you get a replaceable front sight standard, it works just fine with speed loaders stock (unlike a J frame where you have to change the grips to use speed loaders), and it is still small enough to pocket carry. If you are going to carry a revolver, an SP101 (that has had a trigger job or is a snub nose match champion) is the most well rounded imo. It's really hard to beat. The only thing that comes close is the 649 and that's not being made anymore. . .
>>

>invalidate all other range guns
Doing most of your shooting with some tricked out "range gun" that you never carry is retarded. You should practice most with what you carry. Regularly carrying a 2011 (outside of people who have winter carry) is not likely because they're big, and not smart because they aren't drop safe. 2011s do not invalidate other range guns because they're no better than 1911s on the range, and capacity which is their only advantage does not matter for general range use. 2011s are only so popular because they're ubiquitous in minor power factor competition divisions.
>>
>>64726631
>minor power factor competition divisions
Optic major fucking when
>>
>>64726581
this guy's a retard for several reasons
the MK23 can't be fixed with JB weld you need to plastic weld the frame because it's made of fiber-reinforced nylon based polymer so it'd need to be clamped and welded probably with a metal insert similar to how SL8 conversions are done
obviously stressing a polymer gun in a way and to a degree that it wasn't designed for will hurt it
the HKParts mag extensions are fucking garbage and the only reason they're tolerated is because they're the only ones in existence for most of the HK guns. On half of the extensions I have, the two pathetic little aluminum detents are either stripped from the factory or the threading doesn't work, and they're only about a milimeter thick so they'll fail when stressed. I check them after every match I shoot with them specifically because I've had them fail the same way and bind up when used after.

>2011s are only so popular because they're ubiquitous in minor power factor competition divisions.

I've got one. It needs a trigger job too, but not as badly as the SP101 needed one. (Go for a pro series or performance center version if you get one so you don't have to do the trigger job.) If you want a lightweight revolver, it's a great option. I vastly prefer the 638 though. It was my EDC before I got my SP101. My 638 still has the best trigger of any gun I own after I worked on the trigger. The 642 is every bit as capable of having an amazing trigger too. If you want a revolver that doesn't need a trigger job out of the box, consider a Ruger LCR.

Only the unfaithful have issues with his stuff.

His mainline 92 stuff is flawless. Except maybe his new hammer isn’t generating as much impact force as advertised and heavier hammer springs are required. Him attaching his name to third party products like the px4 comp probably wasn’t a good idea. Maybe beta testing stuff on customers wasn’t a good idea either as while they do test products inhouse they didn’t test on enough different examples of the same guns apparently. I trust his stuff and carry it but you should be shooting your gun to see if it works.

Do you guys think a weapon mounted light is essential on a home defense pistol, particularly if your main HD will be a rifle with a light anyways? I have a 1911 that I keep on my nightstand since I shoot it much better than my edc, but it doesn’t have a rail for a light. I briefly considered replacing it for something more modern that can hold a light, but then I realized that my Ar-15 is in my room and I would reach for that anyways for any home defense situation that I have more than 10 seconds to respond to. My thoughts are that any situation too fast for me to get my rifle ready would be too quick for me to identify an attacker with or without a light. Is there a different use case for a handgun with a light that I am missing?

Idk your setup but my rifle takes longer to grab and the few times I've had to grab something I've grabbed my pistol out of laziness and uncertainty of a threat(there wasn't one). It's also easier to tuck away when you're clear and less dramatic to pull out.

You want a gun that you’ll actually carry so get something that fits in a pocket. I carry guns that just barely fit in my pockets because I don’t care about printing and you shouldn’t either. I do have holsters for them too, they just don’t get as much use.
Beretta 80X or older cheetahs
CZ-82 or 83
CZ-P01

>inb4 what!? these are huge for a pocket!
I’m not obese and just over average height. Stop buying faggot pants/shorts with tiny useless pockets. Your pocket should able to accommodate a TI-83 calculator comfortably.
>>
>>64729387
why ever carry a gun in your pocket? when i go out in sweatpants i just wrap my inner belt from my duty belt around my waist and appendix carry.

Cool thing about ruger revolver triggers is that they take to the "poor man trigger job" especially well. If you dry fire the shit out of it or just shoot it a ton, the trigger will improve greatly over time. Trigger jobs just speed that up. I also shimmed mine so its very smooth. My 638 trigger that I worked on is a bit better, but I have had it a lot longer and shot it a lot more compared to my brand new SP101 that has only been shot once.

Blame Thomas Massie and MGT, and everyone else who decided to use the immense political mandate from the republican election victory to waste everyone’s time with the Epstein hoax. Which it is now, the allegations they said existed don’t exist. I believed them as first and now I hate his guts. Thomas said he had names, where are the names? He lied this entire time and wasted whatever majority the republicans had in the house with this stupid shit. Now like 400-500 DOJ lawyers have to redact millions of documents that HIS bill said had to be redacted.
>>
>>64729593
nta but
>who decided to use the immense political mandate from the republican election victory to waste everyone’s time with the Epstein hoax
yes because all of his "immense political mandate" has been better suited to not removing suppressors from the NFA, giving blackrock and vanguard control over the entire US, shit-talking white people constantly, and doing israel's bidding
what exactly do we pay our government clerks for, if not releasing documents to the public? The names are in the epstein files, redacted, with no explanation given. Massie can't release them himself because that's not his job and it's illegal to do so and he doesn't have access to those government systems. there's a gigantic difference between someone who works at the DOJ verbally disclosing something to a congressman in confidence as a form of whistleblowing, and being able to publicly release verified documentation for something.

I'm convinced half of the real people on 4chan have never held an actualy position of employment based on how little they understand about how real people with W-2's have to do things according to rules.

trump didn't say shit about the HPA. MAYBE i'd be inclined to look the other way if the NFA got killed, but as it stands, he didn't even pay it lip service.

Yes but it was mostly all the little things they added together that changed the feel enough to make me like it

Higher beavertail and palm swell
Cutout in triggerguard
More aggressive serrations on front slide
I don't about the trigger since I'm replacing it
Grip texture changed
Texturing added on the frame for index fingers

Was thinking of Ruger RXM but I might just go for the gen 6 19

I run grip tape on almost all my pistols but I'm really glad Glock put grip texture all the way up the sides finally and stopped leaving that stupid fucking gap for literally no reason, because now everyone will copy them and it will be the standard.

Well if those features are worth the difference in price to you, go for it. There is literally nothing wrong with Glonks aside from them being run by cucks, but that can be said about every gun company nowadays. I'm gonna wait for the Gen 6 26 to come out though.

Not saying the brigadier isn't okay in certain ways, I think it's fine with a pic rail dustcover or something, but otherwise it just feels bad.

>Chicago full auto
If you want this but don't care about a selector, a simple queue attached to the slide cover would cam the sear. You could 3D print a disposable one for a cheap thrill

You could also do something similar by accidentally bending your "connector" outward enough to oppose the sear reset and allow the striker forward with the slide [not recommended]

>>64730527
Yeah. I suspect that we'll get a 10 round magazine cap before too long, so I'd like to get a full size pistol with decent capacity before then. I know the standard advice is often to start with a G19, but I'm not particularly interested in a Glock because I'm not a huge fan of how they feel. The Beretta 92 and CZ-75 are just the platforms that appeal to me the most right now, mostly because I like old-fashioned metal frames. I might change my mind at a later point.
>>64730535
Optic mounts and rails aren't really a factor for me. If I was looking for a home defense gun, I would definitely want something that I could put a light and a red dot on, but my living situation (apartment with thin walls) makes using any firearm for home defense an unacceptable risk IMO.

Don't get me wrong I voted Trump 3x and I would do it again given no-choice choices we were given but you are fucking retarded. No idea about hellcats, but I just got a 365xl and planning to get a larger grip for it. Imo the trigger on 365 is rolling trash but in general it's a very convincing gun layout. Would recommend, if you just cannot stomach a G19.
It's also extremely mim, everything is mim, fcu housing is mim, sear is mim, striker is mim, all controls are mim. It's like they are in love with metal injection molding technology and that pistol is their canvas to mim all the things.

Alright I'll see what my options are. I already have a handheld flashlight but the lack of rail limits me to either milling the pistol or exclusively using the streamlight TLR-6. I ordered the streamlight to see if it is sufficient. Everyone talks shit on it because it is a tiny 100 lumen thing, but maybe its good enough for my uses. I won't be able to blind anyone but I'm more worried about being able to see what the intruder is doing after I have identified him with the handheld.
