Why not mass produce again the m4 sherman, but a drone version of it.Remove the old cannon, add the same auto cannon the apache has.
Too based for this world. You would have to give it an automatic transmission and the ability to neutral steer though. The other problem is its size was intended for a crew, if it’s going to be unmanned then the size doesn’t need to be that large. The last is that all the tooling that was made to build them back in the day are all gone so it’s easier and cheaper to build a fresh design than to bring these back sadly
>>64756511Because the Sherman was cheap in WWII because it was optimized for the state of US WWII era industry and because if you’re making a drone tank, many of the design parameters of the Sherman make no sense. Reengineering the Sherman to function as a drone would be such a big change you might as well start from a clean sheet in order to better work with the realities of the modern manufacturing environment.
>>64756511Why would you make a drone sherman and not a custom drone tank that is designed to be uncrewed? You save on volume and can armor only key components, or nothing at all.
>>64756626>Why would you make a drone shermanSherman autism.WW2 autism.
>>64756626You can make drones that are human controlled.Get criminals that are on the death row. Put a collar bomb on them.Make them drive the tank as requested, if they don't do as they are requested. the remote commander can push a button that sends a remote shock. The turret and weapons is remote controlled by joystick by someone else.Seems easy to be made right now.
>>64756511Needs XM913 50mm chain gun instead of that little M230 of the Apache. Pic rel. M230 in the back, 50mm in front.
>>64756511a drone tommy cooker would be lethal to the electronics in actual battle - it's a no go
It would cost tens of millions of dollars to make today
>>64756511Ripsaw M5?
>>64756511At this point the Bradley does everything the Sherman does and more.
>>64756582>The last is that all the tooling that was made to build them back in the day are all gone so it’s easier and cheaper to build a fresh design than to bring these back sadlyActually we just gave it to Canada who still use it to make tractors.
>>64757130A myth as far as I can tell. Three Canadian companies made ag or forestry tractors based on the Sherman driveline and suspension, but they all appear to have used surplus parts instead of making new Sherman hulls.
>>64756511>we can have mini shermans that go 60+mph and are fully droned with AA guns or cannons, and can make them self-detonate if they run out of ammo or get close to the enemy
