anyone have a million bucks?https://www.controller.com/listing/for-sale/24850533/1959-mcdonnell-douglas-f4h-1f-turbine-military-aircraft
>>64754849That's just the purchase price. Now look into the maintenance costs just to keep it airworthy. Even if you never run the engines, shit times out. And parts and the expertise needed to keep her functional don't come cheap. You're easily looking at over $500,000 in annual costs, well over $1million with fuel and expendables. If you fly it regularly, expenses go well over several million per year. That isn't your mom's Volvo. That's a cold war relic from the United States, which had the petrodollar backing a bottomless well of obscene spending.
>>64754849That has been for sale since the beginning of the pandemic.
>>64754849Can you legally buy this and throw rocks at poor people from 10k feet altitude at mach 2 ? Asking for a friend
>>64755055going supersonic over land is illegal
>>64754895>Now look into the maintenance costs just to keep it airworthyNigga I'm not gonna fly it. I'm just going to park it on my garden to look at it every morning.
>>64755146then just fly it over the great lakes or the sea duh
>>64755197Having to jerk off before breakfast every day sounds annoying.
>>64755197That's probably the type of buyer the seller has in mind. Some rich fuck who's gonna put it in his personal collection. The fact that it's still on the market, means that there are better deals to be had for that sort of use case.
>>64754849It's a really old, and quite rare one tooF4H-1 is the old designation system the Navy had.Under the later tri-service designation system the F4H-1F fighter would become known as F-4A, and the multi-role F4H-1 as F-4B.F-4B was far more numerous and became the basis of all other Navy and Marine Corps Phantom variants through to the F-4S, and early land-based variants up to the F-4E.
>>64755055No, dumping anything over a congested area is illegal.
>>64755197If that's all you want to do you can usually get a jet that's completely fucked beyond repair for a lot less money. It is still a genuine military aircraft, just one with all the internal components stripped out.
>>64755197then you should sell off the engines and many internals as they will just rot away oftherwise
>>64754895>>64754912>>64756006>Big ticket items remaining include 2x engine overhauls, 2x ejections seats, avionics, and final test flying. Estimate to finish is $1.0 - $1.25m.kek cheeky fuckers.you will be out 3-4million before your ass is in either seat holding short
>>64754912There's been an F-4 for sale since 2011.I'm not sure if this was the same one, but this listing is like $2M cheaper than the old one.>>64754895Airframe maintenance isn't as bad as you think, but generally engine overhauls, insurance, and fuel will be the highest expenditures in the long run (excluding major events such as bird strikes or maintenance errors leading to damage)I just looked at the listing and the owner estimates $1M-$1.25M for 2x overhauls, 2x ejection seats, and avionics. That's insane to me that those engines can be overhauled at that price. I've had basic bitch PT6-67B overhauls that have costed more. Some overhauls were quoted as BER, and I had to look at buying another.I've done a few cost per flight hour reports in my professional career, the big factor is how many hours you plan on flying. If you fly 50-70 hours a year, all costs plummet compared to flying 300+ hours a year. Realistically, a owner would be flying this <60 hours/year unless they had some sort of business venture with the plane. It's a whole different story if you're using the plane to generate revenue.
