>>64767822>Will they dominate or are they overhypedOverhyped only because the few who talk about such systems drum them up as complete gamechangers, the reality is they are situational, with the potential to assist soldiers in most/all traditional situations, but also rarely able to operate alone, but Ukraine has shown some areas of the frontline only need one of these things to change fortunes. >What are their advantages and drawbacks?They are a gun with endurance only limited by battery/fuel capacity, and they cut out the potentially dead weight human part (albeit they still need some dude to control them), Otherwise, they will need to return to a safe zone for service, refueling, and reloading of weaponry, it allows soldiers to not need to poke their heads out nearly as much to take shots at an enemy, and if you aren't getting zerged, it can help prevent infiltration and etc altogether due to it being essentially a camera with a gun that can roll around and shoot people.

>>64767872I think the smaller ground robots will work better for stuff like demining, recon and surveillance, medivac, resupplies, rather than using them as dedicated weapons platforms. They're a tool situationally useful on the defense and for overwatch. Air drones OTOH are a big deal. FPV carriers/dispensers, fiber optic NLOS defenses, spotters for artillery, everything.

Compare with a hypothetical midfuture firstworld army:-a halo of scouting drones and FPVs-surrounding the local AA units, which are also IFVs, and carrying the infantry-spotting for the deep strike artillery-trailed by traditional logistics with onboard AA, every RWS is also an anti-drone gun linked into the BMSIn this scenario logistics is going to be split between extra supply on the IFVs, no need for the same forward supply since artillery is moved back a few hudnred km, and 'conventional' quick resupply which is logistics trucks plus heavy-lift aerial drones for delivery.
