Recently there has been a trend of Shaheds armed with various anti-aircraft missiles, both MANPADS and R-60s. Is there any real merit to this? I can assume that these are presumably supposed to cooperate with the drones we've seen carrying rear-facing cameras, with the missile Shadhed trailing the spotting one, but this seems like a lot of investment to put into a rather dubious shootdown chance.
>Option A: retarded drone that looks like a UA magura>Option B: being in the next meatwaveIt's a no brainier. That aside, intercepting those slow-ass drones always came with some risk, small but not nil.
The idea is probably that you would be a lot more hesitant to intercept with expensive assets, E.G. F-16 or attack helicopters. It could potentially have an outsized impact if a few sprinkled into a larger attack prevented or delayed aerial intercepts. We'll see how it plays out
imagine if they had good HARM ordnance to put in those, could be an interesting SEAD asset
>>64760564the drone Iran copied to produce these was a HARM, they just didn't have the capability to copy that so cruise missile it was
I feel like shasneeds lack the sensors to really use such weapons and putting the sensors on would kinda defeat the point of the shasneeds. I guess it's another way to milk government contracts or busywork to avoid getting cubed.
>>64760523It's there for deterrence not effectiveness. There's no sensor to slew the seeker on the R-60 and the Iglas don't have an interface for that AFAIK. It's there to make the interceptors nervous.
>>64760669There're variants with normal/thermal camera, they aren't really common but those drones have a lot of "random" crap free riding. They seem to be simple enough that ukies did something similar 2 years ago.
>>64760691>They seemThe missile seem*
>>647605231965, here we come!
>>64760691The ukies did that with R-60s on a drone boat, with space and power for a good thermal camera and gimbal, and were remotely operating the thing, allowing for manual target identification. They used these in a look-up engagement against low flying, slow helicopters at short range, and to only modest success.
>>64760739Part of the spam of drones (mostly gerberas) includes relay routers (not the same as the used for the lancets), even the first shaheds (131 and some) had (low speed) iridium antenna. Ukies got good very quickly, but the spam of drones is problematic.
I've asked copilot about comparison of russian air force of 2023 and 2025 a few days ago and it hallucinated those air launched shadeds and when pressed couldn't find any evidence of thoseit seems silly to me to spend fuel and plane hours to launch shitty low yield projectiles like that
>>64760775why are you using ai in any capacity
>>64760785AI is decent for being a greedy ERP'er who basically wants to generate personalized page by page smut
>>64760722The alternate universe where the US didn't slash its drone projects as part of the post-Vietnam cutbacks would be an interesting one.
>add 100lb missile to a 440lb drone>reduced range, reduced speed>missile only adds 3kg warhead to the drone's 50kg+ warheadNever interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.
>>64760523>Is there any real merit to this? The main goal of the attached R-60s is to opportunistically hunt Ukrainian jets and helicopters.
>>64760785it's great at research if you force it to search current data
>>64760934>the equivalent of strapping a handgun to a roomba and pushing it out the door >you lose the missile no matter whatThat cannot be a good cost:benefit
>>64760916Didn't the ukies down a heli with a USV armed with a AA missile? It's kind of a similar idea, adds some complication to the task of shooting them down.
>>64760968>Didn't the ukies down a heli with a USV armed with a AA missile?not that I know of. I know they used AA missiles from a drone boat in anger, but iirc results were poor and I haven't seen any hits.
>>64760948Did >>64760775 not just say that it hallucinated an air launched Shasneed? Gen AI is for nitwits.
>>64761024if you're literally a retard (like you) then yesif you're capable of actually comprehending what model returns and question it about that then it's a valuable tool
>>64760968>Didn't the ukies down a heli with a USV armed with a AA missile? At least half a dozen of them, yeah. And potentially one or two planes. There was a ton of whining in Telegram channels since some of the shot down pilots weren't recovered because nobody bothered to send a recovery crew in a timely manner.Ruslims had to create special rules where helicopters should approach the USVs from the back as to not get shot down kek.
