Are the marines losing their magic? Seems less and less appealing to join the marines compared to every other branch nowadays. Was it ever good?

i recall in afghanistan marines were constantly hitting IEDs on convoys because their retarded SOPs told them to drive as fast as possible to lower your chances of hitting them.
