Top is a bronze 1/2x28 G19 barrel from L2D Combat, it works, everything is fine. Bot is a factory barrel that came with a factory used stock G17 gen 4 from Austria, but I can't fit any 13,5x1LH or 1/2x28 thread protector. Thread crown is slightly damaged ; it doesn't seem so bad and you have to illuminate it and zoom a lot so you can notice. What do you think ? I can't really buy another barrel in my country. Many thanks /k/ommando, I'd like to use a can at some point.
>>64763453>Measure external diameter with vernier caliper (Every man should have several)>Measure thread pitch with thread gauge (Every man should have at least one)>???????????
>>64763476>vernier caliper (Every man should have several)look, I like verniers as much as anyone else, but I'm not sliding a fucking foot long vernier and looking at the little lines like I'm blowing on a flute6" dial caliper, 8" if I'm delusional, that's it.
>>64763476>autistic generalizationI'm not criticizing you tho
>>64763510>I'm not sliding a fucking foot long vernier and looking at the little lines like I'm blowing on a fluteFret not my intellectually disabled friend, there are digital versions for retards too!>>64763513I find your lack of 'tism repulsive, it's atypical for users of this website.Bestir yourself to correct this shortcoming at the earliest convenience. Systematically jacking off to raunchy photos of steam locomotives or diagrams of subway networks might help.
>>64763453Weird coincidence, I measure threads a lot for work... but I don't know what you're asking here?28 UN is a fair bit smaller than 1mm (at least for measuring/calibrating), not surprising it won't fit.
Come on guys, your best guess maybe ? I don't have said tools, I'll buy if I can find some. But with your expert eyes, please ? Maybe i'm delusional and it's not possible to see it with a naked eye.
>>64763541I'm asking if bot (black one, from a G17.4) is also a 1/2x28, or a 13,5x1, or anything else ? Compared to bronze one which is a 1/2x28 for sure.
>>64763528>there are digital versionsDigital means it's not a vernier. The entire advantage of a vernier style caliper is that it has two parts - a slide, and a rule. I don't even like the stopper on top because turning it can throw off the reading. By having only two solid parts, so long as the metal itself doesn't warp (which shouldn't happen with properly hardened faces and parts in general), the vernier simply feels better and is more repeatable - the only limit is in how accurately you can read it.Digital reads from a gear, similar to dial calipers. By having resistance from the gears as well as being rotation based, you always have slightly less repeatability.>b-but modern parts are accurate enough for these calipers to b-DON'T CARE, less parts = feels better, the resistance feels the same across practically the entire caliper without it feeling slightly different depending on gear position (this is without getting into debris getting into the gear rail and other issues)But when the fuck would I need that kind of reliability over a dial caliper in everyday usage? For that matter, if I needed that kind of dependability, why wouldn't I just use a micrometer?
>>64763541>>64763558I'm also wondering if the slight burr on the crown (the end of the threading, closest part next to the muzzle) could be the thing that prevents me from setting a basic thread protector.
>>6476345314x1 LH youre welcome
>>64763592Yep. It's slightly finer pitch than ½"x28, and it's clearly a bit fatter in diameter. 14x1mm LeftHand is one of the threads Glock put on their factory barrels. It's the same muzzle thread used on the vast majority of AKs.
>>647634535/8x24 is an extremely common threading for 30cal or lower over here at least.
>>64763580As soon as you figure out size and pitch get a self centering thread chaser die and clean it up. It's not a bad tool to have for any barrel with threads.
>>64763592>>64763604>top barrel is a 1/2 x 28 RH>bottom barrel cleary has RH threads as evidenced by the fact they point the same way as the top barrel>It's a LH thread!I find that unlikely. Come on guys, a little comprehension of the photo OP posted.
>>64763567>Digital reads from a gearNo it doesn't, it's a linear encoder. Also cool your autism you absolute sperg.>>64763580>>64763558Unfortunately I can't see from the picture, does look like it could be slightly bigger - a 1mm, maybe 24tpi at a push. You can actually check the major with even something as inaccurate as a calliper, to get a good idea unless it's an unusual designation/However you can deburr the crown of the thread with a coarse stone and it'll be fine as long as you make it smooth enough, unless you're completely cack-handed or removing visibly large amounts of metal
>>64763656>oooooh you should own multiple verniers in different lengths and look like a fagget>whoa cool it with the autismFuck you nigger
>>64763642Wrong
I have a hard time understanding my own stuff : one of my 1/2x28 protector can't pass the first pitch, it's just blocked. My other 1/2x28 can go like 1/3 of the whole threading and then stops there. My two 13,5x1LH are not twisting at all in the pitches, they just go freely and "float" around the threading, barely catching pitches here and there. Like their diameter is too large.
>>647637631mm is 26tpi (doesn't really exist for UN, 26 whitworth however), so it's more likely 28, but I maybe needs cleaning up/working out
>>64763763Try an M13x1 RH. If the 13.5 LH are too big and the 1/2x28 want to thread on but bind it might be some stupid outlier like that. If the Glock barrel was LH threaded the SAE wouldn't even try to thread on.
>>64763453>have threads of known diameter and pitch>have threads of unknown diameter and pitch>not putting the two togetherAnon, just see if the threads fit into each other.
