Rectum oil is just mineral oil, it's ok but you're better off using any synthetic motor oil.

Clenzoil is my fav but Seal1 might be winning me over, Ballistol is also good Honorable mention goes to Mobil 1 grease for M1 style rifles and carbines

If I end up with something really being stuck then I've got some break free clp which seems to handle some baked on shit ballistol has trouble with but is probably way more cancer causing or some shit. In extreme cold I'll use slip2k which seems to do pretty well though dedicated lube is more trouble then just regular clp.If I'm going to store a gun for a long period (>6 months) I thoroughly grease it. Means more trouble to get it back to operation again but better that than rust I figure.

If the manual actually says something specific and the gun is still under warranty then I'd generally choose to follow that just in case. But almost no guns actually do that vs a generic "lube it once in awhile retard".
Buy gun oil by the gallon or you're getting scammed desu. And even then companies like Breakfree still demand >$1/oz for it. For reference: motor oil is like $0.20/oz for the highest end shit. Fuck em'. Radcolube CLP comes out to $0.70/oz. Same shit we use in the army. My go-to.Lucas Oil is $0.76/oz if bought by gallon. I have friends who like it. Shooter's Choice FP-10 CLP is $0.57/oz right now on amazon. No idea how well it works relative to the milspec stuff - they don't advertise it as being milspec but that doesn't mean it isn't as good. I don't think Remington sells Rem Oil in larger quantities. A bulk pack of multiple cans on Amazon still comes out to >$1/oz Ballistol is the same way. Only sold in smaller cans. Always costs >$1/oz. If all that is still too expensive I have literally used motor oil and it was fine.

You're supposed to use a little bit in the right places, not immerse the fucking thing every day. A single tiny bottle can last for fucking ages. It's the equivalent of spending like, fractions of a cent per round. It wouldn't matter if it's $5/oz or $0.10/oz it's still effectively nothing either way. If one was even the slightest bit better might as well.

But tons of people buy a gun and it sits around 11.99 months out of 12. Maybe some of the lube shit makes more sense then. That farm youtube did show there were differences in rust and such between oils over long periods. Kind of a frustrating thought though. Just fucking shoot more.Also I think suppressors are an exception. Except for 22lr I don't clean them almost ever, they only need it after like 4000-10000 rounds. Shit is pretty built up at that point though. Feels reasonable it'll need something strong to soak in for a bit. Maybe I should buy an ultrasonic instead though?
