My problem with it wasn't that it was too goofy, it was more that the protagonist isn't actually that much of a badass. He spends most of the film just repeatedly getting himself shot, beaten up, lit on fire, hanged, blown up, beaten up again, drowned, etc, and then he just walks it all off because apparently he's too stubborn to die. Like, that's great for him that he can survive everything, but it's not really badass to just let yourself get shit on constantly because you know it won't kill you so it doesn't matter. It felt more like a weird masochist fetish movie if anything. The point of these goofy violence movies is supposed to be to see what cool badass thing the protag does to get himself out of the dangerous situations he's in. But in this movie the guy doesn't even get himself out of the danger half the time. He just lets himself be put in a situation that would normally kill someone, and just walks away afterwards. That got boring pretty quickly.
